So from what I've gathered with these episodes so far: - Spear Hero is an actual brainlet - Bow Hero is an edgy 12 year old trying to be cool and shit - Sword Hero has his heart in the right place but isn't wise and experienced enough to make the right choices And of course: - Shield Hero is best boy

Out of the other three heroes, Ren always seems the most level-headed. He takes the story of the princess at face value, because why wouldn't he? However, when that story starts to clash with what he's seeing, he's the first one to question it, and starts to treat Naofumi more fairly.

My opinion on the three heroes Sword Hero: the only one who has a brain among them, and the one we have hope for. Bow Hero: has an ego who could rival Gilgamesh from Fate Zero/Stay Night Franchise Spear Hero: He'll believe whatever any beautiful lady tells him...coffs... like Bitch for example... because he is such a manipulative fool.

references aside, i like that in this scene there seems to start being respect between naofumi and ren with each other, having on mind both the direct and indirect interactions between the two from here on out

Of all the heroes that aren’t Naofumi, Sword Hero is probably my favorite. He lives in denial, sure, but he seems to be learning that his actions have consequences.

The thing that I love about this sequence is the fact that at the very least the sword hero is kind of realizing that he’s not really doing much in the way of you know being heroic. The archer guy however is pretty much completely hopeless. He’s so stuck in his own power Fantasy that he fails to realize that he’s actually causing more problems that he solving.

At this point, Ren has shown more character development than his two fellow heroes, as he starts to improve greatly after this.

I like Ren almost as much as Naofumi, he's a real one

I really like Naofumi because he is level-headed, smart and mature, since the beginning he knows that this world is no game. He knows that every action has consequences (unlike the other three morons who has to deal with).

Out of the 4 heroes the only two decent ones are Naofumi and Ren.Naofumi is cleaning up all the messes the other 3 left behind and is building up his legacy,Ren seems to be disappointed in his actions,he thinks just because it's like a game the enemy he defeats will fade away.When Naofumi was accused of kidnapping Melty Ren wanted to talk it out with Naofumi.If Naofumi met Ren when he was trying to leave the country instead of Motoyasu,Ren would likely have been the one to listen to Naofumi's full story.But that's just my opinion.

Ren is easily the better of the Three Cardinal Stooges, because I feel his head is in the right place, although his heart isn't quite there. After Naofumi tells them of his suspicions of the Church, Ren was the first to take a risk and trust someone he had been set against from the beginning. From what I'm seeing so far, he'll be the first of them to fight alongside Naofumi and apologize for how he treated him.

Notice the sword hero is the only one who believes him, he sees how his companion suffered due to the job he was supposed to do but didnt. I also think that the classic tandem of the sword in shield, where you wield both, plays a little part in this. 'Sasuke' is the only one who gives him a shot.

Okay here's my analysis of the 3 incompetent heros Ren: he is the most reasonable of the 3 and the only one to really consider his actions. He's naive but will eventually snap. Despite being the youngest he is often shown with the most maturity Itsuki: He is the second youngest yet acts the most childish. He always holds a grudge and isn't willing to hear what Naofumi says for the sake of his ego. He's basically Robin Hood 2.0. Motoyasu (fukboi mcgee): Blindly hates Naofumi due to Bitchs manipulation. He has his heart in the right place but it isn't shown that often due to the aforementioned manipulation. Despite being the oldest he doesn't show much intelligence

So Ren understood that without further questions, just by looking at Raphtalia's hands. Well, at least he considered all mistakes what he did. Not so hopeless as two others.

Sword is actually decent enough to realize his own mistakes, Bow and Spear are the biggest dickheads though, they believe that everything they do is heroic and inherently good because of their pride of being chosen as "heroes" so they lack critical thinking and jump to the easiest conclusions like sheep. They never come close to Naofumi in combat because they continually grind easy exp but lack ACTUAL combat experience gained from true hardship in life-or-death battles and perseverance. When they spar with a royal captain later in the series she outright refuses to believe that the heroes are so basic at combat for their level, like an mmo character whose at high level but completely clueless at actual PVP.

Every moment Naofumi wastes with these clowns is a moment less for Raphtalia-chan to confess her love for him, smh.

This scene is a great example of some of the more subtle character moments the series does so well. Itzuki starts by claiming the high ground and talking about responsibility. But when Naofumi calls him out on all the trouble he's caused, he gets defensive and refuses to listen, proving what a hypocrite he really is. - Ren, however, acknowledges his mistakes and apologizes for the damage he caused both to the village and to Raphtalia. Thus proving Itzuki's earlier statement even if Bow-Jerk doesn't.

Uncle Ben scoffs at you, Itsuki. Peter scoffs at you, Aunt May scoffs at you, the entire Spider-verse scoffs at you... The entire freaking Marvel Universe scoffs at you

Ren: he's basically just posturing. Looking cool, being detached, never letting anyone know anything about him or being indebted to anyone. He's actually just a regular dude doing his best to look strong and cool in front of others and avoid any problems to himself. He's moved by mere self interest. Itsuki: he's always had an advantage over other people due to his status. He's all about being the star, the leader, the hero. His mind is on defeating powerful enemies, punishing criminals and tyrants. He only follows his ways, and whoever doesn't agree with him he considers to be below him. He refuses to admit his weaknesses, his mistakes or his ignorance, but its quick to condemn others. He's moved by mere ambition and pride. Motoyasu: he's basically a guy that was lucky to be good looking, tall, strong and inheriting such a powerful weapon. Despite just being a lucky guy, he has tremendous contempt for those that are ugly, short, weak, poor and low on the social ladder. He's simply moved by pleasure, status and materialistic gains. Naofumi: a common guy, very sincere and kind hearted, innocent, peaceful. He's not into posturing. He's not proud or entitled. He's authentic, vulnerable, humble and compassionate towards those in pain or need. He's moved by love and empathy towards other's people's misery. His weapon, the shield, it's a symbol of his strength: he may not be the strongest in offensive combat, but he can withstand even the most powerful blows.

Ren was the only one out of the three weapon heroes that I actually liked and hoped would see the truth sooner

Well, now we have enough to accurately describe the other heroes: Motoyasu is basically a generic Isekai/shonen MC: White Knight syndrome sufferer, pervert and very dumb. But it also shows what happens when he is not the protagonist, is pampered to irresponsable levels and pulled through the nose to whatever she wants. Ren is the classical power leveler MMORPG player: just cares about growing in power. But he is not unreasonable and has a sense of responsability about the consecuences of his actions. Itsuki is an arrogant glory seeker with a warped sense of justice and morals (and that's not all. I wont spoil it)

What’s ironic is he quoted Spider man’s most popular line, “great power comes with great responsibility” Yet his definitely the most irresponsible hero in the show. At least, the sword hero is willing to believe Naofumi, and own up to his misdeeds. Even the spear hero has also own up to his misdeeds, and even apologized to Naofumi at one point. But the bow hero in the other hand, is quite close minded, and irresponsible.

Among all three heroes the sword hero actually has some senses if he just takes his time and learn from naufumi he would a great secondary main for the series

Glad that *eventually* Ren got his head out of his ass (granted it took a while).

This was proof that all Naofumi was doing is being an actual hero before the wave, trying to survive, help others and prepare for the wave. If this part wasn't in the show it would come later and later until it couldn't not happen, it was a neccesary moment for the story to keep going. It's overly a badass moment for Naofumi not as a hero or as a warrior, as a person.

Ren is the mose decent of the three other heroes. Where Itsuki feels like he's an anime protagonist and tries to be cool and is super self-righteous about it and Motoyasu is on a journey to find out how dumb you can be while being manipulated into bs by his snake companion, being a possible paedophile all the while, Ren isn't on some ego-trip but actually trying to be a good hero and helping the people. He's open-minded toward Naofumi despite the prejudice and acknowledges his own mistakes and tries to learn from them. He's not the beast that Naofumi is, but he's definitely the second-best hero out there by a big distance

I always felt like one of the main differences between Naofumi and the other heroes was that he didn't go into this with expectations. The other three got pulled into video games from their worlds, while Naofumi got pulled into a light novel. Video games have certain expectations: Finish a quest, get a reward, move onto the next quest. Whenever something you do perminantly affects the world, it is either a main story arc or the designers are really detail-oriented. Sword, Spear, and Bow all aproach this world with the mentality: Yeah they help with the main quest, but the spend their down times goofing off and expecting rinse-and-repeat side missions. Light Novels, on the other hand, usually have a lot of thought and worldbuilding built into them. Novel writers expect their readers to analyize and remember every detail of their world, so they have to keep things consistent. Every action by the characters has a reaction by the world. It's assumed that once your main charater leaves an area, life will go on for the characters left behind. TL:DR, Naofumi is living in a world he has to adapt to, while the other heroes expect this world to act like a video game.

At least he can figure SOME things out and tell whenever naofumi is telling the truth, while the other two are too caught up with their own fantasies. Sword hero is as well but it seems he has some potential to have at least twice a brain as the others
