In today's video, we get politely kicked out of a mall (No, they weren't jerks or anything), and then we end up in another location where I talk with this guy about God and truth on his coffee break. Good times.
Shout-out to Lino Chavez for helping us film this!

Yeah it's unbalanced. The dialogue of the interview is panned all the way to the left, music (intro) and your commentary is balanced. You can still hear the interview as long as your left channel is working :)

Fire and brimstone has been shown not to work on most humans. Look at the Gospels. Did Jesus use this style when he spoke to the common man? No, he came from a place of love and understanding. Yes, there were times when he was firm and spoke truth firmly. But like the Beatles song says if you go around showing pictures of Chairman Mao you ain't gonna get anybody anyhow...

@@awatchman-um7vy It is a point worth mentioning. I don’t think Melissa’s goal was on the spot conversion, but research, which is also valuable in the body. There’s a time for everything under the sun. I’m sure you don’t spend every waking breath telling every human you lock eyes with to repent, right? because it’s not fit for every situation. I agree with you that this disarmed man may have received the gospel really well, but like she said, she looks back and notices how the conversation could have gone differently too. This informational videos help all of us realize how sometimes the best step can be the first step. So I say grace. Concerning people can still be prayed for even when we don’t have the chance to talk to them. Additionally, there’s a difference between ripping off the bandage and scalding the cat. Take into consideration the person we talk to is a very needed part of evangelism. Even though the free gift is for everyone, Jesus himself says not all will receive it. Telling people the good news shouldn’t be so formulated or cookie cutter, neither might it be the most effective beginning with the fire and brimstone spiel. (Even if that’s not your proposed approach, it’s worth mentioning for the body’s sake that warning people about hell is not very often well received.) All these things should be handled with wisdom, it’s not easy for everyone To look on the bright side, My thanks to this video is that in consideration to a very anti social and anxious generation that may be in need of entry level ways to communicate, it helps us be curious and caring towards people in general, rather than anxious and wound up about the responsibility to save everyone (I’m talking about the implication- not the reality), which can be overbearing. This is just from me, a learning and growing faith walker. I still quite agree with your input in general. Preaching the gospel should not be neglected. Thank you for reading x

Melissa, I really like that you do these street interviews and commentary at the end. I also like that you base your questions on the worldview the person is coming from because that's what Apostles, Prophets, and even The Biblical narrative tends to do. I loved how disarmed this man was. I have found that seeking genuine love with the person that you are speaking with is so important. We’re not there to pound the gospel down their throats and we’re not there to meet a quick deadline. We are there to share good news, and we are there to do it in a manner that is loving. When people have their guard up, it’s because they feel there is no love, but the Bible says love cast out fear. Jesus said the two greatest commandments are to love God and love others as yourself. Good job on disarming and genuinely asking questions to try and understand his position. Also, I loved that you said pray for him. I really did and it is because you asked❤

4:07 on stealing... It's a trap! -- the real answer is that 🥁... Stealing is always wrong, it's always a sin. Culpability is usually helpful for dissecting a situation like the one described. Who out momma in that situation, was it her own choices, was she abandoned, was there a catastophy? Also there isn't a net good. There is the bad of stealing, and there is the good of providing for her children, but you can't combine those two fruits into the same basket and say they cancelled out.

Only one thing I'd suggest, Melissa. But before I say, let me first say you did (you're doing) great! Great questions. We need to be leading people with questions - many of us are too concerned about what we're going to say, talking too much. Get them talking (with a genuine loving interest in them). Let them talk, find out about them, they respect you for it, and you gain trust and build rapport - even in such a limited time. Everybody's favorite topic is themselves. Also, great question about truth - is it fluid based on culture at the time or is it consistent across time? I'll definitely use it! The one thing I'd suggest is to make sure you speak scripture during your conversation. Even if it's just one scripture. The Word is the seed. That's what they'll take away from conversation. Then the Holy Spirit can work with it after they've left you - especially in such a brief encounter - you've planted it in them. All your other questions and conversation is preparing the soil, then you can plant the seed. You can even use it as the basis for a question. For instance, "The Bible says eternal life is a gift of God through Jesus, not something we earn by how good we are. What do you think that means?" You've spoken Truth into them - job done - then get them to talk about, which means they have to think about it. Otherwise, nicely done! I'll keep watching.

His problem was he didn't know the difference between objective and subjective. Only after he was given an example (which he asked for, so he can discern what you just meant by "objective"), did he then gingerly offer up a response. An angle that not many people seem to appreciate and observe is how a person responds to something you say to them or ask them; through their body language, writing style or tone of voice.

@GregArmstronger
@GregArmstronger 9 ай бұрын
One point of advice: make sure to clearly distinguish between (1) objective vs subjective, and (2) absolute vs relative. The way you were defining objective in the conversation was actually more like absolute (i.e. non-relative). This is something William Lane Craig has explained very helpfully as to why he doesn’t use “absolute” language and instead uses “objective.” If you grasp the difference, it will really help. In the context of morality, “absolute” would be like saying the right or wrong is not situation dependent. On the flip side, “relative” would mean it is situation dependent. This is not the same thing as saying moral truth is “subjective.” Here “relative” would mean that the context of the behaviour is relevant for determining the moral duty or prohibition. Like your example with the midwives, it is the case that lying was permissible and even praised by God. The context for their behaviour was relevant. Likewise with self-defence. These are relative to the situation but, according to Scripture, not subjective. Subjective morality would mean that moral values and duties are based in the subject not the object. It is a matter of how I think about it, feel about it, or perceive it. Objective truth means it is true independent of what anyone feels, thinks, or perceives. The midwives killing the Hebrew babies boys under the command of a tyrant would always be wrong. Note that the moral truth here includes the species of action which is in part defined by its context. It is that specific action about which we must figure out if it is right or wrong. And according to a Biblical worldview, it is objectively right or wrong. It’s not dependent upon our knowledge of whether it is right or wrong, or dependent upon our feelings and perception. Were it defined by that dependency, then it would be subjective. Subjectivism is really what we mean when we talk of moral relativism. So in the conversation, the gentleman wasn’t clearly denying objective moral truth based on the way you were asking questions. He was simply saying the right and wrong must include the context of the situation as a factor for us to figure out whether it is right or wrong. I do think that if you pressed him on objectivity (defining it as something true independent of what anyone thinks or feels), he may show that he thinks morality is subjective. Hope that helps. Keeps the videos coming.

A lot of people don’t understand what objective and subjective morality means. Even I had to research these terms when I first heard this. I think if you’re not a seasoned apologist you won’t know what these mean. But it is good to ask people questions to see where they are at.

Well done. Just a word of advice for future discussions: if you reference the murder example again, try to elucidate the difference between killing and murder; they’re not the same thing, despite people commonly using these terms interchangeably. Killing in and of itself isn’t necessarily wrong, as in the examples of self-defense and certain acts of war. Murder, on the other hand, is the unjustified taking of innocent life (eg. walking up to a random person and shooting them in the head). The former can be warranted in some instances, but the latter has no justification, ever.

Sound only in left channel. Video editor should be able to fix that somehow--switch stereo to mono.

I love the question if you would die today, do u think you’d go to heaven? Then if they say yes or no, the simple question why do u think God would welcome you or why you don’t think you’d be welcome. Tells you pretty much exactly where they are in their walk.
