@charlestaylor253 nah. You need to carry the thing to the taks and get up close and there is a big chance you would die in the process with the tgewehr. A 25r 13mm would be incredibly heavy, it would make going prone very difficult and the extra cost of producing that thing would exhaust the German factories even faster, leading to fewer guns reaching the front. And because of the recoil of the thing, each crew could only fire a single digit amount of rounds, so even in deal conditions it would be useless weight. All I will say is: there is a reason the later anti tank rifles were given a capacity of around 5 max and even the barret 50 is issued with only a 10rounder.

While we sneacky British , with a short rifle, had a cunning plan! We made a longer bayonet! Which to quote, as the Brtish always do on these occasions, Lance Copral Jones of the Home Gaurd 'They don't like it up'em'!

The German rifles are not sighted with the bayonet on, the idea is they would be fitted for a trench charge and otherwise kept on the person as a knife. Some other nations did sight the rifle with bayonet in order for it to remain fitted during line fire, this changes the point of aim fairly drastically (not just weight, balance and harmonic, but aerodynamic effects from gas charge ahead of the bullet). Part of the rational here is that unlike earlier conflicts most WW2 guns where carried with live rounds in the magazine, so a soldiers reaction if surprised (even fairly close) was to make a shot (maybe even with handgun). Likewise at short ranges when using a battle-sight notch the shift in point of aim mattered far less than long ranges where a bayonet provided no functional advantage, but still made already forwards heavy guns even moreso, and would need to be fitted when spotting an unexpected distant opponent before you could start shooting accurately, as marching with bayonet installed (especially longer types) is generally an unfavorable concept.

GunFun ZS Superficial rust, found it in a dry white sand atop of a hill. Bayonets actually hold up suprisingly well, sadly sheats not so much- had one crumble in my hands after I found it

You don't need to do it that way, I have an original and it works a lot easier than this reproduction, fill it up with stripper clips and good to go. Also I can lie prone with it isn't a hassle i suspect my arms are a bit longer than Mae.

But what the Gewehr 98 doesn’t need? The box magazine. It’s too fiddly.

I'd argue the 1917 fielded by America is the best battle rifle.

The M1903 isn’t much of a target rifle given it’s sights. Also it’s a mauser clone.

The best target rifle was probably the Ross. For battle rifle, I'd probably go 1917. I'd take a sub gun over all of them though.
