Asking the voice how many girls they’re talking to, instantly made me laugh cause I just knew where they were going with this.

I almost spit out my drink at the "you just gotta get them to ghost you, most voices are fuckboys" I also had voices for several years and I legitimately thought they were real people. For me a combination of therapy and cutting back on the zaza helped me put a stop to it. Be careful when you smoke the grass because of how potent it is now an days you can easily get hallucinations even if you're not actively high

Recent studies suggest that overuse of THC can "trigger" *symptoms* of mental health issues laying dormant (not the actual mental health issue, guys, just the symptoms) so check your family history for things like psychosis, bipolar, and schizophrenia ❤ If these run in your family and ya hit it too hard ya might feel the crawlies or hear stuff.

Can also happen if you do sleep, but don’t get enough quality sleep. If you’re not getting enough REM cycles (the stage of sleep when we dream), the important work your brain does during that cycle finds other times to happen. Think of hallucinations as dreams misplaced to times when you’re awake. This is also why people see things during sleep paralysis: your brain is still in REM and producing dream images while paralyzing the body to keep you from physically acting out the dream, but if your eyes are open, you see the images overlaid on the real world.

I have visual hallucinations when in the depths of really bad episodes. It was jarring to see “major depression with psychotic features” as the official diagnosis and just as jarring when I learned how common it is to have hallucinations/psychotic features because I don’t ever hear it talked about. Thanks for making this!

Had it happen a few years back, and I was extra concerned because I was sleeping well and relatively stress free. Oh, and schizophrenia runs in my family, of course. Thank god the voices haven't returned. Most memorably, I had one lady voice whisper to the other voices, "Shh... he'll hear us...", and I had another lady voice who was unexpectedly sweet and tender in singing 'You Really Got A Hold On Me' to me.

I have PTSD and I suffered with severe horrible mood congruent auditory hallucinations for almost 7 years. In the past two years I discovered that simply journalling, long hand for three pages each day helped release them. If I stay regular with my journalling practice each morning I get to go through my day with no auditory hallucinations and a sense of clarity. I hope this helps anyone who needs to hear it. There is hope.

I used to hear voices as a child. I remember very clearly hearing voices calling my name on several occasions and turning around to see who was calling me, but there was nobody there. Wherever I told my mom about it she would literally try to gaslight me into believing I didn’t hear anything. Like straight up "no you didn’t hear that" 🥲 I always wondered why I stopped hearing them once I grew up, but if abuse, trauma, and stress are contributing factors, then it definitely makes sense that they would stop after I moved away from my mom 😬

A lot of my main support structures are online, so when I was having some bonus depression and our rural place was a few days without power... visual hallucinations. But the symptom I was rocking was total numbness, and the creepies were literally creepypasta images. Like... hand-drawn. So it wasn't terrifying, it was just... part of my brain trying REALLY hard to get any kind of reaction, but... yeah, not happening. I just needed to wait. And now, we have a couple generators. Which is great, because I have a CPAP, and would like to continue not having my body strangle me in my sleep.

I remember when I moved out from my parents. I kept thinking more than once than my mum was calling me from out of my studio apartment from the main stairs... honestly freaked me out. Had to remind myself for a short while, that there was no way she was there. Almost certain it was mild trauma from living at home because I have ASD and I always felt I had to be on guard because my mum would just come and barge into my room for whatever, whether it be to scold me for staying in my room too long or just to clean. Don't know if that's an auditory hallucination or not. But I think I was so used to hearing her that my body just automatically tensed and I kept thinking I heard her whenever I heard a noise. Thankfully it's not there anymore. I still get that feeling at home sometimes when I visit. But I got a lock on the door now so I feel more secure.

Once my brother left home I was surprised my voice went away. I used to hear my family shouting my name when I was alone at home, this made me panic and lock me up in my room then notice no one arrived and then timidly getting out of my room. Now that my brother moved out when my mom or sister shout my name because they'd arrived I go to salute them the complete opposite. My voice was a mechanism of defense as a posttraumatic response, even if I was consciously relaxed singing and dancing my unconscious was always alert and knows my brother gets triggered at any moment and mostly when I'm more vulnerable so my unconscious found that hearing my family saying my name was enough to alert me. It sometimes had the opposite effect there were times I was so used to it I just completely ignored the screams but they were not always unconscious alarms, sometimes my mom really wanted me to go to her for something important and there I was doing whatever perhaps even just staring at the window while my mom was frustrated that I was ignoring her
