As a side note to anyone interested on Chinese diesel heater reliability. My son has been running an 8kw unit in his off grid caravan for 3 years & for 12 -15 hours a day. Sometime 24hrs constant in the winter & it never let him down. The only problem he had, was running it for too long at a low setting which caused carbon build up. The 8kw is too big really hence low running temps. He's an engineer and soon stripped it down and cleaned it out. He now uses top setting for a time regularly to keep it clean. Love your channel Dave.

@@oliver90owner On its lowest setting (2kw approx) it uses .01 L p/h. flatout .5 L p/h. whether it is 8kw is up for debate. No doubt this can be worked out by diesel consumed. Dave did a test a while on this subject. Also, not use if trading standards in the uk would kick off if this turned out to be wrong. Flatout it kicks out some serious heat and way to much for my 24' x 12' workshop fulltime. i turn it down after 15 mins

Hey buddy, love your videos, I have one of the liquid and air heaters. My plan is to have heated floors and heat my water tanks and batteries along with heating the air in my RV, but really need something that works on a thermostat so it doesn't just run all day... Mr Jones can't help because the connections are wrong for the afterburner. Any ideas? I thought about getting the board and controller that his controller does work with and using the fan wire to trigger a relay to run the water pump but not sure if that will work.

Thanks for the video David, Have you been able to change the altitude setting? I have the same heater and controller from Hcalory and consistently travel and camp at elevations between 2km and 3km ASL. Based on the instruction manual that shipped with the unit, I was hopeful I'd be able to make changes to the altitude (by accessing En06 within the engineering mode menu) -It appears, however, to only allow viewing of the mode and not the ability to modify it. For that matter, I can't find the ability to simply fine tune the fuel low and high Hz rate (to manually set it for a more lean burn at high elevations).
@DavidMcLuckie
@DavidMcLuckie Жыл бұрын
I think it might be for display purposes only. There doesn't appear to be any adjustment either. I have found one controller that does actually do something when you turn on 'elevation' mode and you can hear the fuel pump change hz. Its the one that looks like the original black rectangle but the display on screen is different.

If you've not already done so is there any chance you could do a quick comparison of all the different controllers testing the idle current when the heater is in standby and not active? Ie. Afterburner, this bluetooth controller, the ones with 433MHz receivers/transceivers, the simple dial controllers, etc. What with all the various options now available it'd be handy to know which are most power-conscious when the heater isn't in use.

Great video as always David seems like a nice little heater, if you wanted to run it outside it would be handy if the manufacture would include a external temperature sensor so it could be indoors or even make the controller detachable with a longer lead but maybe that will come in a future update, not a bad price for what it is plus it's a small step closer to the Afterburner but still nowhere near the functionality.
@DavidMcLuckie
@DavidMcLuckie Жыл бұрын
That would be a good idea as well. An extension for the temp sensor. Don't really want the exhaust gas in the space you're heating, and having it ventilated just means you'll use a lot more fuel trying to stay warm. Small steps, but at least they are trying.

They should change the design of their heat exchanger casing and run the first 12-14 inches of exhaust piping directly out the burner and free float through the air tunnel it would make more heat off the exhaust and cool it down before it exits the exchanger body so exhaust tempratures are lower. it would probably be 30-40% more efficent too.

Hi David, do you think I could just run the combustion intake INSIDE the case rather than using the tubing to put everything outside? With those generous vents on the side of the case, I'm guessing it'd have enough air? Also, there is no filter on the combustion intake. Is that a problem? That big plastic thing is just a muffler. I've got little 25mm intake filter on the way but curious as to what you'd recommend
@DavidMcLuckie

Yes. The case itself is sitting outside so you don't really need the intake. Unless you're running somewhere really dusty, the air filter is there to stop you sucking in leaves and having rodents make a next.

No you don’t, I have the genuine hcalory 5k, the thermostat mode doesn’t properly work, the auto start stop isn’t in the programming at all. And the heater only puts out about 1/3 what the vevor does. As a party bonus the heated air smells like diesel fumes. These things are absolutely garbage.

If it's just running the heater 12.4 is fine, if you were using it to float a battery charge then you'd need to look up what your type of battery is and the float voltage.

McLuckie, When you "revisit" the exhaust insulation: wrap it with some copper pipe and DiY a "cup of tea" maker: if you're in an emergency without power for days, who wouldn't like a hot cup of tea/coffee/etc? Then wrap it with some ridiculous space-age insulation. 🤯 You're welcome 🥳

Looks like a good bit of kit but, not so sure about the plastic housing re exhaust. That defo needs more insulation. I've just fitted a Vevor chinese 8kw all in one unit in my workshop as replacement for 5kw of electric heating. It works really well. Not just heat but, air circulation makes it much more even spread. Gonna work out way cheaper & I am seriously considering buying another 1 just incase we get the power outages forecast. This time, I'm going to mount it outside in a weatherproof box & drill a hole through the blockwork for the outlet making it pretty inside before the wife has a fit! . Who would have thought 12 months ago we would all be thinking about so many off grid ways to keep warm. Fitted a woodburner too lol. Just need a mini nuclear power plant and we're sorted.

David, watched. This video last year, bought the same from amazon, cracks all over and refunded. Be this the case, I've two units velor and hcalory, the hcalory all in one is absolute crawly made, with nice graphic plastic and thick, but after 6 months concealed in a weather proof box attached to.the. house, cracked for no reason. Why I mention this is, it also had the same Bluetooth function which I found great, easier to sit in living room and turn.on.or off, up and down etc. But now I've changed to the velor which has worked for 2 years now in the Garage l, the Bluetooth function is a passing memory. Question, you've had this unit a while, has the casing degraded at all, how do you align the exhaust also, to keep water out whilst on or off, is it worth the 159 quid at todays price or just aa a standby emergency unit, which is portable unlike other brands. Cheers enjoy the coming freeze, you are prepard

When u set automatic start up and shut down mode. Lower u set the temp, the heat and fan speed drop. 36C its max but 21celsius its set at 4 or 5 out of 10. Adjust it in settings 0 to -9 or up to pkus 9. But closer it gets to set temp fan speed and heat get lower and lower. Why is that? Why wont it allow heater to stay at max heat and fan speed. 29C is 7 out of 10 for heat.

Most diesel has biodiesel added as a lubricant. Check the pump sticker next time you buy fuel. Biodiesel is incredibly slippery, and it replaces the sulfur compounds which were previously used to improve fuel lubricity. If you stick with two stroke oil be sure to use an “ash-less” type to minimize carbon buildup

I bought a few of these based on the auto start feature, the Bluetooth is a nice touch, but when the first one didn’t function properly by thermostat mode, and f9 wasn’t even in the options menu (even though it is the model that is supposed to do that) and as a party bonus (the heater is mounted outside my 5th wheel with the 3” heated air ducted inside through the floor) I have diesel fumes inside. I shut it down and turned up the propane furnace. These are a real “pile of kit” I’m sending them back, I’ll deal with the non auto start vevors occasionally overheating me, at least I’ll be alive, and not burn down my rig. This was the first hcalory product I’ve tried, and will be the last. Absolute rubbish!
