quinni (as an autistic teen girl) is the best actually canon autism representation i have EVER seen (especially for women)! and the fact that chloe hayden is autistic and has been on youtube talking about it for SO long makes it even better!

As an autistic person, I largely avoid consuming media that depicts autistic people because so often I find it almost voyeuristic in the way the subject is treated - so often do I find myself forced into the role of the non-autistic viewer, being confronted with how people who do not understand us perceive us, which is often as if we’re specimens to be analysed or animals in a zoo. This show, however, is the first time I feel I have ever in my life seen an autistic character portrayed by an autistic actor for an autistic audience (there are lots of little things that I think you might miss if you’re not autistic). Truly, it’s some of the best representation I’ve seen and I thank you so much for drawing my attention to it. I think it heals a little part of teenage me.

Okay. So Aussie here and I have to just chime in to say the noodles video is embarrassingly similar to a series of consent videos that the Australian government put out just before this series aired… except it was milkshakes. It was sooo “cringe” as the gen Zs would say and so so very full of misinformation and awful stereotypes. I’d love it if it was super old and things have changed but yikes it was recent (conservative govt) and painfully relevant to see in this show. Meanwhile… not everyone swears like these characters!! Great show tho :-)

This series made me not mind the c word as much anymore. They say it so much that it’s lost its power. The c word is much better than the f word (that rhymes with bag), the n word, the r word, and every other slur. Dusty is short for Dustin. But yeah… 🤷‍♀️. This is quite the chaotic show.

I've never been able to tolerate shows where people choosing to not communicate form the core story and drives the drama and narrative. Yes, so many people avoid conflict and are like this in real life, but it makes for cheap and lazy writing.
@blackk_rose_
@blackk_rose_ 10 ай бұрын
I think in Harper's case, it actually works because it makes sense. I don't want to spoil anything, but there are certain things people just can't talk about. Usually the trope is lazy writing because the reason is a misunderstanding and someone not getting the chance to explain themselves (such as a person witnessing a situation and completely misinterpreting it instead of actually having a conversation about it). But in Harper's case, it makes sense why she wouldn't talk to anyone, especially Amerie. Even though it would've solved so many problems.
@byunbaekhyun4010
@byunbaekhyun4010 9 ай бұрын
I agree. Nevermind what the other person said 🫰. Look, if you're going to use miscommunication as a major plot mover for your show, IT BETTER HAVE A POINT. Knowing the truth behind harper's actions was used as a gross justification of all, that she did. And absolutely NOTHING was resolved or acknowledged in light of said miscommunication, and its cause, coming to everybody's attention. It IS lazy writing because you introduce an element merely to cause drama and give it no other rippling effects, save for the fact that the show is leaning on a hail mary reason to get it out of the way when it's no longer needed. If these characters have been miscommunicating THE WHOLE SEASON and others have done recklessly selfish actions because of it, there better be a point. But no. In the end, the point was that amber was hurting and therefore everything should be okay now. Awful.
