This episode of "Later with Bob Costas" broadcast on April 8th, 1991 was recorded on the 17th anniversary of Henry Aaron breaking the all-time Home Run record held by Babe Ruth. While promoting his autobiography "If I Had A Hammer", Aaron addresses that end-run stretch to breaking the record juggling the athletic aspect (naps in the trainer's room) with media attention and racist based threats upon himself and his family. Aaron addresses playing in the final seasons of the Negro Leagues and following Jackie Robinson into the Major Leagues. The racism endured made his always graceful achievements more significant showing that being judged on performance the real criteria. Costas and Aaron discuss the then current generation of Black athletes seemingly unaware of the previous struggles toward equality. Henry Aaron also describes his role (along with newly elected VP Bill White) working within MLB Baseball to help guide the continued path toward social justice. #henryaaron #hankaaron #baseball #baberuth #bobcostas #interview
