This is the HiBoy Fat Tire Electric Bike. I was sent this model to review. These are my initial thoughts based on getting it out of the box and having a ride around. If you are interested in the bike you can find for information at the HiBoy website.

I purchased this bike and it’s a great bike especially for $999. I also own a $2000 bike and love riding this still. All black, plain and a head turner because of its beefy plain look with fat tires.

Truthfully i dont know why people here are talking trash about this. Ill admit i havent tried a high end ebike nor would i want one. Id buy a motorcycle before shelling out 5k on electric bikes.. This is a perfect bike at a reasonable price as a beginner. . So far hearing good things about it.

I think the main complaint is about the brakes which is really a relatively easy upgrade. We have enjoyed riding it so far.

I’m a first time e-bike owner and did not think that the extra weight and speed makes it VERY possible to burn out the pads WAAYYYY earlier than needed. I put on new pads and adjusted the way I ride from a light-weight mountain bike to a HEAVY HOG. For me, the steering can sometimes feel like feel mushy like if you relied on power steering fluid I a car and it was a little low. These are my only concerns and/or critiques. No they’re not. I’ve also taken my Fatty-boom-baddie through torrential rainstorms and it still works like new - no water damage issues. Remember this post, because e-bikes give many who for whatever reason (don’t have enough $ to buy a reliable car, no drivers license, etc.) can’t have or drive a car a reliable way to get around cheaper, just as fast in city areas, and quite frankly it’s a stylish bike that walks the walk.

Thanks for the quality comment it will help people for sure. So far all I have had to do is adjust the brakes but I imagine you are right and the pads will go first. It's definitely a heavy beast. I wish the pedal assist was tunable but it's holding up so far. Cheers

I always like the simplicity and reliability of mechanical breaks, with 180mm rotors.

I had some on my Salsa Vaya before I put the motor on it and found them to do the business. I think those were 180mm

Really grateful to find this channel as every other video seems like shameless marketing. I am pleading you for the update video that you said you’d deliver. Pretty please. I own a car and don’t have the time/skills to mod a bike and this seems like the best option for what I want from an e-bike. Seems clear the brakes are the biggest concern but I would love to know how the battery and motor have lasted. Thank you.

I can’t do one that quick as I’m going on my hold. The brakes annoyed me tho so I replaced with Tektro quad pistons. Much much better. My wife has been using it everyday and likes it though.

Thanks for this. Have you had to adjust the brakes? Do you find it wants to keep steering during turns? What are your thoughts on the PAS? I'd like a faster engagement and stopping of the motor.

@@HighVoltageKits i adjusted the brake to have the back wheel brake smoothly and the front more tight to end the braking or stop right on the line . Im almost always on speed 9 or 8 and level 1 PAS so its slow to engage when pedaling but that is why i always start with the throttle and pedaling ,when im at 30 mph im just pedaling but its usually also time to brake again to not get hit by a car 😆 i admit i never tested it but i guess if you set it on speed 2 or 3 you will pedal easier and faster so PAS must engage quicker. I like the throttle ,very sensitive i can get exactly the power i need when i need it . Still have to test it in the snow and on the ice but so far i think it will work way better compared to the Gotrax i used last winter 😆

How they make it so its so cheep is they do cheep out on the breaks my guess it that they use the same breaks as all other bikes they have witch are not made for fat tire E-bikes at all, the back break was the first to go and when I brought it into the shop I had shelfing starting had the wrong sizes parts, ( BE CARFUL AND GET THE BREAKS CHANGED IF YOUR BUYING THIS BIKE FOR SOMEONE ) I have the p6 so I can say from having one I changed the breaks for $460 CAD at a bike shop and after doing so I have had no problems at all, I can say coming from someone that is close to 300lbs the bike has lots of power behind it.I can get about 40KM out of one charge is winter not shore how far in the spring or summer yet.

@@HighVoltageKits I think you've been spoiled by the torque sensors you've been riding lately;) With a Bafang hub I'm sure you'll get it tweaked to your liking. That's what makes Bafang so popular, the programability of their motors (as you well know). As good as it may be I'm hooked on DIY & mid-drives. I have a Dolomite ALX waiting on a conversion. For around the same price (I already have batteries) it'll get a Toseven or Photon (if they prove reliable) or an HD. I'm taking my time on this (my third) build to see what comes from your testing & to avoid the added cost of a divorce.

I appreciate your concern. I truly do. I declined to take part with the affiliate program they offered. There have also been lots of requests to look at budget options. This is one. I am not going to sugar coat anything. I have been offered these things many times in the past and said no. But its a Fatbike and I was curious as to how it would ride based on the cost. At least if I do it there won't be made up bullcrap about it to try and make a quick buck. Out of nearly 300 videos its the first time I have been sent a bike to review. Who knows it might be the last if they don't like it. If the brakes need adjusting after 50kms I will say that. If the tires puncture and look worn out after a short time I will say that as well. Now if in twenty videos time all I have done is product views they you can come on over and kick me up the arse yourself ;)

@@HighVoltageKitsI don’t know of any other e-bike channel on KZfaq as humble as yours and that’s what make it one of the kind. Affiliate links are evil. So glad this channel is not spoiled with this evil practice and I salute you sir for that.

A hub motor on a fat bike or any other terrain e-bike for that matter, does not make any sense.

I see your point but in this case the whole bike is heavy. These things I usually see getting ridden around mutli use trails and paths bymiddle age to older people that is not into aggressive all terrain riding.

If the bike does not last then I don't think it will be the hub that fails. I just got an 02 back on the bike actually. New firmware as well, so l will be taking a nice long ride out and update on that. Greg put it on the dyno with the ASI with quite impressive results so updates on all that as soon as.

One of the things we wanted to do this year was to look at cheaper options for people that can't afford a $6000 dollar bike. So this is one. But I am not going to sugar coat it I still think the best bike is one you build yourself but if you don't have a one and you are on a budget things like this are an option. Reviewing stuff is not going to be a big feature here and never has been but like I said its a Fat Bike so I was genuinely curious. I get asked to do stuff like this all the time and usually its a hard no. But I was interested to see what you get with one of these and show other people. I declined to be part of their affiliate sales program whic was offering 6% per bike sold for this reason. You won't find me pushing things on people.

Trust me you are 100% onto something along with it a rosey future but it certainly ain't this leave this trash to that clown from ebike school.......

I appreciate your concern. But that's part of the point as well. I am going to push this thing hard and I will not hide it if there are problems because people deserve to hear that as well. The switches etc are the same company that CYC use. Its a Bafang hub. There will be a follow up and if its falling apart or the company won't refine PAS then I will state that. Lots of people will just do this to make a buck. I am more interested in exploring the section of the market and what it offers. We have some very cool stuff with the HV brand coming down the pipeline so rest assured this is not going to become a review channel.
