We recently enjoyed a session at the brand new Climbing Hangar in Reading, where we put ourselves to the test in a friendly bouldering competition. Nathan and I both have very different climbing styles, with Nathan being very tall and me being on the smaller side. We both prefer different climbing techniques, so it was really cool to compare over four boulders, picked carefully to separate the field by Alex Waterhouse.

Listen, I am not trying to be disrespectful, but I would really recommend getting a pair of pants that actually fit so you don't have to readjust your pants after every second step you take. As a fellow tall climber, I know this can be difficult to find climbing pants with long legs AND a narrow cut. But every time there is a video with you in it I cannot help but notice this.

@@rixdalerheptads1505 this happens to me when I climb in sweatpants. There aren't many pants that fit me well, but my dad uses Prana pants and they are great. We are also going to try 3rd Rock who makes climbing pants!

Great video Hannah, that pink one looked like a real fun challenge. It was super cool seeing the depth of you guys' process on how to climb that boulder, really relatable especially when you spend a minute thinking and discussing potential other betas, and then when you try it you just end up trying the exact same beta again lol

Thanks Ryan! It was a great boulder and a fun one to end the competition on. I sometimes second guess the ‘working out the beta’ sections - worry they might not be as engaging for people, but hopefully people find the process informative and helpful for their own climbing too. Story of my life on messing up my beta intentions too hehe.

That looks like an awesome Gym! The grading system is interesting as the difficulty is based on the colour of the routes. Here in BC some gyms use a bracketed grading system while others use a v-scale. There are benefits to both, however I'm a big fan of the v-scale.

Great Video, the pacing was on point. Just out of curiosity, may I ask which shoes Nathan is wearing and which size they are? Also does he happen to own other pairs of climbing shoes, he can recommend, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I’ll double check but I believe they’re men’s La Sportiva SKwama in a UK 10. Nathan wears a couple of sizes smaller that his street shoe in them because they fit quite big. I wear the women’s version and find the same.

@@hannahmorrisbouldering Thank you for your reply! I'll definetely try them out, if my local shop has them in stock. I'm currently in Tenaya's Tarifa UK 12, I believe, but I do think there is some potential to downsize a little, so maybe I can fit them in UK 11, which is iirc the biggest size they produce them in.
