If you feel more fatigued after HIIT, that means this form of exercise challenged your body and that’s a good thing. Body will grow and adapt only if it’s challenged. By the way, I view weight lifting as a form of HIIT since it’s hard doing a set to failure, and then I take a small break to somewhat recover before the next set. I’m actually reaping cardio benefit without actively doing cardio. One more thing, the amount of calories burnt during exercise (cardio, weight, HIIT or LISS) is minor compared to the total caloric expenditure for the rest of the whole day. A 30 min cardio for me burns maybe 300 calories even at high intensity (nowhere near 600 calories, speaking from a fairly muscular 200-lbs person), and my average caloric burn is 3500 calories a day (my 1 year average) as measured by my Fitbit. So if weight training or HIIT can raise your basal metabolic rate by challenging your body to adapt and grow, that’s a good option for people looking for an edge or get out of a health rut.

dumbing it down, do hiit if you want to maintain or grow muscle mass/strength, do liss if you want to improve endurance, stamina and weight loss while remaining easy on the body. with liss however you dont gain any extra muscle mass or strength, so its important to maintain a good diet to avoid muscle fatigue. also, its completely ok to do both. hiit with rest days after it, and liss on the weekends is a totally viable option. theres really no "better option"

Hi David 👋 I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement. still waiting to see who burns 600kcal in 30 Min at 60%MHR...not holding my breath..so the comparison is way off. we burn almost 70% more kal at 85%MHR.

Heart rate is also different,I found that running gives me higher heart rate and makes me sleep better than cycling, I'll always choose HIIT first if I'm not injuried.

Hey, doc! Great video. I was trying to find some scientific evidence on HIIT vs LISS for heart health. What is your stance on this topic regard two different types of cardio? Is one better than the other for stronger heart, better endurance? Thanks! 🙏

Great video Wouldn't one also maximize the efficiency of HIIT by having active recovery like a light cycle for the 2:30
@CitizenAthletics
@CitizenAthletics 2 жыл бұрын
With the numbers we used here, you would do light active cycling. If you go too hard during the rest then you wouldn’t be able to do the work sets at sufficient effort (20 calories in 30 seconds is quite hard!)

5:20 He's been hit by HIIT, systemic fatigue overtraining to the max, has cognitive lag (like I used to get with weights before I was educated about overtraining lol) Watched a few of your vids, all gems, subbed, I would sub my whole village if I could :) good stuff. 👍

This is just semantics but doesn't "cardio" imply cardio training, where the goal is to make gains in things like VO2 max and cardiac output? my understanding is that these require strong stimuli to get "optimal" adaptations, such as the intensity of HIIT, whereas LISS wouldn't see as much of an adaptation (relatively) for those factors. To be fair, you do bring this up at the end of the video, such that choosing one or the other depends on the goals, but for me, the title here would make more sense if it referred to "burning calories/weight loss" as opposed to "cardio." Anyway, love the channel, great video! Cheers

I also get that most people just use the term "cardio" pretty loosely to differentiate from strength training
@CitizenAthletics

Cardio is a general term, whereas there are lots of options - just like there is resistance training, with subdivisions of strength training, hypertrophy training, power training, etc. With cardio, there are major options of things like HIIT, LISS, and MICT (medium intensity continuous training). This are terms used in research to quantify what is being done and compare outcomes - such as changes in VO2max. I'll be doing specific videos on things like how to increase VO2max. While HIIT MIGHT deliver more results for some of these things in the short term, it's actually often not going to result in the best outcomes in the long term. For instance, a huge factor underlying VO2max potential is someone's cardiac output. Cardiac output will be best modified (improved) with long term training at low and medium intensity as high intensity work doesn't allow for the chamber to be stimulated eccentrically as it puts it under too demanding of a concentric demand.

You can’t burn the same amount of calories across the the same time frame with both. That’s a ridiculous statement.

HIIT is more unpleasant and therefore people are more likely to skip it than LISS.
