The thumbnail had me convinced to not click because I was expecting a hyper active dude rave about these coolers. However, I'm glad I took a chance because this review was really chill and very thorough. I especially liked the explanation that the NH-D15 portrudes over the 24-pin power connector. That point alone is valuable to know for someone like me that wants to put an NH-D15 into an NZXT H200. Very good video all around.

I miss your noise to cooling performance line plots, that way you could easily see the diminishing returns of the coolers beyond a certain fan speed. Additionally, for a more comprehensive look at the top of the line coolers, it might be of value to create a resistive heating element of the same size as an IHS and be able to precisely control the thermal load. That way you could analyze the thermal capacitance limitations of smaller/less dense towers in addition noise normalized fan performance.

If you care about noise, ninja is best. That few degrees of temperature difference on cheapest and most expensive cooler are irrelevant, all tems are really low and far below max temps allowed. There is no reason to cool CPU that low. But many people see enthusiast videos and and see that temps matter. Many people can overprice their PCs by choose overkill and expensive cooling solution

JUST installed a Noctua 15S (Dual tower single fan) on my 3800x. Very quiet with only the one fan, and about 1 degree warmer than the dual fan. Doesn't cover up the Ram. Cost was $74.00 before i bought matching blue rubber pads and a set of chromax swap radiator covers to make it look better. I would have gone with the all black Dual fan 15 chromax but I didn't want to cover up the ram slots. Since I was removing the 2nd fan anyway, i elected to also gain the extra PCI clearance that comes with having a 15S. I remember Maximum PC, didn't read it much.

How would the Scythe mugen 5 rev. b compare with these coolers? In your experience what's the best buy for a Ryzen 5 3600 (won't be overclocking) - looking for top performance and something really quiet. Black heatsinks/fans is a bonus. Fuma 2 or maybe the Dark Rock 4 or Noctua nh-u12S chromax?

$60 for the cheapest, I have been running a $30ish Coolermaster for years now with ZERO issues. You don't need to have the lowest temps possible, you just need the temps to not go into a point that the CPU over heats. The only time I have ever had thermal shut down was on a liquid cooling system when my pump failed. Even then, it didn't end up damaging the CPU.

1700@3.8 is probably 100w-120w, all these coolers are rated 200w or plus. So it’s really not hat meaningful to compare them at this power consumption range, because they can handle the heat dissipation very well within a few degrees. For high end coolers check reviewers who put 150w+ power consumption on the CPUs.

The Hyper 212 would get 3.5 tropical shirts because of cost and it still does well for lower budget builds. Which air cooler would get 1 out of 5 tropical shirts? The Evo212 can’t keep my 9700k cool. I switched to Scythe Ninja 5.

I would love to see how the Scythe Ninja 5 performs with better fans (such as the Noctua nf-a12s). Since it seems that this would be the ultimate air cooler.

@@PietroSoft *smh* Get simply 2 Kaze Flex 1200 RPM's for the Ninja 5, although tests proof that placing other/better fans don't do much in the performance of this cooler. For the Fuma 2, fine you can do it, but are you willing to give up the ram clearance and the "trick" that makes this cooler perform so well (contra rotating fans creating better directed airflow, static pressure and cancelation of noise.)?

@@dorientjewoller113 1200 RPM its too low for me. I deal with tdp monsters, i need all the performance i can get, without the pc sounding like a jet. The Noctua fans nf-a12x25 are perfect. I would like to see how the Ninja 5 and Fuma 2 perform with those fans. Yeah, i am willing to do the sacrifice, or simply just put the fan a little bit higher for better ram clearance. The contra rotating thing seems to be just a gimmick. Right now, i have a 5960X @4.5 and a NH-U12A. When the CPU is pushed to the limit gets close to 250W, on the CPU alone, the NH-U12A handles it like a champ without making too much noise. The Fuma 2 with 1200 RPM fans i think it wouldn't be able to handle that load, but with faster fans there is a possibility that it get close to the NH-U12A or even beat it.

@@PietroSoft So, which of the 2 consider you a gimmick, Scythe which is known to mod Noctua's for 20 years in Japan to cool systems for industrial purposes, or Noctua.

@@dorientjewoller113 I know that Scythe has history. But the counter rotating thing, really looks like a gimmick to me. Both are great. Also i dont expect the counter rotating thing can beat the performance of the practically best 120mm fans in the market.

interesting that in any other review of BEST air coolers always the noctua nh-15 wins and is just ahead of the dark rock pro 4 which is not even in this list

I have been mining on several ryzen 3900x,3950x at 3.9-4.0 ghz with PBO since last year. It's natural assasin3 is the best and ninga5 is out of question(which goes too hot to blue screen). These cpus work within 48-62 c for 24 hours mining on assasin3. NH15 is +5c hotter. Ninga5 normal starts above 72c and goes hotter until blue screen. Ninga5 with 3 noctua fans keeps around 70c

@@catman8173 try to make sure if it fits with case and the motherboard you want, i got a atx board and with the case i have it barely fit in with the rear fan eventually i decided that i wanted to switch the rear fan to a slim version so theres a little bit of a gap to allow for better airflow so if you can make sure that theres a decent enough gab on rear fan to the ninja 5, i dont think the ninja can block it necessarily but its better safe then sorry also if it blocks the rear fan you could also take one of the ninja fans and use it on the rear fans im using a 3600 aswell and its doing a really good job while staying quite the max temp i got was 75 celcius while gaming and it always goes down quick if it reaches these temps. if u dont mind the cooler beein a little louder u could use the fuma2 tough, apperantly it performs little better but for to cost of beeing a little bit louder
