I found you at the right time, and you are really inspiring me. I rescued a hawthorn at the back of a nursery, the top half was dead, and it had obviously been there some years and was forgotten. I found a great nebari, thick trunk and I think potential. I gave it the major chop this summer but otherwise left it growing in a large bucket and got its health back. I look forward to seeing how it reacts in the Spring.

This series was full of great info and trees. Awesome and inspirational work how you developed all of the branch structure on some of those trees from scratch, definitely a journey!

Really enjoyed coming back to this video again I’ve acquired a large burning bush for my collection and the branches are too brittle to add movement after they’ve lignified completely so I’ll definitely be using these techniques. Great video thanks for sharing

the journey is the enjoyment because the tree will still be going long after we're gone and a bonsai is never finished til it dies and then it might be incorporated into a Tanuki....hahahaha.....wish i was a tree :D

This is an amazing hawthorn but I must say I think the yamadori shrub takes away from the whole piece. Still great work

Hi Tony, I am inspired by your work, videos and blog to dig some Hawthorn this year. I live in Victoria, Australia and we're having a fairly mild winter ( it's around 9 degrees C during the day at the moment). You say to collect just as the 'pinpricks of red' buds start to swell. The Hawthorns in my garden have had tiny red buds pretty much all winter. How do I know exactly when to dig? Do I study the buds daily and wait until I see them starting to grow and then collect? I'm worried that as a beginner I might get the timing wrong and reduce the chances of success. I have pots, substrate and black bags all on standby, ready to go. Thank you.

Great videos but how do you blend old wood to new wood without showing a huge cut scar? Hawthorns are majestical!

Great video. All of my collected hawthorns have been struck by what appears to be white powdery mildew plus some browning and holes forming in the leaves. Any suggestions on what’s going wrong?

Hi Ashley, too much water may be the issue. Let the trees dry out a bit

I topped a nice tree I found that had fallen over with a huge oak. It has one small branch. Can I encourage more branch growth?

@@TonyTickle Would they only grow at the cut or all over the trunk? Another question. I found it on the edge of a pond so i have used the same silty soil. I have just filled a large plastic pot with it. Should I have done anything specific with the potting medium?
