This guy played in the NBA during the 1990s and his playstyle was very familiar to what we see from Steph Curry today. His name is Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, formerly known as Chris Jackson.
I make all kinds of NBA videos which include trivia, analysis, player stories, countdowns, conspiracies, and mysteries. Make sure to leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

What is truly remarkable about Abdul-Rauf is that he balled at such high level while suffering from turret syndrome! If you are not familiar with turret syndrome it is a disorder that causes involuntary movements and sounds. I recall seeing sports segments detailing how he would arrive hours early to the arena to give him enough time to do simple tasks like tying his sneakers, which could take an hour or more because of the involuntary hand movements, like the need to rapidly clap his hands over and over while he was trying to lace up. I believe medication helped but the disorder is ever present. So when you watch the NBA highlights and his recent play in the Big3 league, remember he is balling while suppressing the disorder! He is an inspiration to all! Steph is great but he doesn't have to deal with turret syndrome!

I never forgot about him when Steph curry came in the league and rose to stardom for his shooting. He didn’t shock me because I seen the best at his craft in Mahmoud-Abdul-Rauf. For me the great difference with assassin shooters is his selection of shots principally, Rauf had a great technique and choose well when to shooto or what to do to create the perfect moment to attack. This are proffessionals and practice all the time but most of the times they force the play instead of looking for the advantage to attack. Result: High IQ for shooting choice is what Rauf had

Abdul-Rauf's career, or more like the end of his NBA career, is a tragedy. Changing religion and living by it should not be a reason to ban one from his work like that. Sure it was very unorthodox to refuse to stand for the national anthem and flag but it just shows how patriotic and limited the US people are when they just bluntly state "we just ban you from the league and refuse to pay you the money we agreed in your contract".

He's definitely very underappreciated for his pro career. Not including the anthem protest, that ended his career prematurely, and showed his heroism.. But the expectations were so high, considering, he's arguably the greatest college basketball player to have ever existed. Outside of Pistol Pete (another great LSU Tiger), you can make a serious argument that this dude was the best college guard ever. So basically, he had to be one of the greatest NBA guards ever, for people to say he lived up to the hype. Now he came no where close to reaching that potential.. but he was far from a bust. A very solid pro, that had his best years taken away from him.

That is so far down on the list of social impact you can't be serious. Organized gangs and crime however is very high on the list. And what do you mean "allows to exist." What about the bloods, crips, ms13, and different mafia groups? All of which have an infinitely more significant negative impact on our society. Are they "allowed" to exist? Action Jackson as he was called at LSU. Phenomenal player that I wish had come up in these millenial times, just think how famous he would be today if he had. Mahmoud was a tremendous athlete as well as a BBall player, he could jump out a gym and dunked on people and all despite being just 5'11. His shooting was second to none, and even though Tim Hardaway gets all the credit for starting the killer crossover dribbling Mahmoud was doing that too I could swear before him. He did all of this despite having a serious affliction in Tourette's syndrome, just a great guy and player.

I've been a Nuggets fan since the 1980s, and I really like this video. Some things not mentioned: 1. Chris Jackson / Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf suffered from Tourette's Syndrome, and although he took medication and apparently had it under control, I'm certain it kept him back. 2. During his time in the league, he fasted due to his religion, and the ongoing theory was that it affected his stamina. Of course, there were other Muslims like Hakeem Olajuwon who fasted, but CJ/MAR weighed only around 165 lbs. and didn't have a lot of strength to begin with. 3. While CJ/MAR had individual games of pure greatness, he was really inconsistent. The video mentioned the 51pt game on December 7, 1995, but what wasn't mentioned is that in the next game on December 8, he scored only 10 points. Many people attributed that to, again, his fasting and the fact that as a pure jump-shooter, he expended a lot of energy. 4. He was an exceptional free-throw shooter at 90.5% for his career, but he very rarely drove to the basket to got to the line. In fact, his career high in free throws per game was 2.9. Stephen Curry drives to the hoop more and in the last 4 years has averaged over 4.5 free throws per game. 5. The video also didn't mention that the 1990s style was much slower, and the Nuggets had a lot of low-post players like Dikembe Mutumbo and LaPhonso Ellis who got the ball.

Although not as explosive with his time with the Kings he was still fun to watch... I was sad to see what the league did and it killed his carreer. He really had an awesome mid-range and long distance shot but he didn't just throw it up like players do now to pad stats. He played with in a system.. both Kings and Nuggets. The Nuggets played a faster paced game for the early 90s.. the Kings played slower.

I'd like to see Steph Curry handling hand checking. This guy great as he is does get contained by the league's best wing defenders in clutch games. There is a reason the NBA enforced hand checking rules a few years after they implemented it. JORDAN retired a second time and probably on Kobe had the offensive skills to consistently combat that! And don't forget about Pistol Pete!

Nice catch, but you didn't mention his autism-like syndrome which Shaq, his former LSU teammate, even talks about in his autobiography. That mental situation determined much things in his career, especially his "shoot first, shoot always" kind of play style...

No way. That's crazy. Dell could shoot but his drive was no where near the same level. MARs drive and 2pt shot were just as good as his 3pt shot. Look at the LSU tapes. Watch how many times MAR drives to the basket. No one could stop any of his 3 moves. With Curry, only his 3pt shot is LETHAL. Case closed, I can prove it. If the truth of video matters ...WATCH the tapes again This time, watch closely...lol

Aleks PlayZ. so could Mahmoud...that's not a slight on Curry, but I witnessed this guy (barely 6 ft) not only shoot the lights out from nearly anywhere on court, but play d and dunk on heads from high school (in Gulfport, MS) through his time at LSU. Look up what video is out there and listen to Shaq among others talk about what he could do-Definitely ahead of his time as a 'point-two'. The NBA schedule threw his medical routine off (he has tourette syndrome), but he was a truly dominant force teams game planned for even in the league.

If Chris Jackson did that to the 90s Bulls at their peak...Imagine what KD and Steph Curry would do to the Bulls. MJ and Scottie would be dumbfounded watching players shoot like that at such a high efficiency. Not saying Goldens tate wins but it would be a great match up to watch at the very least...Using a combination of 90s rules and today's rules.
