Heads up, Hive have just announced they're discontinuing support for their home security products in 3 years time, none of them work with homekit so they will simply stop working after 3 years.

I have a hive thermostat and hive smart plugs, sensors and two hive outdoor cameras. But one of my hive outdoor cameras has failed, since installing it in 2019. I heard from the grapevine British Gas is discontinuing smart security devices, focusing more on smart energy devices instead. I have a question? Is it still worth purchasing from hive the smart thermostat valves for £314 for 8 for my home because they look amazing and will help regulate heat in my home? But I’m just disappointed how hive have let customers down with the malfunction of their hive outdoor cameras, having to go to the extra expense at some point to purchase new outdoor cameras. Thanks.

I started with Hive and the only thing I'm grateful to Hive for is this is how I found out about home assistant. I was pulling my hair out with simple hive actions, like trying to get a simple light automation working. They may have improved it by now but at the time I was trying the following... Sensor detects motion, lights come on, 3 min after motion stops, turn off lights. I assumed that if in the 3 min countdown motion is detected, the countdown will be cancelled and lights won't turn off. Sadly that was not the case. I was cursing this every time... I went to the forums and someone suggested extending the timer to 10 min... 🤦🤦🤦How about 30 min or how about leave the lights on permanently. But then I found someone who had the exact same issue and moved to home assistant. That started my home assistant journey and I never looked back. All my hive decides, lights, sensors are not paired to zigbee2mqtt. The heating is all that's left on the Hive hub but this summer it's going to z2m as well and the Hive hub is going in the bin. I won't go into the detail of my Hive heating issues as they are far too many...

I've been thinking about doing the same! What do you mean by "all my Hive decides, lights, sensors are not paired to zigbee2mqtt"? What's a decide, and do you mean they ARE paired?

Hive base system was fine but the TRVs were horrible for me. Constantly re calibrating and not heating up quick enough. Moved to Tado and much less hassle.

Being from Brighty myself, just wondered if you have had the opportunity to compere the Hive against the Nest alternative? I think the Hive does have a lot of options but lacks in the learning front? Would you recommend this over nest if it wasn't sponsored?

I'm a heating installer and I am constantly removing nest stats and replacing them with hives. Google are having a lot of problems with the nest heat link. They used to send free replacements but now charge if you're out of warranty. Imho the nest looks better but the hive works better. I have the hive mini myself.

I really wish the thermostat itself had a boost button... That would be SO handy. When I'm away and someone is house sitting / looking after my pets they have to ask me to turn it on. I know there's the mode to have the heating turn on until a certain temperature is reached but that could set it off for hours, with the cost of energy being what it is it could end up costing me a fortune.

Hmmm, question if I may.... Can you use the geolocation if you have 2 smart phone users in the home? So if Person A goes out, but Person B is still at home, it keeps the heating on. BUT, if both leave the home, it triggers the "want to turn the heating off" to both users, and either can turn it off?

One of the downsides of Hive... their API is closed, and they always bleat on about "you can use IFTTT"

HomeAssistant has a supported Hive integration, requiring your Hive login and password. I haven't used it but assume it works well enough. Check the HomeAssistant website.

hello mate quick question, I've just had a new boiler fitted came with a hive thermostat and hub, been using the thermostat manually for a couple of weeks ,no problem just fitted the hub shows connected but it wont pair with the thermostat ? any ideas?

Your hive may have been put into standalone mode, by whoever installed it. If you read your little booklet, it will explain how to put it into remote mode.

too late now, i have nest. I never liked the look of the hive because of the ugly dial on the front. no batteries to have to change every so often with nest either. pity my boiler does not work so back to basics with the wood burning stove.

Sorry mate, they are still way overpriced on bulbs, sockets etc (however I do have a dual zone setup from them). Other thing is they are not open with their API, it's use IFTTT or hacking... which breaks every time they do a version upgrade.

Hive should not be in business, terrible company with unacceptable business practices. Once you register your hive hub it's essentially e-waste as there is no way to re-register it for someone else to use, so if you decide to change away from hive you just have to chuck it out. Should be illegal

Excellent video. I’ve just recently had a new boiler and the hive thermostat. However, it’s really pissing me off as the heating keeps switching itself on. I’ve reset the hub, the receiver and the thermostat yet the heating keeps switching back on! The new boiler doesn’t help as the settings are so confusing, it’s a Valliant EcoFit Plus. The only way to switch the thermostat off is put it in holiday mode! I was lost without heating, but I’m sure this thing is not working as intended.

Yes, it was a faulty boiler installation by British Gas. They came back and corrected but I was left with a hefty gas bill for that month. Thanks for asking.
