Finally a detailed video about this player! It was a good idea to put more time into the channel. I'm following the site since 2007. Your camera is so good that even with KZfaq's compression it's still pretty sharp but you have a swivel chair so you should do a quarter turn while operating the remote because it looks uncomfortable for you :D So the channel is already great but stop repeating those subscribe lines :) Hope that your LG OLED C7 video or whichever OLED you have for testing this month will be this good as this vid and the Philips one. keep it up

Finally, I now understand what 4.4.4, 4.2.2 and 4.2.0 mean and how it works. I am going to experiment with the 4.4.4 setting and take it out of "auto" mode. Great explanation.

Hi Vincent. Excellent analysis. Would like to ask you a question that has bugged me for some time. I have a JVC N5 projector and an Oppo 203 4K UHD Player. Based on your video, am I right to say that it doesn't matter whether the 4k player performs the Chroma up-sampling (from 4:2:0 to 4:4:4), or whether the Projector does it, eventually it has to be done anyway ? In other words, the projector will display 4:4:4 RGB in any case ?

Thanks for a great breakdown of the picture settings. Got a question about my setup. Oppo 203 and the Panasonic AX900. Got some banding problems with the panasonic (MAD MAX movie for example). I´ve been wondering about if the oppo could solve this problem. I think the Panasonic isn´'t perfect in the panning shots in movies where you on bluray can get a jerky image. Read about some upscaling that the Panasonic does. Any recommendations. Pure Direct on the panasonic? 4:4:4 from Oppo?

Hello, I'm a new subscriber and I love your content, so please keep it up! : ) Anyway, I'm looking for a recommendation on new bluray player for my VPL-HW40ES 1080p projector. I'm sick of the cheap feeling mini size players that are available today for standard bluray, so I'm thinking of going with a UHD player to finally have a full size and well built player. Would you recommend using a UHD player with my 1080p projector??? Also, I have a Onkyo TX-NR808 receiver with HDMI 1.4a inputs in my theater room, so I'm really not sure if that will be an issue with a UHD player's HDMI 2.0 outputs for video. . . SO any advise that you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Why did you skip past Custom Resolution? Is there any reason why yours was set to 1080p Auto and not UHD Auto?

Thank you for you excellent explanation! I have some trouble with black and white movies: the blacks turn to sepia. The colour is maybe too warm, or the black is just not black. Is there a setting that will correct this in the player itself? BTW, for the time being, the player is connected to an old Pana ae700U projector.

Hi. Love your informative videos. I have an LG 55” Oled 2016 TV. I have just purchased an Oppo 203 and after setup I was having problems with white flashing on screen when the Oppo was on the setup screen. I have contacted Oppo service who advised me that this is a known issue related in the main to LG Oled sets. I was advised to set the Oppo playback setup to “custom resolution” and try different presets. Which has fixed the problem (1080p). This however is far from a satisfactory situation. I have noticed on this video that you have the custom resolution set to 1080p. Is this intentional?. I would be interested if you could give your opinion/thoughts on the problem I am experiencing and the effect of using a set custom resolution less than the native resolution of the 4K UHD discs I am playing. Thank you so much.

Vincent, the Oppo has a feature that allows for smoothing - or removal of film grain. This was prevalent on the BDP - 83 model and called "Detail Enhancement". The 203 strangely doesn't have it and I assume it has more to do with the hardware and the old Anchor Bay chip being able to do this. Are you able to see if the Noise Reduction smooths out the film grain..? Thx...

I have a Sony 940D and I'm passing through a Yamaha advantage 850. I'm also using Blue Jean HDMI from the OPPO to the receiver and currently Audioquest Cinnamon out to the TV. I will be changing it to a Blue Jean soon. Should I change my color space or leave it alone. Or are there any other settings I should change to optimize my video output?

Is there a way to custom (but proportional) zoom to eliminate black bars during playback, or in settings? I've always liked doing this, even if it cuts off a little on the left and right. It's much more enjoyable to me to have a bigger and more immersive picture. I used to be able to do this on my old LG OLED, but now I'm ok a Sony led x930e, and the tv cannot do any sort of custom zooming. So I'm looking for a player with this capability. Can you do a review of the LG up875 4k Blu Ray player?

I have a question about this machine. My amp doesn't do 4k so I need to route video directly to the TV with a second hdmi to the amp for sound, all very straightforward and simple, my problem is the pc. Currently it runs through the amp to the TV at 1080p via hdmi which also carries the sound. My question is could I plug my pc into the Oppo hdmi input and use that to output to the TV at 4k and sound through to the amp through its second hdmi output? I'd like to minimise cables if I can and this would be a significantly cheaper option than buying a new receiver!!
