We discover that not all campsites have the same COVID safety measures in place even from the same organisation and we take an ebike ride into the city of Winchester.
We aim to publish a video each week, every Saturday at 7am (UK time). We also live stream on the first Saturday of each month at 4pm.
Please share, leave a comment and give it a thumbs up. Click subscribe (it's free) for more videos and click the bell to receive notifications of all our new videos on our motorhome tours, events, motorhome DIY and live streams.

Recently we had a tour of Scotland (just got back today) and one of the sites near Fort William sent an e-mail with a pitch number on it (payment had already been made) and we made our way to the pitch without seeming anyone from Reception. It worked really well and a member of staff from the site came round to check the pitches in use. Excellent

Interesting video. My wife and I have returned from two Camping and Caravanning Club sites, Dartmouth and Verwood. Dartmouth was spotless. Every other toilet cubicle was closed, as was sink, urinal and shower. The block was closed 5 times a day for cleaning. (As per Club rules) Reception, shop, launderette, information room and childrens playground all remained closed. We were greeted at the entrance and escorted to our pitch. The Verwood site was simular, but ALL urinals were closed (So just two gents toilets to serve the whole site) But the worst thing about Verwood was they only cleaned the toilets twice a day. Met a lady who used to live nearby when I stayed who was visiting for first time in decades to see how things had changed who told me this. I always use my own facilities anyway. I made the mistake of parking under a cherry tree during the cherry season last year. I was puzzled by the noise of stones hitting my van roof early in the morning until I discovered that the birds were eating the cherries and dropping the stones on my roof. This resulted in cherry stones , saliva and the follow up waste coating my car and van . Looked like an autopsy. Had to wash it off to see out of the wind screen. Nice videos keep up the good work. John

We recently took a little tour round Devon and Cornwall staying on various Caravan and Motorhome club sites. Check in is almost back to normal, all the reception areas had been fitted with Perspex screens to protect the staff and visitors. So you just went into reception as normal (well one person at a time) and checked in. I was given a choice of pitches and just drove round and selected where we wanted to park. Then walked over to reception and let them know where I'd parked. OK at St Agnes Beacon site I didn't do that as it was raining very hard. Payment was taken via card payment with me reading out the numbers from the card just like you do over the phone. The wrist bands for the facilities were given to us, they had been sanitised and had the pitch number on, so that get round the bleach issue, they had to be hung on a hook outside if you used the facility that gave the indication of how many people were inside. As it was a limited number that could be inside, if the hooks were full you had to wait. We chose not to use the site facilities, we just used our own. Obviously all the markings were down reminding people of the 2 metre rule, and there were hand sanitisers outside the doors. It felt and looked as normal as it could possibly be at the moment, we felt safe and protected. All the staff were their normal friendly selves. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and are preparing for our next one.

I think it varies from site to site. We recently stayed at Sandringham C&MC site. We all had wristbands and you put them on a hook when you used the facilities. Only 2 people allowed in at any one time, so 2 hooks and if they both had a wristband on, then you could not enter. Problem was that people would forget to retrieve their wristband, so you would be waiting outside and there would be either only one person or no-one using the facilities. Also, if 2 people having a shower, you couldn’t use the loo.

@@HermanHitstheRoad we had a good time. However, it was definitely a different experience to before and much less busy than it would normally be this time of year. We managed to even get in to some designated motorhome spaces which we would not normally have a chance to get in to in the past on days out. We also used the park and rides a lot which was very handy. Both sites we stayed at were excellent at dealing with Covid, both spotless, but interesting how different sites deal with it.

Greetings from South Texas Ads & Zoe. Using public facilities is a definite NO NO, the exposure risk is still too high for the virus... sorry. I noticed when you were in the town central of Winchester, nobody was wearing masks, what's up with that? Here in Texas it is now mandatory if you go out in the public, you must wear a mask, besides it's the responsible/patriotic thing to do if you're in a crowd of people. Our death toll here in Texas is one of the highest in the nation, however new cases have gone down and I think that's because people are wearing masks. Are things getting better there in Great Britain? Please be safe & God Bless.
@Trevor.Adams640
@Trevor.Adams640 3 жыл бұрын
In the UK, we only have to wear masks inside shops, malls and publicly accessible buildings. We don’t have to wear them outside. The risks of transmission outside is much lower than indoors.
@deb5710

@@Trevor.Adams640 Please understand that I made my statement out of concern for others. By the way, some of the recent hot spots for outbreaks here on the USA, has been beaches and outside pool parties. I appreciate your comment, take care.
@HermanHitstheRoad
@HermanHitstheRoad 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Deborah, thanks for the info. Different places have different levels of risk. The USA is still rife with the virus but other countries have a much lower risk (eg New Zealand). Being outside and staying 2 metres apart is the advice simply because it's much harder for the virus to spread. Masks help limit the spread from the wearer to others but not the other way round. In some countries (ie France) you must wear a mask outside but in the UK we don't. This is because the risk in France is much higher. Stay safe and all the best, Ads

I am hoping the CMC is using the different toilet restrictions on on the sites as a trial to see which system works best and then use that across the estate, if COVID continues. But I doubt this is true. As there is no intensive cleaning between families using the facilities on the site you are on (or any CMC site), I honestly believe there is no extra health risk to fully opening the toilet block. What they have done is only allow two people to use the toilets at one time. Most commercial caravan sites have fully open toilets, all tourist toilet blocks, supermarket, service station toilets are open, so why aren’t the CMC toilets open???
@HermanHitstheRoad
@HermanHitstheRoad 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, the reason is for social distancing. Lowering the risk of spread. The camp site toilets can sometimes be very busy and have queues for showers etc. It only takes a carrier to sneeze and many of them will catch it rather than one or two.
@bobajob1524
@bobajob1524 3 жыл бұрын
Herman Hits the Road. I totally understand the reasoning behind what is happening, but if somebody sneezes inside, the droplets will sit on many surfaces and spread the disease. Someone sneezing at the back of a queue can sneeze and infect the whole queue, who will then go into the toilets and touch multiple surfaces, further spreading the disease. The risk of spreading is very similar with toilets fully open as fully closed. My major concern is mainly about safeguarding as what I witnessed at the CMC site I visited was young boys queuing for prolonged periods with strange men. The government asks for common sense, but their parents obviously did not have any. When people decide to take a holiday during a global pandemic that is killing millions world wide, they surely must understand they are putting themselves and others at risk. The answer to me is fully serviced pitches and no facilities required, but that is a major investment in infrastructure, which will take money and years of groundwork to come to fruition.
