Sylvie's video library project is legitimately a gift to future generations. So many of the recordings of fights from the golden era are lost, having been recorded over or simply not preserved, so her collecting a repository of the living golden era Nak Muays demonstrating their style is invaluable

Yes, thank you, Sylvie for all that you have done for those old fighters from the "Golden Age." You have even inspired both Samart and Dieselnoi to track down older fighters from their time and before their time to bring them back into the picture. Without you, (and your husband,) and your hard work, they could have easily been forgotten. Don't give up!

"Sky-Piercing Knee" is such an incredible fighter nickname. I feel like Charles Olivera takes a lot of the approaches outlined here, being one of the few MMA fighters to still use teeps/plum holds because his BJJ lets not worry about take downs. So he can use the classic long and short range Muay Thai weapons. Also, IIRC he has pretty good knees of his own (for MMA).

He's the only prominent fighter left from Chute Boxe Academy (Anderson Silva, Wanderlei silva, shogun, Gabriel Gonzaga all trained there at some point) so I like to view Charles as a hybrid and an evolution of the style. Just like the video, Charles uses similar aggressive tactics to make sure he's always pressing forward, even against counter fighters like gaethje, because his tools can make them uncomfortable as long as he is still marching them back. Even just the fact that he uses a teep AT ALL makes him surprisingly unusual, but it's a perfect tool for pushing back. I think his style would fall apart if he actually feared the takedowns, but considering it's his safety zone now, he can rely on that hyper aggressive hybrid muey Thai until he either gets a knockdown, gets knocked down, or someone is desperate enough to shoot a takedown against the record holder for most submissions, and (aside from Tony decision win) a man on like a 10 fight finish streak. Do Bronx is truly a treasure

No offense to Samart, Saenchai and Somrak but I think Vicharnnoi is better than them. Just like Samart, we can't find any videos of Vicharnnoi in his prime. From what I've heard about Vicharnnoi, he beat Dieselnoi twice while the former is past his prime. I do believe the great things Dieselnoi had said about Vicharnnoi since Dieselnoi is honest and has no ego plus he is incredibly knowledgeable about Muay Thai. I have watched a few videos about past prime Vicharnnoi and he does seem like in his prime he could be as skilled as Samart, Saenchai and Somrak but Vicharnnoi's power is evidently greater.

There are two big counters to arguments that Dieselnoi only succeeded because of his height: 1) He himself asks why there aren't many other tall Muay Thai champions if height is such a dominant advantage. 2) More strikingly, the fact that a petite woman like Sylvie who has to regularly fight above her weight class is able to work in his techniques shows they work for any size fighter. She doesn't have his dominant win streak, but bigger opponents absolutely do not want to clinch Sylvie. I came across Sylvies videos with Dieselnoi not long after I started Muay Thai in 2019 and his inspiration on my knee and clinch techniques shows. I'm a thinner lanky guy and my bigger friends who've held pads for my knees have described them as "an ab workout" and "it's like he knees right through the pad" and during sparring there's a palpable "Oh shit" moment anytime I get them into a clinch. Dieselnoi is a criminally unknown fighter among Western martial artists. Thank you for highlighting such an amazing fighter who almost faded into obscurity if not for Sylvie. The man deserves better and I'm happy to see he's getting it.
@lylemcdermott25662 жыл бұрын
He didn't face any fighter remotely close to his height so yeah... good luck trying to hit his face, he may not have super good punches but when he clinches you it's game over. Don't bs about weight and height not giving him any advantage.
@trcs30792 жыл бұрын
@@lylemcdermott2566 that's been the philosophy of sport since the inception of sports...to have as many advantageous variables, whether it be strength, height, weight, speed, agility, stamina and so forth so forth. It's like saying imagine if mike Tyson didn't have power, if Usain bolt didn't have speed, Michael Jordan didn't have accuracy. If defeats the whole notion and philosophy of sport as a whole entity.

Also, the Thai-Boxers from this day all said that his bones were rock hard. And they all attributed his success not to his height but his hard bones.

@brothertonykjv2 жыл бұрын
@@lylemcdermott2566 I was just relaying what Thai-Boxers who fought him had to say about him. I fought in the early 90's, and the trainers that I had fought in the '80's. Quite a few of them fought against Dieselnoi; and being that I was a bit tall, though not as tall as him, I tried to copy his fighting style: but they trained me not to do so, as, according to them, it wasn't his height that made him special: it was his hard bones. So I was trained to fight a different way, though I was tall for my weight. Some people are more bony than others. It's all about using what you got.

I'd give Vicharnnoi the edge and even put him above Samart as the Muay Thai GOAT. He is almost as skilled as Samart but with one hit knockout power.
