A lot of questions I see about TPMS are “I filled up my tire to recommended pressure but the light doesn’t go out”. A trick to fix that is overfill a couple of PSI to force the reset. You still have to ride it a little to get a fresh reading.

@@DKCustomProducts in my experience sometimes not if it’s at exact recommended TP. Probably not the most accurate reading on these things and the computer wants to see a certain pressure point before resetting the warning light. After that the light will stay off even if it loses a couple lbs. It shouldn’t come on again until its 5lbs low or whatever triggers the warning again.

Want to mention something on tire pressure. Just rewatched you video on tire pressure and is good. I use to always carry a little compressor that would connect to tender plug and had a nice digital gauge I knew was good. If saw someone with a tire that looked low, would check with them. Worst I ever saw was someone that had 8psi in front tire and 16psi on rear?? Was able to get it up to correct values with pump. Did that often with other riders. Unfortunately, pump and my jumper were stolen from saddle bag, so don't carry it. Another issue, is don't trust gas station gauges. They are often way off. Double check with a good gauge to confirm value. Also find many gas stations have out of order pumps... Have a 2013 sportster that doesn't have TPMS. Did buy one that hooks to phone, but haven't tested it out yet. Thanks for the videos..

@@DKCustomProducts Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, went to link, and found that it can not ship to Guam, USA. Probable due to the lithium battery. About 5 years ago got a Lithium battery for my 2013 48. Went to 7 companies and none would ship it to Guam. Can't go by Air. USPS said, it could be shipped surface that generally takes 8 to 12 weeks to get to Guam, but no one would use that method? Had to have it shipped from JP Cycles to a friends company that ships item directly to Guam via ships. Since there ship comes straight from CA to Guam, it only took 10 days. USPS goes to Hawaii, and then reships again, and is low priority... Has been great battery. Original on from dealership only lasted 2 years and was more expensive.. Also 3lbs for Lithium versus 8lbs for Harley battery. Thanks again for the quick response. Should post a link to your tire pressure video for those that don't have TPMS...

That is a moving target, as ownership and management changes, what might be great when a video is made may be horrible 2 months later, and vice versa. I always know what I want, independent of any dealership input. Then I arrange how I will pay for a bike. Then I start calling dealerships within $250 one way flight area Do they have the bike I am looking for What is their out the door price. Whoever is best is who gets my business...factoring in travel & accommodation's (if needed). The key is knowing exactly what you want and having the money or financing already lined up.

You might start your day out in the morning it’s 70°F, make sure my tires are at 40 lbs….. two hours later the ambient temperature goes up 20° and now your tires are over inflated, ride for another two hours and it’s now 100°F and your tires are now sitting at 57 pounds. Park your bike at a motel at a relatively high elevation and check it in the morning and it’s at 34 pounds under inflated. So what do you do? Wait till 8 o’clock in the morning before you ride so you don’t have to air up your tires again? This is one thing that’s funny really if you think about it. So what I’ve chosen to do is make sure I’ve got my 40 pounds before I takeoff and forget the rest unless of course you find yourself with a flat tire. Way too many variables.
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts Жыл бұрын
It is not that complicated. It is covered in the video you commented on, and it is also covered in this video link, in a bit more detail- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eth8i6yZspPJiIk.html Set the tire at the correct PSI when cold (has not been ridden in a few hours). Yes, the PSI will go up and down based on ambient temps, riding load and speed, and elevation. The tire manufacturers know that and build the tires with those factors in mind. If you have the PSI at the right number when "cold", everything else that effects it, you don't need to worry about. Some guys run nitrogen in their tires instead of air, because nitrogen does not vary as much as air does with varying circumstances.

Yeah, yeah. Sounds like the HD TPMS is just so so privative. Charge an arm and a leg for it but just monitors tyre pressure every 4 hours, what a joke! Just like when it went to fuel injection, every other bike manufacture just required a new chip to be inserted to manage performance upgrades, but not Harley Davidson, you had to replace the entire ECU on a 1996 HD tourer if you did a Stage 2. So much for being a premium brand.

Every 4 hours with the engine off. And you are talking about the Mareli FI? from 1998?
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts Жыл бұрын
As Bruce pointed out, it sends every 4 hours when the bike is sitting still. When it is going down the road it is constantly updating, and it is actually quite sophisticated, as it will learn your preferences and adjust for them and the ambient temps. This is talked about, beginning at the 2:54 mark in the video. Yeah, when HD was playing around, in the beginning, with EFI, they used a very clunky Magneti Marelli system for a few years...but only on a few bikes. Back then the majority were carbed. Then they went to a Delphi system without o2 sensors, but that was also on very few bikes, most were still carbed. When they went to all EFI with Delphi in 2006 on Dyna's and all the rest in 2007, they had it dialed in pretty good.

@@DKCustomProducts I agree. I've owned H-Ds for 30+ years. This M8 deal, is hard to swallow and I know that EPA is causing part of it. Still doesn't make it easier to take. Great channel, guys! Very informative!

Yes, or get an older bike, for less $, and then you have that extra $ not spent on a new bike to make the used one exactly how you want it.

Hoodie?!?! Are you the same Hoodie that took care of me at Queen City HD a few years ago? I don't agree with the statement that tire pressure changes with altitude. Unlike temperature, changes in ambient air pressure won't have an appreciable effect on tire pressure.
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts Жыл бұрын
I let Hoodie answer if he is that guy. Regarding PSI and elevation, every 5000 feet elevation change will change tire pressure by 2-3 psi. Not only does every tire company have that if you do a search, but that is what I have observed riding mountain passes...that is in addition to the psi increase from tires warming up from riding.

@@DKCustomProducts I think we may be talking about different things here. Notwithstanding tire pressure changes due to temperature (both ambient and the tire itself), the pressure doesn't change with elevation, but the indicated measurement might change since the measurement is based on the delta between ambient and the tire. In other words, measuring a tire pressure of 40 psi at sea level means the absolute tire pressure value is 54.7 psi minus ambient air pressure of 14.7 psi. At 10,000 feet, ambient is only 10.1 psi, even though the absolute value of the tire pressure is still 54.7 psi (if no other factors such as temperature affect the measurement), so the gage would read 44.6 psi instead of 40 psi. I don't know that TPMS sensors account for decreased ambient pressure, or that the bike has an ambient pressure sensor (or brains to calculate the difference), but if you manually measure your tire pressures with a good tire gage then you WILL see a difference in measured tire pressure for the reasons I just stated.

@@rickharris323 Understood, and agreed. But how many are going to read and understand that. They are going to look at the PSI at higher elevations and see that it is higher on the gauge or the TPMS.
