1) Subscribe to the Channel
2) Comment on any videos during month of August, the more you comment the more chances you have to win!
3) Keep your fingers crossed, and wait until end of the month
First lets go over the specs
• 750cc Twin flat Dual carb engine pushing out 41ph and 42lbs or toque
• 739lbs but with me, my dog my fuel tanks filled up we are pushing over 1300lbs
• The 4 speed plus reserves pushes the power via a shaft to the rear wheel.
• And if you need a little extra traction, you can engage the side car wheel and put this baby into 2 wheel drive.
Little history about my owner ship of the Ural and how many states I have been too
• Having this bike for 3 and half years now I have driven over 7000km
• Visited 11 states
• taken it thru 100+ degree day, snow storms, mud, water crossings, windy roads and everything in between
Best Features
• It’s a side car
• It’s a mini truck and you can load a ton of stuff
• Fun to ride
• 2wd drive
Reliability
• Here is where Bikes and Bears is wrong
• Firstly, you stalled the bike in water with a low exhaust… this seems more like them not knowing how to handle this beast of a bike.
• Secondly, the engine started after it been flooded, sounds reliable to me….
• I’ve had no issues with the bike so far…. It’s been Flawless, only issue I’ve had is I left my lights on and the battery died, but luckily for me, this might be the last production bike with 750cc to still have a kick start!
Quirks
• UDF - Ural Delay Factor
• Tank slap, but get a steering damper
• Speedo needle look more like a Tachometer when your revving a bike

How and when to buy.
• Should not be your first bike
• Don’t buy if you are a light weight
• don’t buy new
• don’t buy if you’re looking for an easy ride
o the bike takes you for a ride, you don’t take it for a ride.
Bike and Beards
• Hey guys, this isn’t your Amazon unboxing and see how it looks bike, this is a 80 year old tank of a motorcycle that demands respect and a REAL OWNERS REVIEW.
• If you’re watching, let’s do a real trip together and I invite you to join me on a 3 day camping trip on the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail of 600 + miles of dirt roads, ATV trails, Water Crossing and winding roads and then we can give this bike a real score!

I am told the pre 2014 Urals are horribly unreliable. I would love to buy an older one because they are cheaper. Yours seems to have not broken down. Is that because it is a Taiga or are they not as bad as I am told?
@GasTachs
@GasTachs 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnkluge3421 I’ve never had any issues with mine as far as breaking down. The fact it’s a Taiga doesn’t mean anything as it’s just a paint job and some extra accessories. Just make sure you get a older one with a front disk brake because that is a must!

@@GasTachs How comfortable is the side car? It is very hard because no one rents these or lets you have a real test ride in them. One of the reasons I want one is my wife has a hip issue and just can't ride on the back of a motorcycle for more than a half hour anymore. Would love to take it on long trips with her. Is the side car comfortable? Will your wife ride in it?

I got a 1963 KMZ(Dnepr) K750 aka Ural´s (back in time) "sister/cousin" motorcycle manufacture, and that old hunk of rust and ironl is build like a tank, it might be slow, only having 26 small ponies, with an 750cc sidevalve 4 stroke engine, and people might make fun of it, until you show up to a meet, with the trunk full of tools, a grill, food, chairs and most importantly, 50 bottles of beer, while still having space for 2 passangers, now that's something I would choose any day, compared to a turbo charged Japanese rice cooker ;)

The k750 was for the military, better quality like a Ural which was for civilian use, when the Soviet Union existed. Then in the late 70s the Kiev factory started to make the Dnepr, which had overhead valve. Overall the Dnepr is a better concept, but the quality of the materials is not so good, especially true for MT-11 and MT-16.

I have owned 2 Harley's, A GSX-R 1000, A Hayabusa, and now own in addition to the URAL SIDECAR, A Ducati Streetfighter 4VS. Everyone of these bikes are as different as night and day. Reliability of the URAL....Not 1 Problem Yet. Remember, these bikes are used all over the World, and many in 3rd World Countries where the expense of proper maintenance takes a back seat to putting food on the table. These bikes are beasts, and are like the Hummer of the Bike World. They are Used in many 3rd World Countries as the Family Pick-Up Truck. A Ducati Owner typically pays for the High Maintenance Costs exactly when they are recommended by the Owner's Manual. People that use these bikes in the 3rd World, buy them already beat up, drive them hard, and do little to No Maintenance. Buy one of these bikes New, and do the Recommended maintenance in the Owner's Manual....You will have little to NO Problems with Reliability. They also are relatively simple, to do the basic maintenance such as Oil, and Gear Oil Changes. So, take this bike on the worst roads and trails Mother Nature has, don't change the fluids, Do None of the Recommended Factory Maintenance, then see if Your bike is EVEN STARTING....after about 5 Years of doing this. Reliability....You go to be kidding me. This bike will Last if Not OUTLAST, Almost Every Other Brand of Bike produced if the Recommended Maintenance is done, and driven on modern road. Do that....then plan on Years and Years of little to No Issues.

With 50+ years of bikes under my belt, I have to confess that my Ural Gear Up is by far the most fun of anything else I’ve ever ridden/owned, BY FAR. I’m a smaller man, at about 5’-7” & 150 lbs, but I can still thread the needle off road as well as anyone on one of these. You’re absolutely right about buying them used to get your best value. I’ll bet that 50% of the folks that buy them had no idea what they were getting into, or how to ride & control a hack. I saw that Boots & Beards video, and once again, you’re correct that it was a faulty review on so many levels, I lost count. See you on the trails, my friends! -PLJ

Great video. Agree with your assessment of the B&B video. Not a reliability issue, a poor pilot issue. The fact that they pumped the water out of the cylinders and got it running again proves that! I love my Ural and have ridden it in five states so far (2018 GU).

I had a 2014 Ural Patrol and it was the most reliable bike.... I could rely on it to break down just about every three months or so. And the break-downs weren't user error, but just poor quality or poor quality control. My first issue was a low-fuel light that didn't work. Ran out of gas a couple days into ownership and the low-fuel light never came on. Then the check-engine light came on, something to do with the EFI, a failed O2 sensor I believe, just two days after buying the bike brand new. Then the gear-box went out. And then the left cylinder/piston burnt up. And then the steering damper. And then the big one - the swing-arm just snapped while underway, which put the bike in 2WD and uncontrollable until it coasted to a stop. If there had been opposing traffic, I'd probably be dead. Had it happened just 50 yards later, my daughter and I would have ended up in a river with a 700+ pound bike on top of us. And dead. After that, the clutch went out.... Not due to the clutch wearing out, but the spline teeth on the clutch plates just wore out. A few months later and the clutch plate's spline teeth were gone again and splines on the out-put shaft were worn out, making a gear-box rebuild or replacement necessary. The only GOOD things about the Ural ownership was how much fun the thing was to ride (when it was running) and the factory stood by its warranty. With the three year warranty coming to an end, I got rid of my Ural. I'll certainly NEVER buy another one again. I know that there are many people who have great experiences with their Urals, but there are probably an equal number who have experiences much like my own. There certainly seems to be an inconsistency with the quality, and for that reason, I'd never buy one again. If someone wanted to give one to me, I'd take it, for sure. And I'd ride the snot out of it, loving every minute of if. But once the bike started giving me troubles, I'd yank the tub off and put it on a bike with a better history of quality.

I love the retro looks of the Ural and it seems like a fun bike to ride. But before throwing down money to buy one I did a lot of research, plenty of KZfaq videos taking about how great the Ural is but I also noticed quite a few videos on repairing various items on the bike with a lot of the failures that were happening seemed to be due to faulty workmanship, plus a lot of stories on Soviet Steeds of catastrophic failures, quite a few happening within the first few months of ownership. I wanted a side car motorcycle for my wife when she goes along and also to be able to haul extra gear when she doesn't that's why I was interested in the Ural. I do a lot of riding down miles and miles of old logging roads when camping with most of the areas are not in cell phone range so reliability of the bike was a very important factor for me. I also ride some established trails like the Imogene Pass between Telluride and Ouray Co and have done that on my Honda XR650L without to much of a problem, but with a side car it was questionable to me if the Ural would have enough power and torque especially at the higher elevations. I went with a Ducati Scrambler Desert sled and picked up a used Denepr side car for it on Ebay for a grand. So far it seems to do the trick I thought it might be nice to have the two wheel drive like the Ural but my bike seems to do just fine off-road with out it.

@@jwaller1327 It was in pretty bad shape no seat, spare tire or windscreen but no dents. I spent just shy of 800 cleaning it up myself then an additional 3k getting it fitted to the bike. The shop had to engineer and make new cross bars and the mounts on the Ducati to make it work.

Love the vlog. Right on as far as the Ural. It's the utility truck of motorcycles. I have an M-70 and love it. It's a 2017 and has only a couple of minor inconvenient issues but nothing major. Ural is constantly making improvements on a very old design. But the retro design is part of its appeal. Now there's a great dealer network and the company is American The bike is made in Russia. It has a very interesting history and brings a lot to the table. An owner has to enjoy it for what it is and there's a lot to enjoy. And one caveat, be sure it's not your only motorcycle, unless you no longer want to put your foot down when you come to a stop.

@@GasTachs There's alway's the "right" tool for a given job, when the tool is inadequate or to big, it takes away from the pleasure of the task, the Ural was designed during WW2 for purpose and designed well, in a land that needed a good, strong, sure footed mule and not a delicate race horse. Nice video! I've never operated a motorcycle before.... so when you say not to get one if it's your first bike that's not necessarily true. It might be to your advantage. I've read that you have to forget what you've learned riding a motorcycle because of the sidecar being a whole different animal. Not ever owning a motorcycle I purchased a used 2013 Gear Up and took the terrifying first ride, now it's almost second nature when riding. I also do not have a steering damper, just the knob. Never had a problem with the front end wobbling.

Still on the fence but the Ural GearUp is probably my next bike. I've got a '14 Honda Valkyrie that I love but I wanted something I could do more "work" with and take off road or in bad weather. I'm not averse to getting my hands dirty doing basic maintenance and repairs but I am concerned about reliability. Good video!

Replacing a car with a bike has its challenges, weather being the biggest. But if I were to do what you Are considering the Ural would be best. You can still have a passenger, or 2. I think the reputation for unreliability was from much older models. From what I understand, the more recent models are leaps & bounds more reliable. It looks like they've made steady, incremental improvements. They now have Brembo brakes, more reliable German gears & ignition, and the latest models even have fuel injection. I think the fuel injection is from Ducati.

It's that damn classic look I love. I love the idea of having a classic looking bike and being able to take it off-road. Neighbor of mine got me in that bug desiring something like that. He has a 2016-2018 (forgot the year) Indian Scout he modded the crap out of, gave it different wheels so it can accept more knobbier tires, skid plate, chain drive conversion, new suspension that raised the ride height an extra 2-inches. The _works._ He said the only problem he couldn't fix is the small gas tank, so he got a 3 gallon rotopax that he carries like a bible. Effectively doubling fuel capacity. Every weekend, I'd see him come home with the bike slathered in mud, or ice-depending on season-himself covered in dirt and a smile each time.
