A lot of history is distorted. Only known borders and rulers are facts. Other stories of people's culture and religions could be explained different ways. Is there any documents, writings that truthfully state the History of this Country? Archives in Czech Republic perhaps? Thanks for sharing.

Look at my name and see why this interests me. My research has brought me here. Although , I was told I am Czech , it seems this name is much older. Grandparents fled Czechoslovakia and left our Hotel property to the Communists. So I was told. Father spoke of it after he became old. Don't know if the Hotel still stands, but I would have to believe, NO. Ancestors were Moravian. Only a 100 years of this nation. All things must pass.

Greater Moravia was duchy.
@AliMohamed-hx5bi7 жыл бұрын
was it Christian ?
@filipbatora75237 жыл бұрын
Yep. Prince Mojmír of Moravia started christianizing Moravia in 831 and he spread it into Principality of Nitra when he conquered it in 833 (Nitra´s previous ruler, Pribina, most likely did not have enough time to start the process himself) and while there were still pagans, the nobility of Moravia (Great Moravia is not the correct name of that country, but is used to differentiate it from region of Moravia) was Christian.
@AliMohamed-hx5bi7 жыл бұрын
Filip Batora was it a real independent empire or a Roman vassal ?
@filipbatora75237 жыл бұрын
It was established in 9th century, so there really was no way for them to be vassals of Roman Empire (unless you count Byzantine Empire as Roman Empire, but with the exception of mission of Constantine and Methodius, there was not a lot of contact between them). However, at the beginning, Great Moravia was vassal of Carolingian Empire and then East Francia. But after multiple wars, they achieved independence and while there were attempts to make its core areas parts of the empire, none of them succeeded for a long time.
@AliMohamed-hx5bi7 жыл бұрын
Filip Batora thanks , I don't know how I didn't hear about this great empire before .
@filipbatora75237 жыл бұрын
Calling it empire would be too much. It was principality (for the lack of better word, basically, traditional title of Slavic rulers is translated into English as prince, which might indicate the rank of prince in this case is something lower than title of king, but in reality, it is not) that during most of its existence controlled only Moravia (eastern part of Czech Republic) and western Slovakia. Most of the conquests were done during the reign of prince Svätopluk, but his sons were not able to hold onto them. In the end, while Great Moravia was really important power in Central Europe during second half of 9th century, it fell to Hungarians only 12/13 years after Svätopluk´s death (years 906 and 907 are most likely dates for the fall of Great Moravia).
