That's actually a really good point about defenders flinching and looking away from a shot. John Terry was the best I saw at completely throwing himself in the way

It was Joe Fagan who said that to Souness. Souness came from Middlesbrough to Liverpool but started out at Tottenham.

It’s so cringe when older players (of any sport) cling on. Sport evolves, it naturally gets better with sports science, medical knowledge, nutrition, etc etc. The game is a lot better now and we have no idea how old players would translate. It’s quicker, more tactical, more technical now than it was back then. It just sounds like a bitter old man arguing that back in his day it was better

Messi is not a great player, he only appears to be good. The game has changed so obviously with the rules they have now and the fact you can’t tackle means messi is good. In the 70s he wouldn’t have made it as a pro. He’s too small, he’d have got booted round the pitch from 10 to 20 and then probably give up and been a milkman

I totally disagree! Rush wouldn't score 50 odd. It's like the Messi, Ronaldo, Pele or Maradonna argument. Put Pele and Maradonna into today's modern football and they wouldn't score 25

Yes they would because of the skill level. And if they lived today to be able to do that they would be on the same nutrition and have the sports science as all the other athletes

Half of the top players from the last century would not even make it as pros these days, because they wouldn't have the discipline to be top athletes. Now players not only have to be great in a technical and tactical aspect, but physically they are required to be close to Olympian athletes.

No, adding sport science on top of Rushs' ability and he'd be even better than he was, which is hard to imagine tbh as he was absolutely electric in his prime years. He was so good he literally made being a Utd fan a miserable existence at times, believe me 😂

That's what I try to tell people, but they always attack me for it online lol. Around 2000 when players like Henry were in Premier League.. that's when elite athletes appeared and would still excel now.

That's a rubbish argument. So, in 50 years time, with even more advanced "sports science", will everyone be saying Ronaldo and Messi were crap?
@FrankieBlueEyes
@FrankieBlueEyes Жыл бұрын
Every sport has these arguments. Yes, if you dropped a player from the 1980s or 1960s into today's game it would be a heck of an adjustment for them. But if that same player, with the same level of talent and skill was a product of the modern time they would still be a great player. The true greats would have been great in any era.
@ivanaleksandartsanev1693
@ivanaleksandartsanev1693 Жыл бұрын
@@garywallace5602 It's not about the science, it's about what is required in the modern day. Players back then could be overweight and drink every day, you think training was anywhere near the intensity it has today? A lot of these players wouldn't have the discipline and mindset to grind every day, to set boundaries and fully focus on being a pro. That's why a lot of youth skillful players don't make it these days, whereas they would have been the best players in previous generations. Because it's not just the technique, it's about building your body to be up there with the best in the world, across any sport.
