Hill Country Fence lines "Its steeper than it looks" !

Putting in some fence lines on our hill country to increase the grazing pressure of the ewes and control the weed regrowth.
My Name is Alistair Bird and My wife Genna and I farm on 'The Grange" near Oxford, North Canterbury, in the South Island of New Zealand.

We have put a large solar set up on our hill country farm in kaikoura pumping 230 m virtual lift 320psi used Grant Clifford water force Marlborough found him great worth while talking to him.

Hi, check out the Hydraulic Ram Pump system that works without electricity or motors. There are heaps of U-tube posts on it and explanation and diagrams. I helped a mate to put one together from bits and pieces on his place in the Coromandel and he got a decent five meter rise. Worth checking out. Good work, liked your explanations for your work on preparing for winter. Cheers mate. Harera

Use a hydraulic ram pump. I think they are called a Williamson ram pump

Definitely a hydraulic ram is the way to go. I have installed a couple here in Wellington and it’s the most simple and cost effective way to pump water up hill, it really just depends on how much height your wanting to lift the water to as to what size ram to get. Williamson are NZ made and make really good rams. You can check them out on you tube to get an idea of what a set up looks like. I don’t know much about the solar pumps but can see them being more of a problem than a hydraulic ram. Not much can fail on a hydraulic ram, this is just from a plumbers perspective, hope this helps.

Thanks, also if you can explain why 90 to slope i think it will get people talking . I searched before contacting you , the discussions seem polarized. People from flatish land seem to be totally against it, even on steep land, but i'd bet they have not ever fenced really hilly land. At vertical some of my fences would be half height.

Forget solar, Bunyip pump is the way to go, no power needed

I have a 500w pump with 4 200w panels. It pumps to a water tank 60m elevation thru 600m of 25mm alkathene easy. I haven't had to do anything to it . I have had it 5yrs. I purchased from www.tuhorse.com.au
