There was no collaboration. Homme had the Kyuss songs already recorded. And he had his own stuff. Man's Ruin would put out anything. Back then, Kyuss was pretty obscure so there was no discontent among other band members with this coming out. No one knew who Josh Homme was outside of the Kyuss die hards. Turned out to be a classic album, the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.

I agree. Every time I listen to the self-titled '98 version, I always come back to this one in the middle of the other song. I just prefer this one so much more. I also like how this version is in a slightly higher key. I only noticed that when I was learning to play both versions on guitar.

Riff sounds very Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" like to me. Diggin' it. This is probably my favorite version of the song too, album version is great but a little too polished.

this version is better in my opinion. the guitars are smoother and heavier, and through the chorus josh's voice gets lost in there, really awesome. and you gotta love the clicks at the start of the song.

This was recorded in Seattle Washington at Iron Wood Studio. Vic the stick on Drums. Van Conner on Bass and Chris Goss producing. Johnny was there hanging out and got drunk.

The strumming pattern and probably the tonality is different, but the main chord progression is pretty much like The Stooges' "I Wanna be Your Dog".

The splitalbum is very hard to find indeed, and so is the first album of queens of the stone age. I bought mine in a common music store 3 years ago (in Norway), and I've never seen it in stores again. Ever.

Music landscape is built of two components, notes and pauses. Only two components so its obvious that both mean a lot. So the rhytmical pattern in i wanna be your dog isn't nearly as good as this one. You're a prick, by the way

It's also on their first album "Queens of the stone age", under the shortened title "If only" which is also on youtube, but this won't let me post the link) if you ask me the biggest difference between them is the name :)

this is just an old ep release that's been long out of print; if you want a better quality version of this song and another awesome 10 tracks then you need to buy their first album called 'queens of the stone age'. I'm British and it's easy to get the album here, even from music stores, but if you're american I've heard it's quite hard to get. Good luck if you are.
