New to your planner and love it already. My only disappointment was with inferior not-so-sticky notes being in a pile on the floor the morning after I put them up. *sigh* I bet you have a video about good ones somewhere, though, so I'll search your materials. Thanks for all you do!

@@BrendaScottlovescellosandcats she recommended the actual Post-it brand and for less-than-ideal surfaces (like my actual bedroom wall) the full stick ones. I put mine up the last week in December and haven't lost one yet!

I can tell you from experience, having your own land and room to move during this time is great for your mental health! I have 6 acres and being able to walk around on it and having gardens has been the best therapy for me. I hope you are able to relax and enjoy the peace you will get from it! It has been a great help to me in my writing, dreaming and goal setting.

I actually just had a goal come true today that I didn’t even know it was a goal that I could accomplish and I can’t believe it already happened in January, which is my birthday month, but I have been invited to be a guest writer on a blog, which I couldn’t be more happy about and I can’t wait for the blog to be up and running so I can be a part of her journey and help to inspire others!! I see your “normal” week as a “refilling the well” week. You’re still getting stuff done, but you are still allowing yourself a moment to breathe. I like this a lot-having the different types of weeks. Not every week will be a hardcore drafting week.

I struggled with being online too much as well. I felt addicted. My therapist told me to find a hobby or something I enjoy and DO NOT put it online.. Something away from the internet that I don't need electronics for at all. It helped so much.

This is my first time doing HB90 and I know I’m only 4 days in (plus all the prep I did ahead of time) but so far the system and the task blocks are working really well for me. I feel like I’m getting so much done but also still have room for the naps and hobbies and time with my husband that are an important part of my ideal life. I’d love to see more content on the task blocks. Thanks so much, Sarra!

I've never seen you as a "bad" person, and I'm better at assessing the unhealthy and healthy traits in others that I used to see in myself or people who pushed me into those habits. I'm sorry you went through all the bullying. It has to be rough, and I've feared that, as well. Seeing you push through, open up about your situation, and succeed even if you didn't accomplish your original goals is a cathartic breath of fresh air. If we aren't open about bullying or controlling behaviors, the bullies will win. That's part of what pushes me to write; can't let the abusers beat me. Confidence is my "word of the year." Confidence for me requires that I reduce chaos. I started using a Kanban board after seeing one of your videos last year. I have mental issues that cause me to forget easily, unless it's a creative idea that's played in my head like a movie for months to years. Part of my goals this year is to become more organized so I can find what I need, when I need it, and focus on a specific task each day. Otherwise, I go down the rabbit hole of rumination. Your thoughts on perfection are on-point! You're more than what you do. You're a collection of genes, environment, values, ideas, actions, connections, and more. If you spend all your time obsessing about a perfect platform, the content will suffer. The world doesn't need to know everything about you, everyone doesn't have to like you. Like yourself. Love yourself. You seem like an amazing and compassionate person who shares your issues, which helps others feel less alone. Seeing you struggle and persevere has helped me on days, weeks, or months when I couldn't write because of my depersonalization. Watching your videos and others like yours helped me recognize what I was doing right, so I could implement it and transmute my unhelpful habits into positive ones. Keep on truckin'! You got this! And just FYI, I'm graduating from my AFA this fall. I plan to purchase all your books as a reward for my hard work. :D

You should build yourself a writing cabin, a space just for you to work, seperate from the home and those responsibilities! That's my dream - to have enough space to have a while separate writing shed/cabin. I hope you have a wonderful 2022 and I can't wait for more videos! I'm doing 'reset' days every week now, or at least I'm going to try to. I'm hoping it'll be Sundays (but it ended up being yesterday after doing all the grocery shopping). I want to have at least one day a week that'll be dedicated to all the other things that would normally take my attention away and I got the idea from you!

Which I did get one of my character sheets just about done but I have to finish plotting the story before I do more. So excited to hear how they accepted your offer on the house you guys where looking at. Congratulations, that's awesome news. See you in the Coffee Chat tomorrow. Thank you for sharing Sarra. ah-ah moments from this videos : 1. every week doesn't have to have the same number of task blocks. I had set up an ideal week with time blocks and all but, while looking pretty and structured on paper, it ended up not working for me. Mind blown by this simple trick! 2. AKS points. Maybe that'll work for me too. 3. It's OK to change methods along the way. Thank you for sharing, Sarra.

Yay for the house! And as always, I am floored by your planning, I love watching you do this and how happy it makes you - and I get all excited to start into the (bare minimum) planning that is all my anxiety allows me. And I used to feel bad about it but now, watching you, you taught me that everyone is different and what is perfect for you doesn't have to be right for me. So I just enjoy your planning, watch your videos with enthusiasm, think about what I want - and then feel as if I have accomplished as much which makes me happy. Thank you for sharing!

One of my best discoveries of 2021 was happening upon your channels! I don't even go as hard planning out things like you do but they always inspire me to find new things to try and improve the ways I tackle my goals. I'm having a bit of a late start to '22 due to illness (not covid, just a wickedly awful head cold, blegh) but I'm on the mend and this video landed just in time for me to get in to gear! Those weekly schedule/time block breakdowns sound really interesting to me! (Count me as someone who would love a full video on it!) Also, just wanted to say that I always love the little tidbits I hear about your husband, I feel like most of the time (in real life and the internet) when I hear a woman talk about her male partner it's always about how unsupportive they are towards her goals or just in day-to-day life. I just love the concept of an AKS Score! So sweet! So much Couple Goals! Can't wait to see what you have in store for us this year, and good luck with the house!! (honestly, I can't wait to see you set up a new office!)

Have been doing several weeks of goal planning & life planning & feeling good about 2022. Loved your story about AKS score. When I was really struggling mentally & getting professional help my Sister was really upset to hear about the negative self talk to myself. Years (especially as a child & teen of being bullied & picked on & told I was not good enough, too this, too that), well it came back to bite big time in my 30's. My sister told me she is "her own best cheerleader", she gets up in the morning & tells herself how great the day will be, how successful she is etc. This resonated with me so much as I had NEVER said stuff like that to myself, just lots of judging & negative self talk, so I discussed this with my Psychologist, he thought it was an EXCELLENT strategy. I now have a code too, & I've used it for years, it's in my planners & journals & on my computer. Whenever I look at it, it's a little mental exercise to immediately give myself the boost - & it completely shuts off that negative self talk, it removes all power from self shame & instead empowers a positive mindset. I really enjoyed this long form & detailed format. And HB90 course is on my goals for March. Congrats on house, I will be sending out very positive vibes for you all on that huge milestone.

I kind of do this already. I usually have two weeks of writing and one week of admin, newsletters etc. I still have to do some admin stuff during the week, but I really try to focus two weeks on writing. One week is also plotting and if I can, I like to plot several stories at once. This works well for me. I really like the tasks blocks, but the planner I'm using doesn't have time slots. Hmmm...I think I'm going to get one of your planners and use two. Congratulations on the new house. You deserve a fabulous year in 2022. Love your videos. Keep up the excellent work.

I can open up those blocks to more hours after he goes back out. The 21 days he is gone are my power days. I have 3 goal teas. Writing/ Etsy/ Stamping business. The last is on a test basis. Hi Sarra! I have discovered a book that would be extremely helpful for you and others in our community. It’s called Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers. It is absolutely fantastic when it comes to facing your biggest and smallest fears in life and smashing your goals. Whatever is holding you back in your life, you can push through it and just do it. I hope it can help you - especially with your self-care goals - but of course it will then help with every other aspect of your life. I’ve just started reading it and can’t wait to try all the interesting exercises in there.

First week of Q1 and I’m off track already. Had this week planned out but had to reconcile my husband’s business accounts. It’s become an “oh, well” week. It is what it is. I hope to finish reconciling the accounts by this weekend so I can get back to working on my book next week with a fresh attitude and start.

Yay for a new house! I'll try not to be envious of your 5 acres - to get that much space over here in the UK, you'd have to either have a ton of cash or live in the middle of nowhere with lousy internet, so I'll have to make do with my pocket handkerchief of a garden 😀

Hi, Sara, I love using your systems. I have already set my writing goals for the year and broken them down into four quarters, inspired by your system. I already know I am publishing two books this year, as they are under contract, but I also want to write three more first drafts so I'm ahead for next year. I always work on three projects at the same time, three hours of work a day, five days a week. One in the first draft, one in the second, one I'm editing for my publisher. I leave my weekends free in case I have a deadline emergency but I also like that time with my family. Thanks to your system I will plot all three new books in the first quarter. then start each new book, at the beginning of the next three quarters. I love that you are making sure you are taking downtime. My word for the year is also self-care. I find as long as I keep to a 4-hour workday (three for writing one for my business) I have the balance I need for my mental and physical health. Thank you for always being such an inspiration. Happy writing!

I really struggle with being reliable due to chronic health issues. Things have improved greatly over the last year but I know I have to really make sure I reign in how ambitious my goals are. I almost always over estimate what I can actually do and how I actually use my time. Using the Preptober workbook allowed me to win Nano for the first time in 2021(!), and so I'm super excited to have done my 2022 Writing Plan. My goals feel ambitious but doable in a best case scenario. But any extra tips on making realistic and honest schedules would be appreciated! I work in sprints normally as well but I find I can 'take a quick break' and get sucked into something else for awhile. Still trying to figure out if I need to give myself longer breaks, or just find ways to weed out distractions.

Sarra, Happy New Year! Have you thought about having "office hours?" To let everyone know you'll be answering emails / facebook posts, etc., during these hours? That may help you feel like you don't have to be "on" 24/7. Just a thought!

Hi Sarra, you work so hard and you're such an inspiration. I've been struggling with writer's block since I had a disappointing traditional publishing experience. Do you have any advice?
@HeartBreathings
@HeartBreathings 2 жыл бұрын
It's so difficult when criticism or experience messes with your joy and ability to write. This is a great topic for a future video, so I'll ad it to my list. For now, though, my biggest advice is to try to get back to the fun and put any ideas of publishing or other people reading your work out of your mind until you start to love it again. Is there any story that's been calling to you? Something fuN?

@@HeartBreathings cool. I thought it was the iPhone one I’ve heard is really good. It looks great! By the way, I love the batching weeks plan. You made me think that I used to that and it works wonder for me. I stopped doing it after I realized there is so much I need to do. But I will try it again this quarter, I think it would have a good impact on my productivity. Thanks for sharing!!

Sarra, I'm wondering if once you get into this batching thing, you'll find it's too far spread apart and unbalanced. Kinda like trying to eat healtheir and deciding to eat only vegetables on Week 1, only meats on Week 2, and only dairy on Week 3. By the middle of Week 2 you'd be bound up and wishing you could drink some milk. :) It seems like assigning certain double-days for those things, rather than weeks, would be more balanced, and would keep you from feeling like you were getting too "behind" on the other things you're not currently doing. (The thought of only attending to "admin" stuff every three weeks seems...scary, to me at least. Lots of anxiety just considering it. All the stuff that would be piling up and the resulting mountain that would be waiting on that admin week...eek.) So like admin on Mon+Tues, writing on Wed+Thur, videos on Fri+Sat. Or even triple days: admin on MTW, writing on RFS, then vids on the following MTW and cycle it around. Anyhooo, it's just something to consider. I hope you find a method that works out for you, I hope you give yourself grace to toss it out and try something different if you realize it's not working, and I hope everything with the house contract goes smoothly!
@HeartBreathings
@HeartBreathings 2 жыл бұрын
There's admin every week! That's in blue as "recurring tasks". The "normal "weeks are just the bigger type tasks of admin like affiliate payments and bigger projects. I have tried the theme days or batch days and it wasn't working great for me, so I'm trying something new!
@HeartBreathings
@HeartBreathings 2 жыл бұрын
Also as a side note, it's not a full 3 week rotation. Out of 13 weeks, I have 2 batching weeks, 3 drafting weeks and the rest are "normal". I can do an extra video on it if i'ts confusing!

@@HeartBreathings what Carrie said had me nodding my head, but now that you've clarified it does seem like it'll be pretty balanced for you :) Good luck! I'm going to see if I can try something similar myself. I'm also in need of the task block method vs. just going by 'days' in my quarterly plan.

Last year I started implementing on my "bad" days a momentum building process. If I was struggling to just get up off my chair, I'd set 3 things that I could do from my chair or around my chair, ie study italian, check email, make a grocery list. When those three tasks are done (no matter how long it too) then I give myself 3 new things and so on and so forth. I found that even if I could only get 4 or 5 things done I still felt like I accomplished something. I'm glad you found a house you like and fingers crossed with all the closing minutiae that always takes up so much energy. My husband and I moved our family to NKY last year and as much as we miss NYC (well NYC circa 2017) we love our new home. I set up my goals and helped a friend set up his goals for 2022 the second to the last week in December and then I made a spreadsheet for him and for me in Google sheets to help keep track. I haven't set all my Q1 tasks even though I'm already working on a lot of the projects. My friend is having a harder time. He's trying to edit a peer-reviewed article that, once he's done, will be in a journal.
