This song is based on the Norwegian Runic Poem, which, as in the Icelandic Runic Poem, names all the runes of the young futhark accompanied by a stanza alluding to the name of each of the runes. There is also a third Runic Poem: the Anglo-Saxon. Runic poems are believed to have served as a mnemonic tool for remembering the names of the runes and their order in the alphabet. It is an important compilation of popular culture of the time, comparable to old English sayings, Gnomonic poetry, and Old Norse poetry. The Norwegian runic poem, written in Old Norse, has been preserved in a 17th century copy of a destroyed 13th century manuscript. This poem appears in skaldic meter. And it has the following structure: The first line of each stanza is a phrase of the following type: "name of the rune + copula + X", where X is an attribute to the name of the rune, followed by a second rhymed line that provides some information somehow related to the previous sentence. In this poem and in Icelandic, all the runes of the young futhark appear in the same order. The names of the 16 runes and their order is as follows: Fé, Úr, Þurs, Óss, Ræið, Kaun, Hagall, Nauðr, Ís, Ár, Sól, Týr, Bjarkan, Maðr, Lögr, Ýr ᚠ - Wealth causes dispute between relatives. The wolf inhabits the forest. ᚢ - All dross comes from bad iron. Reindeer often run on frozen snow. ᚦ - A troll causes disease in women. Few men find joy in misfortune. ᚬ - The end of the river is the path for most trips. And a scabbard is the fate of swords. ᚱ - It is said that riding is the worst for the horse. Reginn forged the best sword. ᚴ - The ulcer is a curse for children. Death makes a man pale. ᚼ - Hail is the coldest grain. Kristr created the world of yesteryear. ᚾ - Anguish leaves little choice. A naked man is chilled by frost. ᛁ - Ice we call a wide bridge. A blind man needs guidance. ᛅ - Abundance is a blessing to men. I say that Fróde was generous. ᛋ - The sun is the light of the world. I bow down to all that is sacred. ᛏ - Tyr is a one-handed god. Often a blacksmith must forge. ᛒ - A birch has the greenest leaves. Loki forged times of deception. ᛘ - Man is the product of dust. Strong is the claw of a hawk. ᛚ - A waterfall is a river that falls from the mountain. All treasures are gold. ᛦ - Yew is the greenest of winter trees. It tends to crunch when burned. Male voice lyrics are names and words from German, Danish, Norwegian and Finnish (still unconfirmed). Uunia runus sigurd. Fähig ani regina gunda.

Heilung is great. It’s music based on texts from the Bronze Age to the Viking age. They call it amplified history. You must see their first live show: LIFA live at Castlefest. From that concert: In Maidjan Krigsgaldir Othan Hamrer hippyer They perform a shamanic ritual here, where the shamen first eats a magic mushroom to get in a trance.

You nailed it my friend… Heilung represents the idea that we are all in a different place, yet all our hearts beat together. Remember that we are all brothers… All people, beast, trees, stone & wind… We all descend from the one great being… That was always there, before people lived & named it… Before the first seed sprouted… HEILUNG I was blessed to go see their ceremony in San Francisco last summer, can’t put into words how life changing their music is. It touched my soul a few yrs back when I was sent their first performance in 2017… I still listen to it daily so loud my windows rattle while doing my spiritual practice of yoga/moving meditation. It grabs a heart like no other, deeply roots & centers the soul. Would love to see your reaction to In Maidjan ♥️

They are from Norway, Denmark and Germany. Their music and lyrics are based on the ancient music and languages of the people who lived in the very far north of those countries. Interesting stuff. Great reaction Ellis!!

Northern Europe in the broader sense. Some Germanic tribes even migrated as far as the Balkans, the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa. Why do people always think only of Norway? (cf. nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanen#/media/Bestand:Germanic_Groups_ca._0CE.jpg ) Moreover, no musical scores have survived from that time. So it cannot be said that their music is based on ancient music. They have only text fragments and few texts commenting the music of that time. The rest is pure fantasy how music might have sounded.

I am merely repeating what Heilung have said about themselves. They have other influences and use non Nordic instrumentation as well. They are very complex so I only touched on the highlights. Perhaps if you do some research it will put your mind at ease. Have a great day!

@@donnelson6694 I highly doubt they said it that way. But you are welcome to link me a quote. And even if they had said it exactly like that, it would still be wrong. On what topic exactly are you suggesting I do research?

@@yasminesteinbauer8565 Video Interview - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oKhkidenrMDWm6c.html (Conqueror’s Blade): Could you tell us about the different styles you employ when making songs? Heilung: Whenever it comes to the etheric female singing, that will be Maria. She will employ everything from harmonies to the old Scandinavian cattle calls, from sweet whispers to heart-breaking screams of pain and anguish. - 'SOURCE' conqblade.com/en/news/827-music-week-interview-with-heilung (My Heiðinn Life): Alright. First of all, I noticed many of us who watched Lifa’s concert got curious about the creative process in general. Where did the core idea come from? How much of that is based on historical records, and how much was added by yours and the other member’s inspiration? Christoper Juul: It actually started as a poetic project between Kai [Uwe Faust] and I. I’m the owner of Lava Studios in Copenhagen, which mostly deals with Nordic traditional music but also with world music. Kai is the owner of Kunsten på Kroppen, a tattoo studio that deals with Nordic symbolism and hand-poked techniques. We both met at a Viking [reenactment] market in Scandinavia. Everything we do is either directly from the source or inspired by real events.) - 'SOURCE' medium.com/my-heidinn-life/an-interview-with-christopher-juul-ee08ad91099b There is a start for you. It's music. All that really matters is whether you like it or not, and how it makes you feel. You seem to want to argue. I don't. Feel free to research Heilung if you wish. They were the ONLY subject of my comment. I think I'll listen to some more music. Just listen and enjoy. I do really hope you have a great day.

@@donnelson6694 Well, in none of your quotes do they claim that their music is based on "ancient music" or exclusively from the "very far north". I already know Heilung and don't need to research them. If you just like the music then just write that you like the music. But when people start giving out false information, such as that it is traditional music, etc., I have to disagree. And of course I like the music otherwise I wouldn't be here. Have a great day too!

I first discovered throat singing when I bought a CD from Tuva in 2004 and I came across of a documentary about Tuva region and they started to be quite popular at that time. Bretons were war painting themselves in blue and were all naked while fighting. It's an interesting reading in the Caesar's diaries. But at the same time I've read Mahabharata and Ramayana and the gods were painted in blue. It's so fascinating how different cultures have lots of things in common. By the way do you know the slovak music instrument "fujara" - it's part of UNESCO heritage and it has this beautiful deep longing sound and lot of people in new age music are using it.

I actually quite liked this reaction. What Heilung does is a bit out of the scope of consciousness of some people, simply because they’re not tuned into the power of the voices of the ancestors. And if that sounds woo woo, well, idk what to tell you lol. I think their musical composition is brilliant here (I’m a classically trained violinist so I’m not totally without any formal musical training 😉) and I actually think you absolutely nailed it when you said “it’s like they’re in one place, but also in another place at the same time” (paraphrasing). This adds to that feeling of being transported, of walking amongst ancient stones and maybe being in two places in time at once. I also liked what you said about cultures accumulating different bits and pieces, but I’d also like to point out that shamanism was HUGE in pre Christian Nordic culture and that’s a big part of why so many people recognize the Native American elements in these pieces, there’s a lot of overlap. May I suggest that you listen to this again off camera and just let yourself be immersed in it?

Reaction is defined: an action performed or a feeling experienced in response to a situation or event. Analysis is defined: examine methodically and in detail the constitution or structure of something, typically for purposes of explanation and interpretation. If you're going to do both, please put it in the title?
