Norwegian here, I have met the female vocalist Maria a few times and can probably shed some light: This song is composed of the female lyrics, which are from the Eggja stone found in Norway, inscribed around the time of the fall of the Roman empire, and the english parts are the bands interpretation of the runes on that stone. It's a story of being forced into a conflict you don't want, but also determination to make damn sure you win that conflict. And also, Wardruna - Helvegen. Find a video with english lyrics as well, so you understand. There's power in music like this. And then Ivar Bjørnson & Einar Selvik - Kvervandi. All of this music is expressing the original, north european/nordic culture, the spiritual beliefs and convictions of the Goths, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, Langobardi, Vandals, The Rus and all the other people who shared a common language and similiar belief system before Empire came disguised as Christianity.

Per wiki: Heilung is an experimental folk band of members from Denmark, Norway, and Germany.[1] They do music based on texts of original artifacts from the Iron Age and the Viking Age. They describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe".[Heilung means "healing" in German. Heilung is under contract at the label Season of Mist.

The 'rap'like duel: What am I supposed to do If I want to talk about peace and understanding But you only understand the language of the sword What if I want to make you understand that the path you chose leads to downfall But you only understand the language of the sword What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace But you only understand the language of the sword I let the blade do the talking... So my tongue shall become iron And my words the mighty roar of war Revealing my divine anger´s arrow shall strike All action for the good of all I see my reflection in your eyes But my new age has just begun The sword is soft In the fire of the furnace It hungers to be hit And wants to have a hundred sisters In the coldest state of their existence They may dance the maddest In the morass of the red rain Beloved brother enemy I sing my sword song for you The lullaby of obliteration So I can wake up with a smile And bliss in my heart And bliss in my heart And bliss in my heart Coexistence, Conflict, combat Devastation, regeneration, transformation That is the best I can do for you I see a grey gloom on the horizon That promises a powerful sun to rise To melt away all moons It will make the old fires of purification Look like dying embers Look like dying embers Look like dying embers

That "rap" duel wasnt rap at all. Its chanting. Allegedly the Germanic peoples of antiquity would often "sing" in a manner similar to this, particularly at the height of a ceremony when the psychoactives kicked in. Its one of the primary reasons the Romans and many other foreigners who met these people thought they were either possessed by demons, half animal(The word "Barbarian" supposedly has some root in the meaning "men who wear the skins of animals") or just batshit crazy, and its one of the reasons the Romans were afraid of them.

FYI, they're somewhat more than just German and Norwegian. Danish musicians are also part of the experience. The language is proto norse. A late germanic dialect hailing from the late iron age to the early viking age. Which is by far, an almost completely dead language. It has zero resemblance with modern day Scandinavian or German languages. There is only one place left where a language similar to this exists. Iceland.

I first saw the Heilung video a few weeks ago and was immediately transfixed. The music has a visceral affect and then factor in the visual appearance of the performers. I found myself transported to a smoke filled building in the midst of a Goddess ritual. I am pagan so that probably helped. :) If you go to the video's page itself there are some excellent comments with info on the probable sources/origins of the music. There are translations of the lyrics and historical information about music like this that has survived centuries. All that discovery the result of seeing the video in You Tube's "recomended for you" algorithm.

Everybody connects this to Vikings at first, because it contains a lot of that "norse" spirit and the Vikings are like the pop stars. But I would rather sort it as native european or Germanic. Before the Roman Empire came and changed everything. Including the spirituality of the continent. The Vikings where the last line of defense against that "Western" spirit. Ancient music, older than Christianity even and native, not imported. I think it´s the drums that speak to something old in us. It´s like a heathen ceremony. And I love it :D To make a little more sense of that particular song, I dare you to watch the official video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gZ2KpL2H2tSnkmg.html

Sooo Castlefest is a renaissance fair/cosplay/music event in Holland. And Heilung is a side project of two members of the band Euzen and their friend a poet/tattoo artist. Significantly heilung means healing in German and that is what this is supposed to be; we're in a forest in the summer listening to music, eating food, performing a ritual burning of the wickerman enjoying being with friends. Then everyone quiets down and sits on the floor. It's gone dark, the birds you hear are actual birds in the trees, fires are burning all around and then this "music" happens and keeps happening. After 5 minutes or 5 hours (I'm not really sure) you wake up from this trance and you feel moved. This is not supposed to be pretty or light or easy, it's primal.

Ok, so Heilung is a German word, which means healing. The band itself is an international band with members from Denmark, Norway & Germany. They chose that name because "The listener is supposed to be left at ease and in a relaxed state after a magical musical journey that is at times turbulent". Heilung brings music based on artefacts dating from the Norhern European Iron Age and Viking age. They call the music "amplified history". The chorus of Krigsgaldr is based on a poem from a gravestone found in Norway in 1917, so it's old Norse. But because the poem is only partially preserved, they made a phonetical version of the 2nd panel (they found 3 on the site). Researchers think it's related to a funeral. The poem should ensure safe passage to the afterlife.

Please try "Hamrer Hippyer" at Lifa from Heilung. Its a very long song but it is sooo great. It sounds like You will summon demons, but is based on a healing chant in old high German from the 9th or 10th century called "Merseburg Charms" The more You hear it , the more You will be addicted :)

This band is *AMAZING* They use various Germanic languages including German, Porto-German, Old English, Old Norse, Modern English, and maybe one or two others. Could you guy watch and breakdown their song “alfadhirhaiti”??? (Names of the Allfather). Allfather being Odin or Wotan.

I am glad that you give this extremely exceptional Nordic group a chance. I tell you a little about its history. The group, which are two boys and one girl, have Norwegian, Danish and German nationality and uses instruments such as horns of different animals, drums, human bones, rattles with human ashes, bells, stones, all to go back to the first musical compositions that They were able to interpret 10,000 years ago, in the iron age in northern Europe. All the letters are taken from carved gadgets from the era of the Nordic iron, such as arrowheads, bows, swords, rune stones and recite poems and psalms of war, peace and protection. Whereupon and for this, heilung, which means healing in German, is in close collaboration with archaeologists specializing in the field. The languages used by heilung are several. Among them are Latin, Old Danish, German and English. They were so successful with their first album that they had to release a new live album, which includes 2 new songs. Also a video of that album live and this year they released their second work, futha, which is a much more feminine work. His first album, Ofnir, is much more aggressive and masculine. During the concerts some representations of how these ancient rituals of the iron age could be made. Also just finished the soundtrack of the video game Hellblade 2. I hope this review helps you to understand a bit the context of this musical group. I recommend this video of her concert.

You're about 8000 years off... and for some of their songs even 9000. They are inspired by the Norse and proto-Germanic era, so we're talking about approx 500-1300 AD

Krigsgaldr is but one section of what is for me a very spiritual journey, and to get the full effect you really do need to shut yourself off from the world and listen to the whole of the LIFA concert. Heilung's music is all about feeling, it will take you to very uncomfortable places at times, but will ultimately leave you at peace, and will stay with you long after the last drum beat stops resonating.

SONGTEXT: Krigsgaldr Min Warb Naseu Wilr Made Thaim I Bormotha Hauni Hu War Hu War Opkam Har a Hit Lot Got Nafiskr Orf Auim Suimade Foki Afa Galande What am I supposed to do If I want to talk about peace and understanding But you only understand the language of the sword What if I want to make you understand that the path you chose leads to downfall. But you only understand the language of the sword What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace. But you only understand the language of the sword I let the blade do the talking... So my tongue shall become iron And my words the mighty roar of war. Revealing my divine anger´s arrow shall strike All action for the good of all I see my reflection in your eyes But my new age has just begun. The sword is soft In the fire of the furnace It hungers to be hit And wants to have a hundred sisters In the coldest state of their existence They may dance the maddest In the morass of the red rain. Beloved brother enemy I sing my sword song for you The lullaby of obliteration So I can wake up with a smile' And bliss in my heart And bliss in my heart And bliss in my heart Coexistence, Conflict, combat Devastation, regeneration, transformation That is the best I can do for you' I see a grey gloom on the horizon That promises a powerful sun to rise To melt away all moons It will make the old fires of purification. Look like dying embers Look like dying embers Look like dying embers Min Warb Naseu Wilr Made Thaim I Bormotha Hauni Hu War Hu War Opkam Har a Hit Lot Got Nafiskr Orf Auim Suimade Foki Afa Galande Hu War Hu War Opkam Har a Hit Lot Ylir Men Aero Their Era Mela Os ----------- lyricstranslate.com/de/request/krigsgaldr-0

#PainInTheAsk Please react to *Dead Can Dance - 'Rakim'* . They are a similar style band but with a world music feel. The lead female singer of this band is famous for adding her vocals to movie soundtracks, most famously "Now We are Free" from the Gladiator soundtrack. The Hammered Dulcimer played at the beginning of the track is also played by the female vocalist, Lisa Gerrard. One of my favorite bands, always spine tingling.

The people of the Germanic, Danes, Finns, Sweds, Norwegians (Vikings). Their whole mantra was leave me be and we will not destroy you, your families, towns and way of life. They were violent but in a pure way, you didn't have to guess what would happen if you attack them. Also if they knew you were weak they would just destroy you and take what you had. You should also listen to Wardruna a band with similar styles
