I've been in a 'Curse of Strahd' campaign since late December. We're near the end. I previously had watched 'Dice, Camera, Action's' CoS campaign, and before that played and ran the original i6 module, 'Castle Ravenloft'. I also got happy over the years playing video games based on the setting, and skimmed through a predecessor to CoS that I think was 3rd edition. There's always opportunities to alter things, and the more one knows, the easier it is for the DM NOT to fudge the odd dice roll. :P

The comic relief Mark references at the end was pretty good. The dm even noted Mark txting in to him during the stream 👍. Pretty goofy/chaotic but even so there were some good DnD character moments!

Hi Mark, probably a bit late for you to ever notice this, but technically there are already rules for hitting things with cover like the wolf - the cover rules. +2 to AC for half cover, +5 for 3/4 cover and impossible to hit with full cover on LOS based attacks. Basically, you decide in that case if it's hittable, and if it's hittable, increase its AC by the amount that is suitable for the cover it has. Might prevent that aggreived look on Katie's face next time it happens, because she won't feel like shenanigans robbed her of the hit.

1:12:30 The name you're looking for is 'Cartwright' for someone who makes wagon wheels. As certifiably English of a name as you can hope to find. I tell you, those English trade names are pretty cool. I just learned that Tucker, my dog's name, is a trade name. A tucker is someone who washes laundry and linens by stepping on them as they're submerged in the river.

Early comment, still watching: I know the rules for mounted combat are rarely used, so I'm not surprised at this... But ridden mounts move on the riders turn (and can't attack, though they can dash still). Only if the mount is a highly intelligent creature like a dragon, or if the rider chooses not to control it does it use its own initiative, in which case it can attack. If the rider(s) dismount then the mount reverts back to it's own initiative. So here the horse would not have continued running despite having a higher initiative as they would have acted on the riders turn (on Roses turn and on Ismarks turn for each horse). Side note: I actually don't know if the same applies to mounts as part of vehicle. Don't think that was ever mentioned in the rules, unless I missed it. Edit: Anything cast as a bonus action means that only a cantrap can be cast as an action. Even another cantrap. That's a very common misunderstanding (I made the same error till I learnt better).

Someone please tell me who the NPC with the skeleton is meant to be a reference to. Mark said “Barry if you’re watching, your legacy lives on” and I have no idea who they’re talking about. I only know one Barry in the whole yogscast, and he definitely never played with the highrollers.

abot this part i threw in a wolf encounter for my party as well but i had about 15 normal wolves in adition to the direwolves with no horses and only 4 PCs. I think either mark is being very gentle or I was a bit harsh. or he gave ismark and ireena proper stats xD

My name is Wyler, which according to some accounts meant wheeler or wheel maker in older English slang. I unfortunately did not inherit any wheel related powers from my name.

As a first name it is an old English countryside pronunciation of wheeler that got converted into a first name as time and accents changed. Wheeler remained the surname for a Wheelright. As a surname however it's German in origin from the Latin word vilare meaning farmstead.

Xiiki's reading Earthen Grasp wrong during her turn at around 50:00. It still can't be Twinned still, because Twinned Spell requires it to have a creature as a target, but what the spell does is essentially makes a hand in an unoccupied space within 30 ft. that takes up a 5 ft. square (aka, one space, same as a medium sized creature), after which the hand can grab a single target within 5 ft. of it for it's attack and restrain. On subsequent turns, it can choose to crush the target it has to do more damage, try to grab a target within 5 ft., or move 30 ft. from where it was (this is worded poorly on the spell, it just says it can move to a different unoccupied space within range). If it does anything other than crush its target, (move or grab something else), it lets go of whatever it was holding.

Shadow is a nightcloak of Shar the neutral evil goddess known as the mistress of the night, our lady of loss, nightsinger, the dark lady or the dark goddess. with domain over death and trickery and a portfolio for darkness, loss, night, secrets and forgetfullness. worshiped by miners and those seeking to forget. she is also the dark twin of Selûne. strangely enough the wiki says ravens and crows are Shars favored animals. Does kim know this?

Gotta say, kudos to Mark for emphasizing the relationship between Shadow and her patron deity. "Do you really think she's gonna give a shit about this horse?" Too many clerics use their divine power for shits and giggles. Last campaign I was in, we had some conflict within the party, and our arcana cleric said, "Ooh! I use create food and water to make popcorn." It was funny, but a part of me thought that was an utter waste of a spell slot, and was probably pretty irritating to a god of arcane knowledge. Even for a trickster cleric, I feel like there's a point where the god would start rolling his eyes.

Sorcerer should have been able to twin spell Maximilian's Earthen Grasp as it only targets one creature at a time

Still a great spell for sorcerers because they can keep it up for multiple rounds since they have so few spells known.

RAW they can't twin it as it doesn't target any creatures. The spell targets a point on the ground and creates something. The thing it creates can then be controlled to target one creature, but it can continue to target a different creature making it a "multi-target" spell. So there's actually two reasons it can't be twinned. But the main reason is the initial casting not targeting any creatures.

44:00 Unfortunately, casting a bonus action cantrip is covered by the rules. Cantrips are still counted as spells, so when you cast a spell as a bonus action, you're locked into casting a cantrip as an action. The reason for this huge distinction comes from just one word: Quicken Spell, Sorcerer's ability to make any of their spells a bonus action. It would be EXTREMELY overpowered if they could not only cast a leveled spell like Chromatic Orb as a bonus action and then follow it up with another Chromatic Orb as their action, even more so if they used Twin Spell on it. It's on page 202 of the PHB for the Bonus Action rules for Casting Time: "A spell cast with a bonus action is especially swift. You must use a bonus action on your turn to cast the spell, provided that you haven't already taken a bonus action this turn. You can't cast another spell during the same turn, except for a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action." and page 201 for cantrips clarifies "A cantrip is a spell" which "level is 0." Since the Bonus Action rule doesn't say anything about the spells being leveled, it includes cantrips.

The raven holding a key felt very reminiscent of 90's video games. Not my favorite moment of this campaign. Mark's narrative seems a bit linear and heavy-handed. I'm yet to see the players having some breathing room to make big decisions.

I don’t know why they’re hyping up Shadow’s goddess/mistress so much and keeping it a secret. Unless it’s Strahd’s ex or something like that, i don’t see why we would care. Like- it’s d&d, i don’t care if her goddess is tiamat, or azathoth, or hello kitty, it’s just a character with a god, not exactly a new thing in d&d
