Shirasu (baby sardines) is a versatile ingredient that's not only delicious and budget-friendly but also easy to freeze for storage. Its subtle flavor makes it adaptable to various tastes, and it's a great canvas for experimenting with different flavors like garlic or butter. Given that many of our dishes have rich flavors, we opted to create a relatively light dish without using excessive oil.
Both shirasu and cheese have a strong saltiness, so adding shiso leaves is recommended to balance the flavors; otherwise, it might come across as overly salty. For those who aren't fans of shiso leaves, using alternatives like green onions can also result in a delightful taste.
To finish, a sprinkle of lemon adds a refreshing touch, making this dish a perfect companion to enjoy with a glass of crisp white wine.
