I bought this "DC 3.6v-6v to 400kV Boost Step-up Pulse Power Module High-voltage Generator" thingy from on ebay thinking it's total crap since the description is nonsense. Stating it can deliver 200kV and also stating it can deliver 400-600kV but no even mentioning the polarity of the input. But is was only $3.95 including shipping so i bought it anyway.
Of course it can't generate Voltages nowhere near to 600kV or even 200kV but HELLO nice sparks!

@ii795
@ii795 Ай бұрын
There is an integrated bleeding resistor, which bleeds the capacitors making it safe to touch after 8-10 seconds. But that's assuming that it is indeed there and functioning properly. I would first check with multimeter before relying on that. If you want to touch it while powered, as other said, touching it with one hand will probably only cause light injury. It is isolated from mains via transformer internally, so even if you are grounded, you should be OK. Touching it with both hands or in any other way which creates a loop through your body might be dangerous.

I have a 3-6 v. 400k generator can i power it with a 9v battery?
@Elektronaut
@Elektronaut 6 жыл бұрын
This HV generator is not really suited for longer operation. Only a few seconds at a time. So powering it with a 9V battery would shorten this time even more. In my opinion 9V would be okay, but just for really short bursts. Let'S say you want to zap something (or someone ;-) ) Aside from that, these generators a really cheap. Just get a bunch of them an try it out!

can I build a static grass aplicator with this¿¿ only need 20kv so I guess Iwould reduce the voltage source
@Elektronaut
@Elektronaut Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. The crux of these modules is that the output voltage can rise to the point where the internal isolation fails and the thing just destroys itself. I mean they are cheap so not much harm done. I built a static grass applicator myself and used a dedicated device that cost around 18$ (can't remember)

These things draw up to 3A from a single cell li-po or li-ion. Trying to drive one from a 9V battery would be an impedance mismatch to put it lightly. Within 10 or 20s the terminal voltage would probably fall too low to run the module at all and virtually all of the power dissipated in the circuit would be from the battery internal resistance. The ads say you can dive them from 1 or 2 cells but the performance really doesn't improve with higher supply voltage. My experience designing blocking oscillators like these suggests that the level of feedback is what determines the appropriate supply voltage and more is not better. I got a flat slab shaped version with identical output characteristics. It had thick heatshrink around the entire module which I removed. Without it I can easily feel a small section of the device heat up rapidly when powered. I assume it's the switching transistor. I've seen them advertised as putting out as much as 1 MV, which would jump almost a meter. Clearly they put out closer to 30kV at most and if you want them to last the max run time is maybe 10s followed by a 50s cool down.
