In this video, Grant shares tips on heavy bag training and shows you how to avoid common mistakes.
Heavy bag training is a fantastic way to burn calories, build muscle and power, and improve your technique. Like any form of exercise, however, proper heavy bag training can benefit from good coaching and practice. Getting this wrong can reinforce bad habits or, worse, lead to injury.
Let us know in the comments what your best tips for smart heavy bag training are!
Thanks, gang!

Great video! Honestly, the first good bagwork video I've seen that actually explains all the different mental and physical zones of training used on the bag. So many kickboxing gyms I've gone to that just don't understand basic bagwork and they just teach people to wail on them and burn themselves out. The bag has so many uses but people dont think they just follow what they know or see. The hardest part about bag work for me, is foot work around an unmoving object. I just feel awkward as hell practicing my triangulation and counter strikes on bob because he's so lifeless.

I would also mention that the endurance you cultivate towards striking does not transfer over well to grappling or submissions work. If striking feels like a calisthenics session, grappling feels like endurance swimming. cultivating these different types of stamina is very useful for MMA training.

Thanks for the great video. I bought the book "Functional Training and Beyond" and I've started reading it. I'm a big fan of the KZfaq channel The Bioneer. I'm wondering if a video could be made on Human Longevity that includes the right exercise program and the right diet program? A video on how anyone can live as long as possible, I would think using joint friendly exercises to strengthen the cardiorespiratory system, muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones as well as I would think following a plant-based diet. I think on record, the oldest person to have ever lived was a woman from France that made it until 122 years old. Would it be possible to live longer? Thank you for all the hard work to bring us a lot of useful information.

@@SessleIsosceles he might be influenced by people who are saying wing Chun doesn't work. Although a lot of the techniques are pretty difficult to apply realistically, some of them hold a lot of value and it's certainly worth dabbling in to see what you can make work. @@ryanpayton3812 totally agreed, I have been trained in wing chun for 10 years, now I'm getting into full time boxing, I am finding they compliment each other beautifully, application is only limited by one's understanding of the movements , my wing chun isn't broken and nor would I consider boxing trying to fix it, martial arts all share a commonality that enhances you as a artist !

Yes intensity and power r not the same thing. People get confused... Bagwork is very specific Got to be careful with bagwork And padwork you can develop bas habits With bagwork your hitting a target But no one is punching back.. Padwork.. You have someone throwing punches at u. But its not the same as sparring.. U no the person is going to try to hit u at some point. It becomes like a 2 person kata And bcomes removed from fighting So you have to have specific objectives for padwork Like speed accuracy etc Going hard on bags pads etc has a time and place though

I am curious about a few things. What is an effective way to front kick a bag? I worked out the other kicks through trial and error, but front kicks either barely connect or make the bag flop all over the place. Should I wear shoes (and gloves for that matter)? I kind or prefer the feedback of bare feet, but it really, really sucks in the winter, or when you misfire a kick.

I would love a video on how to hold pads and hit pads, also when starting out is it better to just practice the martial art/sport for conditioning until you develop consistency for 30-90day then add in other training modalities or should I start trying to follow a modified pro athletes plan?
@maxhooymans3751
@maxhooymans3751 3 жыл бұрын
Personally I think its better to practice the actual sport for however long you need to until you feel comfortable enough to start learning the more complicated things and you don't want to overwhelm yourself by doing a pro athletes routine. I have been doing boxing for about 4-5 years and when I first started I spent a lot of time working on conditioning and technique before getting into the complicated stuff. Also if you are just starting out on the pads make sure to completely focus on technique and accuracy instead of power.
