The hug between Bertha and George melted my heart especially when he replied, yes, you did. He wanted Bertha to know that he felt totally disconnected from her, he wasn't sure if she going to cut him out forever. He has missed her support while he's gearing up for a fight with the union.

I loved that scene and the scene where she asked who is covering her back and he said she mattered most to him more than anyone even though her last remark about honesty was a jab at him.

@@Neddoest Yes. Marian's father squandered (or at least did not invest wisely) the family money. So, Agnes' late husband's money was supporting the household. I hope that the reverend is not after what he thinks is Ada's money (or has a wife, etc.)

@@summer.days1105 indeed he's sketchy. however, my husband asked me to marry him after more than 3 dates and about a month since we met... but he had and has more money so he wasn't after anything I have as a poor artist XD given Agnes' track record think it's a safe bet that if Agnes doesn't like someone they need investigating.

Ada doesn’t have anything of note. Her lifestyle (food, housing, clothing, servants bill, transport) is all paid for by Agnes via her inheritance from her late husband. Forte is a pastor at an elite church. He most likely has nice housing, servants, and food covered by his job. He probably does not have a ton of cash but a lot of his expenses would be covered by his work. So it would be a secure position for himself and Ada and a minor but niche part of high society. Not fancy or a leading role like Agnes, Bertha, or Mrs. Astor, but respectable nonetheless. I say good for Ada, I don’t think he’s an operator. But I’m sure Agnes will intervene somehow so it won’t be smooth sailing.

😟 part of me feels sorry for Agnes. but she is wrong to try and hold her sister as a lifelong companion just because she is a widow and lonely. 😦 and I cannot believe Turner didn't tell her husband she was a maid. Especially when she worked in the same circles she now socializes. That's a dangerous game

THAT IS EXACTLY HOW MRS. BLANE HAS BEEN SPEAKING OF HER LATE HUSBAND. She clearly made it evident to all who wanted to listen that she was free via her husband's death. Please, you are not looking broader at "double-standard". The older women having her fun will someday look like Larry's mother or grandmother should they take their affair to a marriage. This maybe cruel, but it's a reality, and Mrs. Blane, the woman who said she has always had her cake and eaten it too should know this. She needs to enjoy her affair with her young more virile man and realize it for what it is - an affair! Nothing wrong with that. However, the social consequence for the time in which they live will be heavy and heaviest for Mrs. Blane if it becomes public - and she knows that. Think Mrs. Chamberlain. By the way, Lillie Langtry's only child, a daughter, was believed to be the child of King Edward VII - the former Prince of Wales - her lover.
@here_we_go_again2571
@here_we_go_again2571 8 ай бұрын
@deb53 Mrs. Blane certainly was a cougar! Bertha handled her well. Slightly off-topic: One of Edward vii's other mistresses, Alice Keppel, (Queen Camillia's great grandmother) is believed to have had both of her children (Violet and Sonia) with men other than her husband. [Keppel, essentially pimped her out] It is believed that her younger daughter, Sonia Keppel Cubitt, was the child of Edward vii. If that is true, that would make Camilla and King Charles iii (the 3rd) cousins! [Maybe that is *one* of the reasons why the BRF did not want him to be with Camilla]
@deb53

The unvarnished facts. The old cougar (Mrs. Blane) is enjoying herself too much to let him go. However, I think she also wants a social life full of fun and activity. It will come down to Larry or a social life full of fun and activity.@@ThatsJustMyBabyDaddy

It seems apparent that the George Russell character is largely patterned on Henry Clay Frick (Pittsburgh steel robber baron partner of Andrew Carnegie). They are telegraphing that the show may shadow the instance when Frick using a hired mob of Pinkerton “detectives” to attack striking unionized mill workers at the Homestead Works Steel Mill (a few miles up the Monongahela River from downtown Pittsburgh). Frick also was famously shot and still insisted on completing his workday.

Bertha has already "soiled" herself and other socialtes by accepting a former maid in her drawing room, as if she didn't know who she was. If everyone found out about Bertha's deception, it would hit her reputation. So it's too late to tell the truth. And Turner is the wife of an important knickerbocker, with a box at the Academy (until recently), i.e. half a step above Bertha.

5:20 Cost 20 mil per episode of guilded age, GOT was ~10 mil per ep, The long Night unaired pilot ep was 30 mil. A low budget hollywood film is 90 mil today. 40 mil is chiken feed not "insane amount of money. " why are the podcasters saying 40 mil is an imaginable sum of money for a building? A luxury building like the opera is easily 100 mil today. Bezos is worth 167.8 bilion with a B, dollars. A bilion is 1000 milions...that's huge. The USA budget is in trilions... that's another power to the three. Rest of us are just really poor XD
