Those birds looked like they were in great shape, just like where they’re being kept! That’s a very clean turkey house right there! Great to see our animals and perhaps future dinner being taken care of so well! Thank you farmers!

This is the type of farm should of been shown on the BBC meat documentary, small amount of birds feeding a local area and not being intensive. Would give a different perception of how the meat is produced going through a local butchers shop like yourselves. If people supported butchers they are supporting this type of farming, support a supermarket and you make the intensive farming more intense

@@jenesuispassanslavoir7698 Hmm, i hate to state the obvious.. But you can build multiple floors? 12 floors of Turkeys = 12 times as many turkeys.. Without any more land use.. Guess not fully 12 since you gotta make room for elevator etc, but alot of space non the less. Cost is higher yes, but meat prices are hillariously low. People do not give meat the respect it deserves when being as cheap as it is now. Since 70s price of meat has dropped by 1/3. It can afford to go quite abit up. And it should go abit up, so we can reduce our meat consumption since its hurting the planet quite alot. Not saying we should force people to be vegetarian (Oh god no, i need my bacon) but we do not need meat at every meal. When i just hear my father talk about their meat consumption when they grew up.. It was 1 meatball per person, 2 for his dad who had been working in the fields. When i grew up. I could stuff as many meatballs into myself as i could fit pretty much. And we pretty much stayed the same place on the social ladder, middleclass.

The first time My Dad and I reared turkeys for Christmas, we did 120. What an experience. They are the daftest of animals. We kept rearing them but did lower numbers. Ours were free to roam in the fields. They were the tastiest turkeys we had ever had and a local butcher said they were the best he'd ever seen. They should all be reared outside and only go in at night. Ours ranged from 18lb to 28lb once they were ready for the customer. Encourage him to use outdoor space next time! He won't regret it.

Hi Tom I have worked on turkey farms where had up to 8,000 to 10,000 all sheds full and a.i 1800 turkeys a day also egg collect from all different sizes great videos always watch them every week

It's nice to see they are so curious about what is around them, a good sign of healthy birds. He has such a good stocking rate. I think that's what the industry standard should be! They are clearly well looked after 👍 We have three pet turkeys. Hubby wanted them, I had no idea why. But having had them a few months, I can totally see why he likes them. They are quite funny characters! Ours are fully free range, they sleep where they like, but they prefer to roost in any barn we have sheep in. Our 4 guard geese are scared of the turkeys, no idea why!

It would be interesting to know about the sexing. This farmer has purchased females for the quality of meat they produce. Are the males sold elsewhere and what is the target market? Guess it is Xmas with a different meat quality? Also like to know about the breeding process. Where do they get their chicks? How do the the producers prepare turkeys to lay the eggs in bulk to grow for the Xmas market? How are the parent birds managed to be ready and at their peak breeding time?

Canada geese are much scarier than those placid turkeys I saw in this video because they're aggressive, not curious. When they look you in the eye, it's quite apparent that they'd eat you if they had the teeth for it. They can't help it. It's in their dinosaur blood.
