I really enjoyed watching Reggie Lewis play. He was smart, skilled, fast and could really score, while playing great defense. I believe strongly that he was a good, and good natured young man. It floored me when I heard of his passing.

I was working at the hospital the team used at the time this happened . The cardiologist told him his heart condition could be managed but he couldn't play BB . His wife didn't like the sound of that and found a cardiologist at another Boston hospital who assured her that under his care Lewis could still play BB . The wife came up to our hospital and checked her husband out and took him to the B&W'S hospital where her new Dr. worked . We all know how that worked out for Mr Lewis .

I couldn’t stop crying 😢 when he died and went to his service at northeastern sad sad 😞 day in Boston I was a young teenager at the time. He was such a nice guy great player and was about to blow when he died the league was on notice about Reggie Lewis he was even consider to be on the dream team at the time. I remember cause they was talking bout him or either Rodman. Reggie never had technical foul called on him the entire time he played in the league rite up to his death that’s never been heard. The reason a lot of people don’t know bout him he died young he was literally the 12 man on the bench and became captain of the Celtics that’s unheard of now Kevin And parish we’re still on the team this was two hall of famers Reggie was the man you look up he have 38,40, or 42 points teams couldn’t stop him. Let me add a little of my personal story to the mix. I was a 19 year-old prospect from Greece back in 1991. My Greek-American coach thought I had NBA potential (at 6’10”, 7’4” wingspan and about 240lbs back then - later in my career I went up to 285lbs playing weight). I liked to play the small forward having developed good handling, shooting and passing skills. My idols back then were Magic and Tony (Kukoc). I could relate to those guys as I was tall and wiry. So at that age my Greek-American coach promoted me to several American universities of the Boston area (he grew up there). I went to Boston College and played a scrimmage with Eisley, Curley and the rest of the then team of the Eagles. They measured my standing leaping ability at 36” vertical which was the second highest in the team at that time (I think behind Eisley’s or Abram’s 38”). I had a video tape that showed me shooting the three and making 30 out 35 consecutive unedited 3s. They gave me a position at BC but no scholarships were available then because I had problems with my Visa and ended up trying out around September when they have already given up every scholarship they had. I opted to try out for more colleges (fees for foreign students were extraordinarily high without the aid of an athletic scholarship) and next was Northeastern University which, at the time, was under the coaching of Karl Fogel. Because my coach was very respected in the States and was indeed a very serious man Fogel arranged a 3 vs 3 try out in which he matched me up with.......Reggie Lewis (who was already a Celtics player). We played a couple of games in which I was very nervous and really got my ass kicked by Reggie. What I remember from him are two things: his easy going and polite character (no trash talking, his best wishes for my future career after we ended the try out) and his unbelievably high jump shot. Me, with Dale Davis potential, jumping 36” vertically and with 7’4” wingspan couldn’t get closer than his wrist when he was shooting the ball. Later in my career I was the #1 shot blocker of any professional league I participated in. That should tell you something about how good this guy was. He, of course, would use a quick crossover (almost statically) dribble and step back (a bit like Harden today) to distance himself from me but he would not miss a single shot and I just couldn’t get close enough to block him! I actually imitated that move in the future and it was indeed unstoppable. I was greatly sorrowed when I heard of his untimely death. R.I.P.

Love it. Bird always outplayed Jordan head to head, as well. Frankly, I am VERY over hearing the word "Jordan." He is a TERRIBLE team owner, and he charges FAR too much for his sneakers, especially considering the fact that he is a multi-millionaire, possibly a billionaire!!! Poor kids' families are scraping up the 100+ dollars per pair because of school peer pressure to have the. IMO, Jordan should just cover his costs per pair of sneakers, because he sure doesn't need the money!!! Steph Marbury and Shaq have done this with their personalized sneakers, and I applaud them for it!! Not "Jordan." The so called "greatest." Not as a human being, that is a certainty!!!

Jordan had better speed, and handles, probably the better scorer too. Reggie was long, smooth, great moves on the block and a phenomenal shooter midrange. Yeah what mighta been......Aside from that maybe the Celts never draft Reggie if Bias was there, Bias was a 3/4, Regg was more of a 2/3....Def food for thought, maybe the Pistons never get outta the east in the late 80s/90s too....WTF makes my headache n my mind sad just thinking about it 😢🤦🏻‍♂️

I'll tell you what separated Lewis from Birds other teammates. Bird created shots for his teammates. He didn't have to do that as much with Lewis and we'll McHale also. They could create there own shots. That's something you can't get the new generation to understand and that was big because it meant they had someone coming up that could step into Birds role so he could step aside

Amen!! Thank you, Brother, for producing and posting this reflection on the Great Reggie Lewis! I am a proud, born and bred Bostonian Sports Fan, and personally ran across Reggie during his time at Northeastern U. and then the Celtics. No matter what I say, I can not do justice to the Person that Reggie Lewis was to anyone who crossed paths with him, and to what he meant to this city! And, Yes, he was that great a ball player, too! Notice the number of regrets of what could have been with Larry Bird, Len Bias and Reggie Lewis! The Celtics won Championships in every decade since the 50's, except for the 90's due to tragic endings for Len and Reggie. In any case, to those who knew him, encountered him, followed and admired him, and unfortunately even for those who didn't, this World is a bit less than, due to Reggie Lewis' passing. Rest in Peace, Brother! And, Thank You!
