This was a great era for Star Wars games. We had this, Republic Commando, Battlefront II, and LEGO Star Wars all within two years or so of each other. What a time.

The entire Skywalker saga would never have happened without R2, let alone the mission at the start of RotS. If he hadn't been on the Queen's ship when they fled Naboo they would've been shot down or captured. R2 is the lynchpin of the entire saga.

Fun/horrific fact about R2D2 and other Star Wars droids: he likely wasn't programmed to feel pain initially, but the longer a droid goes without a memory wipe the more likely they are to devlop sentience and sapience.

Obi-wan in this game is voiced by James Arnold Taylor (voice of Tidus from FFX and Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank), who voices Obi-wan in the CGI Clone Wars series as well as almost every other Star Wars animated series and video game.

God this just unlocked a childhood memory. I used to play this game all the time. Was always sad though because I never had a friend or family member to play the VS mode with so I just played as Vader by myself lmao

I am kinda bummed out by the fact that Count Dooku doesn’t get anywhere near the credit he deserves from the Star Wars community. Everyone too busy with Vader and Maul, even thou Dooku surpasses Maul in pretty much every category but Appearance. He is the only apprentice of Sidious that mastered Force Lightning, was able to be a Challenge to Yoda, pretty much was the catalyst for the Clone Wars and not to mention, manages to make a Fencing style look badass in a world where a Demon looking guy is swinging a double saber around.

For why Grievous coughs all the time, iirc in the Genndy Tartakovsky "Clone Wars", Mace Windu Force-crushes his ribcage.

Not many people know this but Grievous was trained in the Jedi arts by count DooooOOku.

The coughing is explained in the Gendy Tartakosvy Clone Wars animated series that aired on Cartoon Network, its place in the timeline is RIGHT BEFORE the opening of Revenge of the Sith

As for why Grievous is coughing, that's because Mace Windu crushed his chest in the Genndy Tardikovski Clone Wars series.

We see Mace Windu crush General Grievous's chestplate in the 2003 Clone Wars series (which damaged his organs and what causes his distinctive coughing).

The reason why General Grievous is coughing in the movie is shown in the animated miniseries that came out before the movie that introduced him. Probably the best villain intro in Star Wars history where he literally destroys an entire Jedi team solo. The reason for his coughing is at the end of the series Samuel L Jackson’s character crushed his internal organs as he was escaping, meaning the Grievous we fight Obi-One was badly wounded already. Man the mid-2000s really had some awesome movie licensed games. Godfather, Scarface, The Warriors, and of course the Star Wars and Bond games from around this time. Miss the days of movie games actually being very good haha

Both this game and the gba/ds version were surprisingly great action games.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (the gamecube game) might be worth a look. It's primarily a vehicle game that centers around Anikin's "chosen one" status being that he is destined to destroy a big dumb life sucking machine that Dooku makes. (I'm sure they ran that by the higher ups to make sure that's ok with canon)

This game gave Anakin a proper duel vs Mace Windu and battle vs Jedi instead just killing younglings. 👏

This game is great. We need a port, like they did with Republic Commando. I loved that they used the voice cast from the Clone Wars cartoon (the one by Genndy Tartakovsky). I loved the battles at the end of Attack of the Clones. Lot of droid bashing in Republic Commando, they call them "clankers" a lot.

That Jango Fett game was pretty cool. STAR WARS: BOUNTY HUNTER. You basically did DMC-style jumping through the air firing two guns at the same time but with a jetpack.

This game did come out before the movie. I was able to preorder it at EB Games (RIP) with the players guide. I rushed through the game and then saw the movie. Its Interesting because in order to avoid spoilers the kinda altered key scenes from what I remember.

The battle droids have beaten plenty of people, but mainly in the Clone Wars CG show. And only by overwhelming force, as designed. They certainly aren't gonna take anyone by skill. Ima-Gun Di was a notable takedown by battle droids, though with a name like that (pronounced "I'mma gon' die"), his death was inevitable.

I feel so validated knowing that I'm not the only one who appreciates General Grievous.

The GBA game for Revenge of the Sith is decent too. It eventually lead to some the team making Scott Pilgrim which then lead them to making Shredder's Revenge.

The combat animations in this game are really nice. I'm guessing by this point in PS2's life developers were so familiar with the hardware that they could squeeze every bit of power out of it. Some of the late NES and SNES games were like that too.

There's a great video about why Battledriods specifically are often made a joke, especially when it's comparison to the Clones who have their characters humanizesd. You can check out Solar Sand's video. The one time that Star Wars focuses on druids is in a spin - off (Solo: Star Wars Story) and it's played as a joke. Which I think in-hindsight is pretty funny. I would love to see a droid story in lieu of Her, Ex Machina and Blade Runner and 2049.

This only came out a week or two before the movie, but the original Lego Star Wars had already been out for a full month by then and spoiled a big chunk of the plot. At least with the latter you could just not play the Episode III section until after you saw the movie, that’s what I did.

I remember trying to get this game on day 1, and it was out almost everywhere. So I decided to check toys R us for the hell of it and they had a bunch of copies left. Was always my fallback location till they closed down. I thought it was a decent game.
