I wish people would stop saying they failed. You didnt fail, circumstances occurred that made you feel it was not the right time. It happens mate. By keep telling ourselves we failed only feeds into that negative part of the brain that prevents us from taking on other tasks, as well as making us feel like shit. You took a decision and you stuck to it, ended up seeing dolphins swimming wild and made plans for another day. Thats a BIG win in my books. Hapoy hiking!

Thanks for sharing. To get your Piss TSD into context, I was sorting out my brother's drainage in his place in Portugal - he said to bash the pipe join, so I did, and the pipe join released and he got sprayed with the backed up contents of the cess pit - I got a bit of a shower after I fell backwards off the ladder into the stream but he got the worst of it. It was an absolute horror show.

The pee that's covered your van can be neutralised by lavender water. You can order it from Boots. It has to be lavender water. Put lavender into a spray bottle and cover everywhere, leave to dry it will get rid of the smell.

You will get back and get it done. My first attempt last year was horrific due to the weather and decided to bail. However got back on it it last week and completed at last. Would recommend doing it South to North as feel the views and scenery is better when walked in reverse.

Fabric conditioner bottle with a little bit left in the bottom to piss in. Wide neck to get the big fella in, sturdy handle and the conditioner makes it smell nice. 👌🏻

I've watched this one a couple of times now, and I would think just being perched on that clifftop, overlooking the dolphins & seals, should be enough to sort anyone's head out. If it makes you feel any better, I have knocked over and emptied my nightime bottle in my tent. It made for a much less pleasant weekend.

@@iwilson227 the black dog is our mental health problems, Paul is exactly like myself, mental health champion, but the dog is always on our shoulder, we just know how to stop it from coming in, or do our best to fight it off. Paul is doing an amazing job in explaining what he goes through, I know he has helped a lot of people, maybe even saved some lives. I very much respect his honesty and he has my admiration. All the above was simplified into my 1 line post above and Paul got it. Hope you are well @iwilson227, we are lucky to have this channel.

As they say: Life is what you make of it. We have all had trips not go as planned. You can feel defeated OR you can make the best of it. Beautiful camping spot! I have seen dolphins in the wild one time and it was amazing.

Scotland was beautiful last week too man it's a shame you gnarled up your adventure, I did the west highland way and found a Paul Messner at the finish line. I love that tent and pump too man it was my first time out with both of them and I was determined to not be a pump guy but that wee beasty lasted me 6 days

I've had motorcycle trips like that, where anything that could go wrong, did. But in the end there's always something that comes out of it. Maybe because you have to work harder to get there, makes it more enjoyable. If it helps, your video was exactly what I needed today. I am ( mostly) a landscape painter, and Skye is so perfect for what I love to do. The colors and shapes of those rocks are what I see in my head when I start a painting. I will get there one day. Thanks mate.

Hazey, get a small lenght of 2/3mm guyline, when you get your kettle pot out put the arms together and wrap it around the handles, weighs nothing and never get burnt fingers again, wont melt unless you are stupid with the flame (as in not direct flame when it will burn)- unwraps when you need to get on the move again - also even the cheap plastic gas caninster stands are a huge bonus for that type of setup for stability and safety. Both weigh zero and a godsend when remote when a burn can be a dangerous injury. Old mountaineering tips for the MSR titan and many burnt fingers!

I know what you mean about putting a positive spin on things. Just completed a 100 mile walk from Aviemore to Aberdeen yesterday. On day 2 (after a glorious hot morning) I was hit with a freak rain storm which soaked me, the dogs and my kit. I pitched the tent and got myself out of it for the eve and woke to a beautiful dry morning. I could have moped about everything being wet but I got on with it in the hope the better weather would dry everything out. Even used the trick with the sandwich bags in the boots 😂.

You should send your bust sleeping bag to either Scottish Mountain Gear or Lancashire Sports Repair. I have used both and can vouch for both: either would be able to repair and refill your bag. They are very reasonably priced as well.

I can vouch for that pal LSR is just round the corner from me I've always taken any gear that needed repairing there and I worked there for a couple of weeks during covid not only are they a totally awesome family run firm they are such a friendly bunch as well from the sewers to the boot repair lads they are like magicians my mind was blown with what they can do with any kind of repair from boots tents walking and hiking gear in general and even motorbike gear repairs!!!honestly a seriously top firm run by top people 😀👍

I don't usually enjoy laughing at someone else's expense but I failed miserably at the piss bottle incident Hazy, nearly had to call a doctor to stop me laughing as you were describing your vanly possessions being covered in 'Long Distance Drivers Lucozade' I feel for ya mate as that van is gonna take some cleaning - you could always horse a pint of milk everywhere to cover up the piss smell 🤣

Ah Haze, what a mare. But so pleased to see you got to see dolphin and grey seal with that epic pitch site. I also creased at “… I even bought new socks” 😂 Priceless. Sad stat: it’s estimated there are fewer grey seals than African elephants😢 And as @whatsnottohike says you didn’t fail you just adapted to a new set of circumstances. My therapist tells me that when I say “I failed/I’m rubbish at…” the sh*tty committee in my head win “…see told you so, we were right”. Mindset is everything and you win every time you adapt. 😊

What a beautiful spot. Beautiful doesn't cover it. I camped at a wee beach on the West of Ireland once, and there was this low mist over a millpond sea - a pod of dolphins just softly porpoised parallel to the beach, maybe 15 or 20 metres from me. Still one of my most magical memories. Sorry mate, but I laughed pretty hard at your 5 litres of piss story. And is it Ace Ventura that rides on two dolphins or is that a fake memory? You're amazing Haze, much love!

Sorry the trip didn't go to plan, but thanks for the intro to Skye. I'm travelling up in September from the south coast on my motorcycle. As you say, roughly 14 hours in the saddle over 2 days. Really looking forward to the trip. Hope you get to walk the trail this year.
