In July 2022 we set out to walk the Cape Wrath Trail. When planning the trip we used a book published by Cicerone written by Iain Harper known as the Cicerone book in which the different route options are split into stages, 14 in total.
This series of videos is presented in stages as detailed in the Cicerone book.
This is our part six which shows stages 11, 12 and 13 of the Cicerone book. We try to show the route, the terrain and possible camp spots along the way.
Join us on our journey to see if we make it.
00:00 intro Stage 11 Inchnadamph to Glendhu

This has been a great series to watch; one of the best of this trail. Makes me want to walk it again! Thank you for sharing the trip with us.

Thank you. Last episode of the trail is up tomorrow. When did you walk it?

@@tubbatravels I walked it in 2014. Got to the spot just upriver of yours at Benmore Lodge and a storm broke my main tent pole during a night of absolute terror. After hitching to Lairg and getting myself together I bussed and hitched to Blairmore and finished it from there. I went back in 2015 and started from the beginning again and made it all the way; but a white out at Inchnadamph (in late May!) convinced me to road walk most of the rest of it via Scourie. So although I have done it; I still feel like I want to do it again via some of the route I missed or diverted from. It's a great trail. Some lovely camping spots and bothies along the way and I love the Sandwood Bay area.

@@OldStag72 yes the weather would either make it or break it. We were so lucky with the weather. We had one night where some pegs came out in what I considered at the time to be a cyclone (probably I exaggerate) and I had to sit for over an hour holding on to the two poles for dear life praying it would stop and first chance I had I went out and deployed some delta pegs. We did it in 20 days but we had 30 to do it in which I thought would allow for several days bunkered down in the tent if the weather was so bad. Luckily we didn't need that time and I was able to pass some quality time in Edinburgh with my cousin after we finished. So in 2014 you were a trail blazer as I think now the trail will become more popular and defined paths will become more present. Well done to you.

I suppose the weather helps but the scenery was fantastic in this episode . I appreciate your hard work with all the editing you have to do to bring this series to us .

Hi John. Thank you very much. Yes the editing takes hours but it keeps me out of trouble and yes the weather does help. The next episode also has great weather and the lochs on the way to Sand wood Bay look amazing in the sun. Cheers.

Thanks Snowy, really appreciate your comments. Now I've got most of my editing done I can get properly stuck into your Cambrian way which I have been loving and looks every bit as challenging, maybe more so than this Cape Wrath thing.

@@tubbatravels when I did the trail solo I had no intention to do it again, however Dave asked me to do it with him as he'd always wanted to do it. Unfortunately due to my self going into AF because of over indulging with electrolytes we stopped at Shiel Bridge. The plan this year is do it again for Dave. after that maybe the Scottish upland way.

@@garyparker7494 yes , so much to do and so little time to do it in. I'm lucky I'm a teacher so I get an extended summer break otherwise finding the time would be tricky. The WHW is also an amazing hike. We took 12 days to do it really taking our time to swim in the lochs and simply take our time. We met many people doing it as quickly as possible and fair play to them, it is a feat of fitness. I even met one guy who ran it in 24 hours. I'm not that fit.

Really enjoying your CWT diary. Wonderful videos and fun commentary. The identification of potential camping spots has been really informative for anyone thinking about doing the trail (such as myself ). Like mentioned in other comments, it's really appreciated that you carry the extra equipment, take the time on the trail and spent ages producing these vlogs to share with us ❤️ I think anyone can be forgiven for Gaelic pronunciation but the Scots accent not so sure 😜🤣🤣 Thanks again. Excellent series.

Thank you Steven. It makes me really happy to know the films have been of help to you. I will post the final part tomorrow when I get in from work and the following week I'll post ' how to get away from Cape wrath'. Hopefully that will be of use to you as well. If you ever have any questions I'd be happy to answer them. Make sure you have the cicerone book and the Harvey map saves having several bigger os maps. Cheers.

Out of curiosity, how come you bypassed the Ben Dreavie route towards Rhiconich, and also not going via Strathan Bothy to Sandwood Bay?

Hi Edward. We wanted to walk along Loch Stack as it looked nice on the map and it was. We by- passed Strathan Bothy because we wanted to walk into Sandwood bay from Blairmore carpark. Hopefully the next video shows how beautiful that walk is. I'm sure both of the routes you mention are equally lovely.
