The hockeystick graph is just the graph of the exponential function. It has to do with growth. If you look at the limits of our planet, you'll realise that sustainable growth is an oxymoron. Infinite growth on a finite planet is impossible.
@Cinqmil
@Cinqmil 7 жыл бұрын
The exponential function by the way has as it's derivative itself. It means that it accelerates as it grows. It is the 'fastest acceleration', you cannot catch up with it by any other function. (correct me if I'm wrong.) This means that once continuous growth is established, everything that feeds that growth must grow at the same exponential rate, or eventually everything collapses. It happens with cancer, it happens with bacteria, it happens in Ponzi Schemes. It will happen with Climate change and with World Population Growth too. If you really look into it, then you'll realise that this is the most urgent threat humanity faces. We have no control as of yet over Exponential Growth. If you could somehow convince cancer not to grow, or even decrease in size then there would be no problems. The same is true for populations; if you can control their growth, prosperity is possible for everyone. Too bad some ideologies will have to go.

We live in an age that scientists have called The Anthropocene. Species are dying out on giant scale. Climate Change and its consequences threaten our very existence. Sea level is rising, oceans are becoming more acidic, entire ecosystems are shutting down. There is no technology to get CO2 back out of the air. If we continue to put it into the air then we are crazy lunatics. Right now, science has been trying to bring out a very clear message to the world. Yet, we fail to listen and implement it. Eg: the USA now has elected an idiot leader who wants to burn more and more fossil fuels; and shut down Green energy. It is irresponsible. Like letting a kid play with a loaded gun. The technology that you hope will save you does not exist. I don't know if you meant it in a cynical way, but that's exactly how it is going to be: eventually we will become Gods,...non-existent.

When you're in the middle of chaos and just trying to make sense of things, it may be helpful to get a longer view. This certainly introduces some threads of sanity and touch stones to reality.

This guy is spot on. The things Trump says are baffling-but we can't get caught up. We can't focus on the man-we have to focus on the politics.

Regarding the stolen wealth, Hamptons, the City, etc; I believe it was FDR who said to the robber barons "give back some of it or lose all of it"; History repeats itself and austerity has led us to the brink of revolution -- BBC directors and hedge fund managers -- me thinks that's a fine lookin high horse that ya got in the stable, feed a lot of hungry faithful.... or was that a song lyric? I can't remember...
