Host Kara Swisher unpacks the Succession series finale, “With Open Eyes,” in a two-part supersized podcast.. In part one, Kara talks with Alexander Skarsgård about why his tech billionaire character, Lukas Matsson, just can’t let Waystar Royco go. Then Kara goes deep with Jeremy Strong to discuss the tragic end of Kendall and what his character really wanted all along. Part two, coming later this week, features an extended conversation with director and executive producer Mark Mylod.

Me too, but HBO has a problem writing endings of shows....all of them from Game of Thrones to Trueblood to Succession. Horrible ending just now. Why even do the annointing scene because it lost ALL its power by doing that ending. If ya going to devastate Kendal character why not have him jumping off the roof of the building during the signing and then see the look on Roman and Shiv face when they realize they killed their brother.

Jeremy of course wasn’t on in season 4 either, at least not season 2-3 on. The early episodes Jeremy was actually looking bad and unconvincing, particularly the first episode of the season. His character came alive after election night and he was the 2nd best actor on the screen from episodes 8-10. Of course Sarah Snook is my personal choice for best actor of the season. It sure was an ending to think of a lot. I have to see it again. And again. There's so much in it. These adult children had two parents who didn't love them, and are incapable of loving anyone. It was a tragic ending. Roman is immature and maybe he will heal and grow. Shiv is vindictive and nowhere as smart as she thought. Kendall was smart and the only possible one who could have taken the top spot. I felt for sure he would after he took control at Logan's funeral. So Ken is dead inside. Kendall doesn't have the stomach to commit suicide. That was the point of Rome's nugget of truth. The three of them were cosplaying business people. Tom survived because he's the real deal and understands the nature of his position. Same with Karl, Gerri, and Frank.

But it will bother Shiv that Tom has more power and she's just his wife. They deserve each other. And I couldn't believe it when Lukas interviewed Tom and said he wanted to f**k his wife, and Tom just sits and takes it. He'll take anything to get what he wants. And I was glad to see Greg hit Tom back. The worst for me was seeing Tom in charge of Waystar, even as a puppet.

Yes, they were all good, but Shiv speaks volumes using her eyes alone, she is multi-dimensional. Romulus (Kieran) is also able to move up and down and into many dimensions. I've heard them even talking about responding to Sarah, and also when she is on the phone with Tom who is sharing blows about her father dying, and even her movements, hand gestures and she has an Australian accent that we never even get a hint of!

Connor makes it out, Rome is scarred for life but with some hope, Kendall will probably commit suicide (poor Ken) and Shiv just became who she hated the most, her mom, the woman who has no power but married the king. Kendall was my favourite too, and that’s Jeremy Strong’s amazing work. I was always rooting for him, hoping, and a few times it seemed almost possible he would make it - and then it is shattering to watch when he can’t do it and he fails, and loses everything. His Dad did love him and protected him, and now through Colin was still watching out for him. Brilliant show in all respects. So many amazing performances, Matthew M, Sarah S, Kieran Culkin, every one of them. A modern masterpiece, with the perfect, tragic ending that completed the arc of the story of each of the siblings, and Tom.

What was tragic about it? Ruch people not getting what they want? Is that a tragedy? They still rich AF, they hold shares, they young, alive. It's drams, yeah, and it's a cathartic finale, but tragic? I felt the finale, as great as it was, it dropped the ball on showing what was evident in the premier episode, and that is how corrupt, small and pathetic these people are. It made us rooting for then instead and feel sorry when they don't get it.

NOOO ITS OVER😭😭😭 In all seriousness, a true masterpiece on all levels. This is what a masterclass in writing and storytelling looks like from every fundamental aspect of the show. I am super satisfied with this finale. It was simply incredible how everything ended. I had a feeling it would end the way it ended, but I did not in the slightest expect it to go down that way. My boy Tom was the only one who could have possibly been victorious out of that circle of characters (siblings and family members). Sure I have no doubt Jesse and his team could have gone the route of Kendall coming out on top, and it would have had it's own poetic sense to it calling back to the very beginning, but there would be one thing missing... the element of tragedy. At it's core this show is a Shakespearean tragedy, and the way they ended it completely encapsulates that. I'll miss this show so much, but they went out on top, and that's all we can ask for. 👏👏👏👏 Sensational!!!
