It never bothered me that George Harrison seemed under-appreciated as a song writer, the band broke up and I got a whole album of George Harrison; in fact, I got three records of George Harrison. It was a treasure trove of music.

I always preferred George over Paul and John. And in that order. John was clever but to me he always was below the other two in sheer skill and ability. And to me Ringo will always be Thomas the Tank Engine.

Of all his spiritual anthems this speaks the most to me in life. It’s less about worshipping a creator, and more about making sense of life and your place in the cosmos. It’s very calming and encouraging to wait it out, see if things don’t change for you. Nothing is permanent.

George was definitely philosophical about his own impending death. He said (IIRC) at one point "This is what I've been training for my whole life" or words to that effect - he felt well prepared, anyway, and unafraid. Deathbed accounts speak of a great light appearing and leaving the room at the moment of his passing. He also made jokes about his mortality/life and death. For example, when he was being carried out of his house on a stretcher following the near-fatal knife attack by an obsessed fan/ home intruder, he passed a new gardener standing amongst the group of shocked onlookers. Weakly, George managed to crack out: "So, how are liking the new job, so far?"

I hugely admired George even though I did not share his beliefs. He was an intelligent thoughtful and pragmatic man who was always wise beyond his years - especially in his reactions to the whole Beatles madness. I love, adore and venerate this song but I have always wondered why he set the temp so slow - it is - as you @HarriBestReactions point out- essentially an optimistic song so there is an incongruity with playing it at the same tempo as a funeral march, but maybe that was George's vision of the song? - a meditative pace for those lyrics. Whatever, I have always listened to this song when the blues came-a-calling and it always lifts my mood and reaffirms my optimism.

Yes you can find hope in this song but for me it's more like perspective, the big picture. He isn't promising good things will come, just that all things good, bad or indifferent will pass away. Even glaciers melt and mountains can be worn down. A human life is just a cosmic blink in time. I take comfort in it, probably his finest song.

This was in a group of songs George presented to the band for inclusion of what would ultumately be the Let It Be album…and was rejected, further fueling his frustration with Paul (and John as well). Interestingly, George envisioned this as a The Band-influenced tune but Phil Spector’s production moved it into another sphere with the orchestral overdubs.

You miss the other side of the coin : The expression "all things must pass" also refers to the fact that everything is constantly changing and will eventually be gone , so don't get attached to them, whether it's material things or people. This is a central teaching of Indian philosophy. It is attachment that brings you all the pain in Life and everybody experiences pain, both physical and spiritual. Your youth will pass, your health will in the end, pass away. Your wife or husband will eventually pass away (or you may pass first) and you will experience pain after loving them for decades . ALL things MUST pass. That's the way of this world, so if you become attached to this world, you WILL suffer, sooner or later .

Like I said in one of my earlier comments, seasons are of longer duration and it deals with past lives and future lives. The duration of the day deals with the Sun passing through the natal chart in anti-clockwise direction reminding us that the spirit of the the soul is constantly bombarded by outside mundane events during the day and we must not be sad for too long. Catch the opportunity to uplift your soul at the opportune time.

I want to point out and I am going to include some stuff you should, we should, this is a WE THING, perhaps the most unrecognized musician in the world is Bobby Whitlock. George Harrison asked him to put together his "main band" for ALL THINGS MUST PASS, and he did Bobby Whitlock plays on every song on that album AND THE MAIN BAND is Derek and the Dominoes, its Whitlock's vocals you hear in the back up in Bell Bottom Blues (which he co-wrote) and Layla. He was signed in the late 60's to Stax records but wasn't allowed to tour -THAT DIDN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW HE WAS WHITE. Derek and D... only made one TV appearance - on The Johnny Cash Show- its great. Whitlock now has a series of interviews his wife is putting togerther and HE KNOWS EVERYTHING about what happened in the 70's and the music business. D & D was my first concert at 14, BOBBY WHITLOCK played a grand piano on stage and blew Clapton away- and Clapton was my god then, ALL THOSE THINGS SAID Hari my freind, react please to ----- Anyday Derek and Dominoes and Keep on Growin Bobby Whitllock with Clapton playing Bell Bottom Blues. he is with Delaney & Bonnie A;wasys check out their Live on Tour with Eric Clapton (And Dave Mason) Things Get Better is the best cut on that album . AND listening to his interviews he is such a good, decmn decent g And he is such a good, decent, man of thoughtfulness, and humor, humility and warmth and a very great musician.
