Beautifully succinct review!

I always love watching your reviews! Hive is in my top 2 two player games. Keep up the great work!

I could see it being a bit of an issue with Hive Carbon, as the colours in the original version are very vibrant and easy to tell apart at a glance (assuming you're not colourblind). The iconography on the tiles is distinct enough that it should still be quick to tell the images apart, though the grasshopper, ant and spider have similar enough body shapes that they may need a second look. 0:50 - Clarification: A player cannot move any of his pieces unless the Queen Bee has already been placed in the Hive; which must be placed in any of his/her first four turns.

Totally agree on this one (as usual!). More reasons to buy: Rules explanation is fast - you'll be playing within 3 minutes The movement of each piece makes sense for the bug, and so is easy to remember (possible exception is the spider - but it's better than chess in this regard) It's a great intelligent filler if two people have been knocked out of another game, or the other players are on a take-out/beer run! Why buy the pocket version? The main one is lovely, and fits in big pockets ;) X

Good points, all, especially the intuitiveness of the piece movements. And I bought the pocket version because (1) it has the expansions in it, and I really like both of those pieces -- especially the mosquito (2) it's cheaper than the base game, and still has great production quality and (3) all my pants have stupid tiny pockets. :) -Kaja

Hey, another great review! I was hesitating to buy this game because of the bugs, but it looks pretty amazing so I will pick up one really soon. A question tough, the version Hive Carbon looks better in my opinion but I'm afraid it will be more confusing since the pieces are less clearly differentiated. Or is this not a problem? Also, could you please make a review of mage wars, I'm really thinking about buying that game but not totally convinced yet. Thank you and keep up the great reviews!

My wife and I brought this with us on our Route 66 road trip. Great game.

Great abstract game. I got so burned out on Chess, this has completely replaced it for me.

I bought it for Christmas but can not find someone to play it with me. My daughter does not want to try it. I will keep looking. Looks like a lot of fun.

there are more then 2 expansions! i see expansions at discount stors but cant find the base set anywhere!

It seemed like you broke the rule of not moving out of the hive several times (like with the grasshopper). I guess I'm confused about that rule. I'll have to just buy it and try it out!

yup i agree, the theme is a slight turn-off for me but not so much that i didn't buy the game. i would have bought the game far earlier if it had some type of fantasy military theme to it but that's just me.
