Interesting, fascinating education,thank you!

Great stuff Mike! This is the story I heard (I knew I wasn't crazy). Harvey Gerst was in a band called Sweetwater at the time, because Jimi basically commandeered his guitar, and Harvet needed a guitar for a couple of shows, Jimi pointed at 4 or 5 of his Strats sitting in their cases on the floor and basically said to Harvey "take your pick". Harvey used one of Jimi's Strats for one or two shows, then later caught up with Jimi at the airport. Harvey handed Jimi the guitar case with the Strat and Jimi had a perplexed look on his face, like he never intended on taking his Strat back, that it was like a trade for the Black Widow. Harvey said he couldn't play it because the action was too high and he preferred his Black Widow because it had 24 frets. In later years Harvey was kind of kicking himself because Jimi did give him his Strat and he gave it back (in hindsight rather foolishly), it would be worth quite a bit, as is anything owned or used by Jimi.

Great stuff Mike, as per your usual. Amazing how Jimi continues to fascinate guitarists, listeners, even musicians who aren't guitarists, after over 50 years.(tried to sound all cerebral with that statement, but obviously my eloquence is fading in my advancing years). Any way Jimi has remained relevant, people (like me) wanting to learn anything & everything they can about the man. How many other musicians who have passed garner such attention? The Founding Father's, Lonnie Johnson, Charlie Christian, et al (except of course Robert Johnson), haven't remained in the conversation, the way Jimi has. He was an amazing musician, who is a global household word. I dare say, it'd be hard to find anyone on the planet, who hasn't heard of Jimi Hendrix. We want to know the guitars he owned, the amps he used, whether his string action was 4/64" across the fretboard, at the 17th fret,(per Fender specs), even what type of strings he used. Another long winded, verbose, comment from, yours truly.(I'm sure your listeners are FED UP, as my dear old mother was, when I was 12.) so I'll end this.Blessings Mike, you're in our prayers, Gil

I saw this at the MIM just outside of Phoenix. I've been there a couple of times and its well worth it to visit there. The Acoustic company made extremely influential bass gear through the late seventies. It provided the classic sound to Jaco Pastorius, John Paul Jones and many other influential bass players.

my thoughts on this matter is that high quality guitars sell themselves however the difference between selling 1 and 100 simply comes down to marketing if these guitars had the right marketing back then it might have been black widow mark 27 on everyone's lips instead gibson les paul or fender strat

Thanks Mike! Do we know what happened in the case of Experience Hendrix v. Harvey of Rainbow Guitars? Guessing since the judge said they had no ownership in the one case, Harvey won?
