Direct light is boring. A broad range of weather phenomena is served by blue hour. In this video I went out for photographing the pink stripe in blue hour and I give tips about how to predict blue hour and pink stripe.

Thanks for these wonderful photos. I live on the East Coast here in NZ and I often get the pink/blue hour in my landscape photos and sometimes it is very strong.

Hi @donnakeeley4531, thank you for your kind words, my friend 😊 And great to hear that you have often the possibility for shooting blue hour! When there is a big, clean gap, the colours get indeed much more saturated than I showed in the video. It's definitely a fantastic weather phenomenon and I think I should also do it a bit more often. It's just: here in the mountains it is quite seldom that we get that big gaps 🙂 Nice greetings, Christian

Beautiful shots Christian and that headlamp you own must melt snow too! It’s awesome. I was craving to be where you were in this video. 37 degrees here in my part of the world today 🙄 Give me the snow anyday. You planned that shoot well. Great work buddy 👍🙏

Hi Adrian, thank you so much, buddy! I think you would like that place. It's a national park here in Austria, which is also rich on wildlife. I often saw birds of prey there already. But you know, I just have eyes for landscapes, haha 😆 Have a great weekend, Christian

Great video! For a while I've been wanting to shoot a photo of moonrise or moonset behind a castle not far from where I live but I haven't found the right conditions for it yet. I now have an idea of how to find out if conditions are right, and probably Photos can help me! And actually in hindsight this morning, with a nearly full moon still, might have been a good and clear morning for it but it was not on my mind until watching this video and then it was too late. Still this will help me plan and prepare for another opportunity!

Hi Tim, photographing a castle in blue hour sounds after a fantastic idea. I could imagine to get subtle light on the castle to give it a mystery touch or to use a pink or orange stripe in the background to bring some colour in. But there are a lot of other weather phenomena, which could also support the mood of a castle. I just say rainbows, April weather, Aurora, milky way, meteor showers, gappy low level clouds, etc. Thanks a lot for watching, my friend and enjoy your castle shooting 😉 Christian

@@christian.irmler As you say, many kinds of weather can support this castle and indeed I already have many shots of it! Sunrise, silhouetted against the rising sun, sunset, star trails over the castle, etc... But silhouetted against a rising or setting moon is still on my list! 😃

'Pink stripe', do you mean the belt of Venus?

Hi Nick, yes, absolutely right. It is also known as "Belt of Venus". But your wording now sounds like it would primarily be called "Belt of Venus" in English? In my native language (German) we know it as "pink stripe" and "belt of venus" (1 by 1 translated), but "pink stripe" is the primary term here in Austria, which is why I was talking about "pink stripe" as well.
