In my last diesel heater review video, I mentioned that the SS2 was the king of affordable type diesel heaters, and as it has proven to be a really great heat source. Hcalory has Since challenged that not only is this heater the ONE but all of their line of heaters are. So In today’s video I’m going to be comparing this heater that I really love with this other heater offered by hcalory and at the end of the video I’ll give you my thoughts. Are the main differences improved? Why is one cheaper than the other? What heater would you choose? Let’s find out! Thanks for watching 🍻
Hcalory sent me this heater to review for my viewers. I will receive a small commission if a heater is purchased through my links. ATEM OFFROAD appreciates any type of support and I do my best to find the best affordable offroad gear. My reviews are always honest and I will always let you know if its worth it or not.

Could I strap this underneath my van, on it's side? I'd tap the fuel from the van tank and make sure that the pump is still at the optimum angle. Would also run the control to inside. Just wondering if these heaters function if turned 90 degrees or if they have to be that way up with the exhaust coming out the bottom like that. The case would offer good protection which is what got me thinking.

It can be removed but the lead is not long enough and it will need to be extended to be inside the ice hut. The only issue i deal with this diesel heater is that my 12v output can't handle the ignition. I have an ecoflow river 2 pro and overload protection hits during the ignition. Ecoflow can barely handle one night with this burner. After the ignition the consumption is about 25- 35 watts level 2. With my older 5kw burner the consumption after the ignition was 10watts

@@ATEMOFFROAD I forgot to mention that I use a 220 to 12v converter for the ignition and the rest of the night, but maybe this is the reason why the EcoFlow can’t handle the night. Maybe it was an over temp code, now I can't remember but I was going to try running it with a 4" duct instead of the little 3" one, also I might add, I ran it at my house for HOURS on high and it ran fine, I am about 550' above sea level and then when I went to the mountains at 7k is when it gave me trouble. so I guess I made assumptions lol

The big problem with the Hcalory heaters is some of them (because it apparently varies) use too much power on startup to use with a portable power bank. My brother just rolled the dice on one and it tries to pull about 12a before overloading the power station, which is rated at 10a. Not returnable to Amazon so it's either buy a spare battery like you have or spend less and get a better quality heater.

Another reason not to use a power bank is that it can shut off on you if you turn off your heater during the night, because there is no draw from the battery it automatically shuts down over a specific amount of time when not in use. If your up stairs like I am in a tent, your going back down to the battery to turn it back on to turn your heater on . Makes the wireless part of the heater pointless. IMO. 🍻

I highly doubt if the 8KW is an actually 8KW and more than likely just a 5KW heater relabled. In my research on these types of heaters, I find many of them are just the 5KW heaters relabled as an 8KW to sell them for more. Do the research! I found many videos showing the difference (or lack of) between the so called 8KW heaters and the standard 5KW heaters and it appears there is none. Just get a 5KW heater and save yourself some $$! Another thing...that is not an air filter that goes on the end of the air tube. It's just a muffler, that's why the end is wide open! That's why you should do your research. Put an air filter on the end of that hose to keep contaminants from getting to the glow plug, atomizer screen and keep the burn chamber clean.

Right now that heater is 169 with 40% off 111.0 it’s cheap, at the end of the video I mentioned that I’d rather choose the other heater over this one for many reasons than the external fuel tank. ( I’m not a big fan either). Also this heater may not be appealing to one who overlands but one who is heating up a shop , garage or shed because the ease of connecting your own external fuel cell or it may be appealing to those who want to attach a larger diesel rotopax to the side of it. This heater is turnkey and kicks out a ton of heat, but at the end of the day for my use, tent camping, I’d rather choose the other one

I am corrected, if you have this model with the older controls. The newer heater this one is automatically adjusted. amzn.to/3Uanvsp

Theres definitely a learning curve for these. The other model is more user friendly as this one doesn’t automatically adjust for altitude.
