They've been ring barked/girdled to kill the trees. This can be done for a number of reasons. They may be an invasive or unwanted species of tree. Or it might be to offer a more diverse range of habitat for bird species in a nature reserve (I.E. dead wood for woodpeckers to nest in). It looks to have done carefully with a chainsaw by someone who knows what they're doing.

Yes it’s a forestry technique called ring-barking, which kills the tree by creating a break in the flow of water and nutrients in the living part of the trunk. It’s done to create dead standing wood which is great for wildlife as it decays more slowly than wood on the ground and provides habitat for birds like woodpeckers and bats etc

Always great to see the band back together. And JVD hugging a tree T minus 2 into the vid was special. Nature comes to the northern Prince, not the other way around. What was going on with some of those trees around base camp? Looked like some huge beaver (oo-err) had been going at them. Gan canny bro

Fab video. I loved the time-lapse of the tree branches, stars, changing light & flickering from the fire. You had also chosen the perfect music to go with it. Sending out good messages of leave no trace & picking up some litter. A joyous film to watch as always.

Calm down. We would never do that. The people who manage the wood do it sometimes so help control the trees. You think we took a chainsaw all the way into the woods to ringbark a load of trees for content?? 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hazey. If you go to the vineyard in France you can buy a bottle that is not for sale outside Chateauneuf. It is bright crimson and comes in an original conked bottle. Best wine we ever tasted. Expensive but incredible. Yummy yummy
