In this video, he asked the question, then Tyler talks for 90% of the time and that's it. Pastor Jeff could comment back but he didn't. Pastor Jeff did give some small hints of areas that would have been in disagreement with LDS teachings but he was so subtle, most didn't realize it. Did you recognize those differences?

The Book of Mormon is a testament of Jesus Christ. Pastor Jeff doesn't see that the Trinity is a theory of the Apostate Churches, hundreds of years after the resurrection of our Savior. The Trinity is what Pastor Jeff hangs his hat on to invalidate The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

I took 4 classes from Bro Griffin at BYU! One of the greatest teachers I have ever had the privilege to learn from in my life!

I was studying the Cumorah question the other day and found that if you only look at the Book of Mormon to guide you on the location of Cumorah there is no reason that the real Cumorah described in Mormon should be linked to the place called Hill Cumorah in NY. Ignore the church created introduction and chapter headings. Joseph and others simply began calling it the Hill Cumorah. There was no indication of revelation to Joseph re: location of Cumorah. Moroni didn't call it Cumorah. It doesn't even make sense that it be Cumorah. 1) Moroni was wandering trying to stay away from the Lamanites, not go back to the epicenter of the great war, likely not far from other Lamenite civilizations. 2) The "real" hill cumorah held not just the gold plates but a whole room/cave full of records. That is not what Joseph experienced in NY.

​@spencerall incorrect. When Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry were at the hill Cumorah, a cave opened up revealing a massive room full of records and artifacts. Brigham Young described several wagon loads of artifacts.

He is clear that our hearts are wicked and we don't trust our feeling we test the spirits. That is only done with scripture. The BOM isn't God breathed scripture.

And I meet with missionary twice a week (usually with 2-4 missionaries and 1-4 members) Along with going to 3- 4 YSA Ward services (on Sunday like today) I also atened every Fhe,event or Church function And go to entity classes from tuesday through thursday ( Which is like seminary for adults ) So i'm pretty well versed when it comes to what you believe And I don't say that with hate, but rather Compassion and love I really ,Really love to be around these ppl cuz they are Generally honest loving, caring people but God bestowed upon me that they are Greatly deceived unfortunately Galations 1:6-10 & 2 Corinthians 11:4

I can only say for myself that I have fasted and prayed and have received my own personal witness that the Book of Mormon is true and is additional scripture to help bring me to Christ. The joy I feel having all the scriptures, the Bible and the Book of Mormon…helps me so much to know my Savior. I love having a living prophet who also guides me. I hope you find the truth. ❤️

Mosiah 15:1-5 And now Abinadi saith unto them: "I would that ye should understand that God Himself shall come down among the children of men and shall redeem His people; And because He dwelleth in flesh, He shall be called the Son of God; And having subjected the flesh to the will of the Father, being the Father and the Son - The Father, because He was conceived by the power of God, and the Son, because of the flesh, thus becoming the Father and Son, And They are one God, yea, the Very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth - And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son to the Father, being one God, suffereth temptation and yieldeth not to the temptation, But suffereth Himself to be mocked and scourged and cast out and disowned by His people.

​@@joesimpson9230To clarify, the reason Jesus is called "the Son because of the flesh" is because His physical body (the flesh) is the only one without a mortal father, because God the Father is the father of His physical body. This was needed to give Jesus both a mortal and immortal body so He could both die and also endure taking upon Him all of the sins and infirmities of the world before His death. Also, Jesus is the 2nd member of the Godhead which makes clear the Godhood of Jesus. And Jesus was Jehovah before His mortal life so Jesus is the God of the Old Testament who spoke to and guided the prophets in the Old Testament and is the One that all of their ceremonies were for, representing the sacrifice He would make for all mankind. He is the Holy One of Isreal, the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, the Word who was with God (the Father) in the beginning and was God (2nd member of the Godhead) before the Earth was formed and created all things by direction of the Father, which the Father is over. And the Father and Son are one in unity, love, and their purposes for mankind as part of one Godhead, with the Holy Spirit, who work together and has one gospel. So when it says God Himself would come down and would be called the Son of God because of His flesh, and that They would be one, this is what it means. This is one of the many examples in the Book of Mormon of how the Book of Mormon really doesn't contradict the Bible, but says exactly the same thing and shows how we need prophets of God who receive revelation to inform us of what the scriptures really mean. In this case it was Joseph Smith who was also the same prophet that translated the Book of Mormon. He was also the prophet that God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ appeared to, showing Joseph that They are two seperate, individual personages that are part of the same Godhead. I'm sure if They hadn't appeared to Joseph he may not have believed it for himself considering how ingrained the philosophy of the trinity was in the minds of the Christians. It was one of the things that needed to be restored. And, as the professor explained, when Jesus is referred to as Father it is referring to us being spiritually reborn through Him who makes us clean through His sacrifice when we repent, make covenants (such as baptism), and continue to repent for the remainder of our days. Also, Jesus is called the Father of creation, because He created all things in the physical realm, by direction of Heavenly Father who gets his title because he is the literal Father of our spirit bodies. That is the *one* title of Father that Jesus *doesn't* have is being the literal Father of our spirit bodies as Heavenly Father is to all of us. That's true regardless of anything we do or don't do. We will always be children of our Heavenly Father.

I had no problem with it. I am very curious about many things that I am skeptical of. If you had a scholar that could teach you about the history of the Aztec's, would your curiosity cease once you reacted to their child sacrifices? That is purposefully an extreme example. I don't believe that pastor Jeff reacts to any of LDS teaching in the same way, but being honest with your skepticism and doubts is packaged with curiosity. You don't need to leave your prior beliefs at the door.

@LatterDayInvestigator - Joseph Smith referred to the hill by his home in NY where he was shown the plates by Moroni and where he was eventually allowed to retrieve the plates as a "hill of considerable size." It was Mormon in the Book of Mormon who referred to hiding up all the records in a hill called Cumorah in the land of Cumorah, except for a few records which he gave his son Moroni. It was Moroni in the Book of Mormon who said he would hide those records "in the earth." This is why the location of Cumorah is not clear. However, there is no question among Latter-day Saints that Joseph Smith was shown the plates at the hill by his home and was given permission by Moroni to retrieve them from that same hill 4 years later. This hill has been named Hill Cumorah. Whether it is the same Hill Cumorah that Mormon referenced is not known.

@@micheleh3851 Go read the journals of Joseph, as well as the writings of Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer, and several of the statements by Martin Harris. They all clearly understood the hill in NY to be the same hill referred to in the text of the BoM.

I’m saying that you’re leaving out what they all clearly understood, and what was accepted among members until the mid 1900s (when archeology started to cast doubt on the idea the NY hill was the actual Cumorah). Consider the following from the Introduction to the BoM: “After Mormon completed his writings, he delivered the account to his son Moroni, who added a few words of his own and hid up the plates in the Hill Cumorah. On September 21, 1823, the same Moroni, then a glorified, resurrected being, appeared to the Prophet Joseph Smith and instructed him relative to the ancient record and its destined translation into the English language.” Also, you should go read Oliver Cowdery’s Letter VII, which was addressed to WW Phelps, published in the Messenger and the Advocate with Joseph’s blessing, and later repeatedly redistributed by Cowdery at the request of Joseph. I believe Oliver Cowdrey stated he and Joseph Smith were physically shown the actual Nephite repository and not just in vision. Put your trust is what these early church leaders said and as confirmed by modern LDS prophets before fully trusting scholars theories and ideas.

Both schools of thought have compelling arguments for and against them, it seems to me. It seems that the Lord gives us evidences but never proofs, including His own existence. Clearly, He could make Himself known as an indisputable fact, but He doesn’t. And I don’t think we’ll ever find a sign saying, “Welcome to Zarahemla”. I’m not prepared to disregard either side.

I agree with you on the Heartland model but more important is how is the BoM changing your life? What is the principle taught over and over that will change us into new/reborn people?

I have drawn more near to Christ, by reading the BoM through the eyes of a visionary man knowing better the context of Lehi and the Deuteronomic reforms he was living through in Jerusalem, watching the Jewish people utterly remove Christ from the Temple, and the importance of the Temple through his vision, than I ever did reading the Bible on its own. It testifies of the Prophetic power of Joseph Smith, which reinforces The First Vision, and thus a condemnation of the Creeds. For if God The Father and His Son Jesus Christ both appear in the flesh , the Nicene Creed and the concept of Creedal Trinity is a false idol. And if it is a false idol, then, the much of mysticism in Ancient Israel is correct, and Judaism is no longer a false religion, but one that has lost its authority and creedal Christendom's apostasy is also confirmed. God bless this restored authority upon His restored church. The Mysteries of God are made known to us and us alone, paired with the command to share it with the rest of the world. Praise God for His mercy and His Justice.
