This video shows two different methods for lifting and removing old rail track panels at Serbian railways main lines. First method shows Russian technology for lifting and removing old track panels. Second method is a combination of using several different machines in order to achieve the same.
The first method:
from 0:00 to 10:43 and from 17:06 to the end;
The second method:
from 10:43 to 17:06
On several sections of old railway lines, as part of the railway reconstruction projects, some parts of the old railway track have to be removed. To be removed the old track had to cut into parts, up to 25m length. In this video, each part of old rail track is track panel of about 22.5m long. It has about 38 sleepers, rails type UIC 49 and have a mass of about 12 tons.
These works are performed at Serbian railways as a part of the reconstruction of Belgrade - Novi Sad - Subotica railway line. Part of the works on the section between Stara Pazova and Novi Sad is performed by the company of Russian Railways. Russian technology uses a large rail crane for rail track panels lifting and Russian Railways vehicles for rail track panels transporting.
Another method shows reconstruction works at one section of the Belgrade railway junction. To be lifted and carried away the old track, it's used combination of some heavy rail machines. Excavator is used for moving the track to achieve enough space for making a crane path. Another excavator is creating a crane path of two rails outside the existing old railway track. Upon completion of the crane path, a special crane is used for lifting the old track. These works include the Bulgarian locomotive (Romanian manufacturer), Romanian wagons, some Austrian heavy rail machinery, works are performed by Serbian workers and this reconstruction of Serbian railways is done under the leadership of a Chinese company...
Old track panels are usually transported to old, local railway lines all over Serbian railways that will be reconstructed using these panels.
Transporting of old rail panels:
from 22:31 to the video end.
Dates of recordings:
January 2018. and February 2019.

Thanks for following the construction too, Slovenia is also reconstructing a lot of railway tracks, it's quite old and terrible here but things are finally started moving these 2 years and this year is the biggest the whole network half closed for months at a time.

I've just been to Slovenia and the railways there are great! Old, terrible? It took no time to get from Hodos to Ljubljana, even though the train had already been delayed in Hungary. The speed is great, there is no noise, and given the difficult mountainous terrain, there is no way it could get better. In Romania, the distance from Hodos to Ljubljana takes 30 more minutes to cover, even though there are 3 times fewer stops and the railway is only across the plain, no hills, no mountains, nothing difficult. Plus, the Slovenian trains are wonderfully comfortable (the wagons, not the Desiros), and clean and well kept. I wish I saw such great trains in Romania but aside a few private operators and a few state run trains, the others are terrible (even though 3 years ago things were much, much better).

How many miles/km per day of old track can they remove. Looks very efficient. Wish they would replace more of our (USA) track that has wooden ties with the concrete ties. Our infrastructure is pathetic. They just keep replacing the wooden ties with new wooden ties.
@dulevoz
@dulevoz 5 жыл бұрын
In this case they are removing cca 1km per day. It could be much more efficient if they do not use only one train for transportation of old rail panels. Here, a new double track line will be built, instead of this single track line and it will have concrete sleepers.

I work for the railroad, I'll explain. In America the railroads are private property so the owners choose how to maintain them a hardwood tie here in WA State is around $60 versus $100 for a concrete tie. If we're just maintaining a track why would we spend that much on ties? Honestly it's just a basic economics game here.

I know the passenger traffic from Novi Sad to Belgrade is cancelled for quite some time now, why don't they introduce trains to Novi Sad / Subotica via Pančevo - Kačarevo - Titel instead? So passengers could still use one train from beginning until the end of the journey, not take buses or other cars...
@dulevoz
@dulevoz 5 жыл бұрын
The main reasons are very bad infrastructure condition at railway lines between Pancevo and Novi Sad via Kacarevo, Orlovat, Titel and very long traveling times (the shortest traveling time is 6 hours of continuous driving from Pancevo to Novi Sad and freight trains usually travel 10 to 12h). There would be no point in sending passenger trains.

At some sections the new line will be built, on other the old line will be modernized. Currently, the line isn't in use.

Reminds me to much when the RR let the line through my town go to hell so they could justify tearing it up! But then the RR only had themselves to blame when trucks moved the frieght much more efficiently and customers didn't need to stock such a heavy supply.
