30:40 Dashiell isn't great. Like Agnes he has no regard for the less fortunate and no respect for Marian's work or its importance to her. He actually said to her, "It's not like you're a _real_ teacher" when she politely declined and explained why she'd miss his party. Plus, he expects her to step into the role of motherhood without having any idea if that's something she wants for herself because they've never discussed it. He has assumed she'd want to marry him, leave her job and mother his child because that's what women of that era were expected to want and do. Worse, he manipulated her into a position where she almost couldn't say no without causing herself a great deal of public embarrassment and possibly even social scorn. It's so obvious he isn't right for her. I was hoping she'd say no anyway.

that scene definitely was a red flag that he's all wrong for her. I can't believe she caved to pressure and accepted the engagement. Proposing in public is so manipulative. She's definitely gotta dump him. Agnes will not be amused.

@@hannahpatwell5435 Larry is such an honorable sweetheart. I actually laughed when he rather naively spoke of his intention to marry Mrs. Blane, as if Bertha would allow that. She's clearly determined he marry a young heiress. Think she's planning to pair her daughter and the Duke too?
@hannahpatwell5435

@@IndomitableAde oh she definitely is, with who she's based off of, that is Gladys future. And we all know that Bertha would tell Marion that she isn't good enough for her son if they got together. But see here's the thing, unlike Mrs blane, Marion wouldn't take that lying down. She would politely tell Bertha to stuff it. And we know that Agnes would initially pitch the biggest fit, and Larry would have to work on Agnes all season but he would wait and accomplish it for her blessing something that Tom Raikes could not do. I mean in the first season, Agnes even admits that she likes Larry and that the only thing wrong with him is the fact that he's Bertha's son. She seriously tried to find something wrong with him and couldn't.

After watching this episode I get why nobody is surprised by Armstrong's behaviour. Initially I thought are the other servants really blind to how awful she is to Ms Scott? It turns out that Armstrong is awful to everyone so that's why nobody is surprised or shocked by her constant vile behaviour no matter who is on the receiving end.

I think George Russell is a good person at his core. It has been hinted that he came from humble beginnings & I think he sees his father in Henderson & maybe a little of himself in Henderson's son , as well as the way his own life might have gone if circumstances had been different. I hope that since he's glimpsed more of the human side of his workers, he will be willing to listen to them & make some positive changes like implementing a school & making working conditions safer. I hope his story echoes that of Carnegie who, once he returned to the US & learned details of the Homestead massacre, was horrified at the bloodshed & was a changed man after. It was after this event that he became more committed to philanthropic acts & seemed to be truly repentant of his earlier attitude.

I just ached for Marion and Ada this episode. Marion likes Larry and Larry likes Marion, so why is that not happening? She's not into Dashiel. How infuriating for him to put her in that situation having never even mentioned marriage to her. And Agnes egging it on. Marion has to find a way to get out of it. Maybe Larry will step up now and tell her how he feels. And poor Ada. Married two seconds and the man is probably dying. Credit to Agnes for not doing a jig, but instead going to her aid to help. At least Ada will have experienced happiness in her life and have perhaps a small inheritance of her own.

I was disappointed with the Peggy development of getting feelings for Mr. Fortune and wish the show would introduce an unmarried reporter or businessman for her love life. @@keshiamccray Oscar doesn't 'deserve' it. He's in a difficult position. He needs to hide his sexuality and he needs an heir as his mother keeps pressuring him to fulfill. I genuinely believe he liked both Gladys and Maud, and would have treated them well and with respect, even if he can't love them like a straight man could. I feel sorry for him, and he's shown a much softer side this season. But if he is ruined financially, maybe he won't care as much about his social standing, and he can run off with John Adams

I really like The Gilded Age....but I feel this season things are moving way too fast like they're not getting a 3rd season! I like for some plot points to take a few episodes to unfold; like that patent thingy....he should not have received a reply in the same episode he applied for it...should have waited for at least 1 more episode 🤷‍♂ The cancer diagnosis is also too early, it should have waited at least 1 more episode.....
