Listening to her is like being on a trip through centuries of time. I can feel the seasons pass, i taste the food of old European villages, I love someone ive never met. Im neither man or woman, i just am. What a great song for all time.

Ah, what a beautiful song, what beautiful imagery. It reminds one what we have given up in this modern world of ours- our traditions, our folk dances, our music, our ancestral ways of life- all for this vulgar world of consumerism, appearances, and pop music. Yet as long as there are people like Loreena to lead the way, we shall yet appreciate true music!

I am awestruck by how connected these people are without any tv, radio, telephone, internet. Their countenance is secure, calm, proud, intelligent. They are who they are, and do not pretend. So many modern people walking around with vacant or angry faces. These people are REAL, "not wannabes." The dance sequence is testament to their heritage: dance steps from generations long past, preserved.

"It is said that music is a bridge between Heaven and Earth." ~ Golden Sparrow ~ Loreena McKinnitt's music is proof of that... one of the most beautiful voices of our time. It is also a bridge between cultures... she is proof of that as well. It is the universal communication. Finally... As an old warhorse... I share your hopes. But judging from the comments here, we won't see that in our lifetime. So much hate, pointed at such a beautiful song. Go figure...

Yes, I remember when this video was first put here on KZfaq, you could clearly see the faces of the people and dancers, but now some malicious person has tampered with the quality of the video, causing the faces to be blurred. The Old Man you mentioned in your comment from 11 years ago can hardly even be seen, proving that this video was indeed tampered with. Someone behind the scenes at KZfaq (Zionistpigs) does not want the people of the Caucasus to be clearly seen in their beauty. I wish there was somewhere I else I could see this video in its untampered form.

That's what the 19th century anthropologist Johann Blumenbach thought of the Caucus; he believed that it was the motherland of Europeans/"Whites" since he fell in love with the face of a Georgian woman. That's where the whole idea of a Caucasian race came from and why the term "Caucasian" is used interchangeable for "White".

@@whitewater9963 The idea of Caucasians are the pure human race is mostly because of Circassians not Georgians. Circassian beauties were well known all across the world. Even in Britain, on beauty products there were writings as "Circassian women use this too!". There was a concept called Circassian beauties. You can still google and find it. I am not saying Georgians were ugly, they were beautiful too. But Circassians were the best you know. Even the Circassian slaves were the most expensive. More than a century after Blumenbach, “Caucasian” and beauty still went together. The classic (1910-1911) eleventh edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica even singled out the most beautiful of the beautiful. The Britannica praised the Circassians of the northwestern part of the Caucasus as particularly outstanding: "In the patriarchal simplicity of their manners, the mental qualities with which they were endowed, the beauty of form and regularity of feature by which they were distinguished, they surpassed most of the other tribes of the Caucasus."

Wolf Borz, NO. It is over the Checnians, Circassians (both the Adyghs, Kabardins and Ubyghs) and Daghestanies all. Not solely the Checnians. My paternal Grandmother, a 1861 borner Lady from Erzurum Turkey is Said to have told her 1886, 88, 90 born boys, my uncles, they were of Ubygh roots. On the other hand the first Caucasian chief that started resistance to the Russian Tzardom's invasion was a Daghestani chiefstain, Sheyh Shamil. It was the Daghestanies that started their war of inndependance first. Shamil than gathered many Circassian and Chechnian tribes to fight the troops of the Russia Tzar. Later on some tribes have given up the resistance combat. Any way Caucasus means a lot of diffent Clans. But kindly note that the earliest state established in Anatolia 6,000 years ago (4,000 BC) was founded by Hurrians, a Caucaso-Circassian people. (Proto Circassians) This was 1, 700 years before the First ever Indo-European peoples of Anatolia had appeared in history, namely the Hittites. But Non Indo-European Hatti People had alteady established their state as early as 2,900 BC. Indo European Luvians were in south and southwest Anatolia in 2,000 BC, a Good 1200 years before the Hellenic colonizations started. They were the predecessors of the Lydians, Etruscans and the earliest Troyans. By the way, the following Anatolian states of Mittani (1 800 - 1, 300, BC), Urartu (1,200 - 700 BC) and Mannea (900 - 650 BC) were all successors of the Hurrian state founded by Caucaso-Circassian people. The following Indo - European peoples of Anatolia were the Armenians and the Kurmanchi (Kurds) that migrated to eastern Anatolia during 750 BC. Thus Circassians or rather the Proto-Circassians were the oldest inhabitants of Anatolia and Caucasses.

@@KnowsBilir Before saying NO and speaking about the Chechens, first learn to even spell their name. It's Chechen, Chech(e)nya, a Chechen person. In the Chechen language, the name for Chechens is Nohchi, spelled Nokhtchi. YES it's Chechen architecture, those towers with these roofs that look like pine apples; you find them only in Chechenya, Inigushetia, and Chechen-Ingush territories of modern Ossetia. I know my culture, I know how the architecture of my country looks like, so don't say no in capital letters, thanks. You are probably referring to the simple towers all over the Caucasus, I'm speaking about the ones that have typical Chechen roofs. Now you're speaking about "proto-Circassian", and Caucaso-Circassian culture... I've never heard of that before, because no scientist or historian has ever used this term in science studies. The cultures you claim, Urartu, Hurrians, indeed very old civilisations, had a language. Many linguists state that the only modern Caucasians whose language is related to Hurrian, is the Nakho-Dagestani family group ; with an accent on the Nakh. But never heard of any relation whatever so between Hurrians and Circassians........ Like ever. Outside these debates that we will leave to historians and linguists, you are saying that you are a Turk with vague Circassian roots, is that right? Or the contrary, I didn't get it, you speak in a confused manner... I know most Circassians are mixed with Turks and Arabs, so I guess it must be disturbing for you guys to know who you are, which might explain your apparent identity issues.

@@wolk7301 first of all I'm 76 years old and typing from tiny. letters of the keyboard of my cellphone. The names of different peoples are generally spelled different in different languages. Eg. Çeçen for Chechnian and Çeçenistan for Chechnia are the words used in Turkish. On the other hand Loreena McKnnett has dedicated this composition to all the peoples of the Caucasus region not solely for the Chechnians. This is what I was trying to emphasize in my reply. That's why I included a brief history of the Muslim inhabitants of the Caucasus in terms of the last 2.5 siecles. By the way İ didn't say Iwas a Circassian. Read my reply well. My Grand mom was Ubygh, not her husband, my paternal Grandpa and my maternal ancestors were Turks. Regarding the mixing of Circassians with Turks and Arabs: There still is a big Circassian minority in the Russian federation. Yes the Number of the Circassian population in Turkey is more than those in Russia. The Circassians in Turkey have easily adapted to their New Homeland being an İslamic Society but have also preserved their traditions, customs, and almost all of them can speak their native language. Today there are some 3,5 million Circasions in Turkey, some 800 - 900,000 in Russia, 120,000 in Syria and some 60,000 in Jordan. Truly speaking, not all but a big majority of the Circassians in Jordan and Syria have been assimilated by the Semitic Arabs. But that goes for the Chechen emigrants as well. All these People were transferred by the Ottoman Kingdom following the Russian invasion of Caucasus states, by capturing their Home lands one by one, after the defeat of the Daghestani warlord Shamil. The Sultan granted large amounts of arable government lands in Syria and Jordan (of today) which was distributed to the Caucasian refugees. But had not the Russions applied the greatest massacres and ethnic cleansing to the Circassian population during early 19 th century, they would have constituted the highest Caucasian ethnic population of today. (Estimated as some 10 million). Note that post WW2 biggest ethnic cleansing was applied to Crimean Tartars, Akbhaz and Circassians while the Chechens had suffered a vast deportation to Central Asian states. With reference to the ethnic origin of the Hurrians, Mittanies, Urartu and the Maneans, the results of the latest studies based on New data unearthed, discovered etc has precisely revealed the fact that all these People spoke a Cucaso-Circassian language. Naturally the Western world had been trying to connect the roots of Anatolian civilizations ethnically to some Indo-European People, and preferably ones which have converted to Christianity. Since the Hittites did not exist any long, and there was not enough data during the late 18th and early 19th centuries they assumed that Armenians and the Kurds were the earliest inhabitants of Anatolia. Than the Western world acknowledged this assumption as true. But as New data was acquired their allegations faced counter evidences. Then they started to fabricate fake data just to distort the truth. HAAA by the way, this had nothing to do with us Turks. We have arrived this part of the earth only some 1000 years ago and are the latest owners. No doubt about it. But if all the recent discoveries have definitely revealed the truth that the earliest inhabitants of these lands were non İndo-european Hurrians, Hattians, Mittanies, Urartu, etc. and some People Come and tell us we have been here 1750 years earlier thus this is our land, than we'll have the right to tell them, there were Hurrians here, not 1750 but 3250 years before your appearance., other proto-circassians, the Hatties were here 2150 years before you, the Mittanies were here 1050 years before you, the Urartu 550 years before you. And when you come and settle and stay in their land it becomes a "vested right, an acquired right" to you, this the Western world takes for granted, and no objection, also when Alexander and his Macedonians invade and conquer almost every where, to them this is the glorius victory of Indo-Europeans and acknowledge this as a normal widespreading of their Arian civilization. Buutttt when we the Turks Come and settle here, then we are blamed by looting the the lands of the Arians, namely the Armenians and the Kurds. Is there any logic in such an unfair approach to this issue. Is there a Dharma. Certainly NOT. This is what I've been trying to explain. Kind Regards.

@@KnowsBilir I see. Thanks for taking time to respond, I must admit that the flaw of KZfaq is that one cannot see who he is speaking to. As you are 76 years old, I should probably show more attention to my manners. My bad. What I was trying to say, is that it might be exaggerate to push the whole Hurrian-Urartu civilization to Circassians, as it doesn't reflect a determined absolute certitude and considering the many debates anthropologists and linguists and historians have on the nature of these old people and the modern peoples that derived from them... If we don't agree on that, it's fine. I'm sure we could agree on many other things. :)

As appears from the above, the Vainakhs, at least by name, are presented as the most "Caucasian" people of all the Caucasians (Caucasus - Kavkas - Kavkasians) in the Georgian historical tradition

Duggie Smith bit much of a generalization there Duggie, as there are sections of America the same can be said as far as not being allowed to mix with 'normal educated people.' and judging by your comment, you should be included in that group. Now please go to your nearest plant and apologize for wasting the oxygen it produces.

Duggie Smith I'm going to guess that you're white? Assuming that, you're Caucasian which means that your race is from ___? Dazzle us with your superior intelligence and try to fill in the blank.

Duggie Smith Dear stranger. Maybe northern Caucasus(included in Russian federation) really is dangerous to travel to and Azerbaijan really is populated with Muslim people, but these are the only true things among the information you are offering. Georgia and Armenia are christian countries and their culture is not even a bit like western Muslim one. Also Georgia is a 2nd world country couple of decades (most likely even less) away from being a typical European country and if crime rate is what concerns you, it is the >>8TH

21wdwrkr That's only a 19th century theory that might actually not be true. The stupid thing is that some Americans use the term "caucausian" for whites.

Thank you, hikmet. Of all the McKennitt "Caucasus" videos I've seen on KZfaq, this is the only one that comes together for me, visuallly and musically. I can't say why.

Every time I hear this song, or any of Loreena's music for that matter, tears just stream down my face. I am in complete awe and rapture listening to her music. It is difficult to listen to anyone else, as no one can compare to her and her incredible grouping of musicians. The very mystical nature of her music takes me into an other-worldly dimension..
