Not fond of the integrated battery idea, makes adding range a bigger challenge than nessasary.

Hey Johnny, Great review on this particular fatbike. I must say that the turn signals, rear rack and fenders are great features. They should be standard on all ebikes (the turn signals and rear rack). However I feel like 48V batteries are soo yesterday! 52V batteries should be standard and obviously (to cut cost I'm sure) they shipped it with a lower voltage battery. Another thing is the woefully underpowered 500W motor. The controller I'm sure is also low in amperage and join in with the battery and motor to make up a bike that can't evn make it up the JohnnyNerdout hill climb. To each his own but for me the more features added standard on a newly shipped ebike means less costly and time consuming (waiting) upgrades in the future. But great review and always great to see you online doing your thing with these different builds.

Hey there Johnny, first of all let me say thanks for being one of a very few "Real Deal" People on KZfaq. I'm a 59 year old Navy Vet who built my now 3 year old Bafang 500w rear hub drive that I installed on a 2017 Fuji Nevada and after watching your channel, I have learned more about mid drive systems, that I just ordered a 750w bbs02for my bike and am building my sister one too with my old kit, but now I want to upgrade to a 52v for the bbs02,and keep the 48v for my sister's bike. See what you have created? Thanks for being my mentor.

Hey bud thay do make kits for the 6v out and splitter for one the brake wires for signal for break and has little box etc for turn signals etc I was looking into coming up with something my self bc that’s more my thing but when researching parts come to find out it’s already been done (damn it ) I’ve seen from 30-50 mostly eBay but even found one at Walmart but no luck at Amazon or I would put an like to try to atleast get kick back lol a whole ten cents per bagillion sold something like that but ya
@JohnnyNerdOut

I keep trying them out with varying degree of disappointment. Either the voltages are wrong or some other dumb reason. As soon as I find a good solution I’ll post it. You should still design and make a kit though.

Nice review Johnny! I wonder why the throttle power is weaker than the pedal assist my hubs throttle is 30% more efficient than pedal assist but I daresay it's because mines a kit build cheers Dude

Most states have adopted a 3 class system like california. Class 1 - 20mph limit & no throttle. Class 2 - 20mph limit for both PAS & throttle. Class 3 - 20mph limit on throttle & 28mph limit on PAS. It's just bureaucratic legal BS (IMO). Many e-bikes ship this way but can be hacked to avoid the limits.

Don't forget to mention that a bike that heavy and with 4" tires will require an adequate rack for transport with most vehicles. Good racks able to handle a heavy fatbike aren't cheap. And it's not an easy bike to heft into a rack, even if you have fair upper body strength. Transport is a factor since few folks actually live next to the river for that hypothetical fishing ride.

This is definitely different for you. Not different from Juiced, Rad, Himiway, Magicycle or any other entry level fat e-bike but not what I expect on your channel;) Nothing wrong with the bike, it is abundantly adequate. For around the same money I'd go DIY with a steel fat bike and a BBSHD & live without some of the nice perks. Turn signals are cool, but not cool enough to put up with a hub motor, & can be done DIY. I think you missed city commuter as a potential use for this bike. Most cities are flat enough. It should be comfortable and steady over potholes, protect you from splashing and have the cargo capacity to carry whatever you take to work. FYI you listed the bike as 48v 50W & I'd bet there should be another zero in that wattage;)
@MHH3180
@MHH3180 2 жыл бұрын
As a commuter it would be a bit slow handling and heavy. I mean, sure any bike can be used for anything, but not all bikes are ideal. Jumping in and out of traffic, over curbs for parking and at intersections it would be a lot more work to handle and the squirm you get from fat tires would make it particularly bad in evasive maneuvers and hard to recover if you do get into trouble.
@michaelsprinzeles4022
@michaelsprinzeles4022 2 жыл бұрын
@@MHH3180 Ideal? LOL. No hub motor is ideal for an e-bike. I just thought that between riding off road or on I'd prefer this bike on a flatter paved road where the hub motor is not as big of a flaw. You're right about road noise & sudden maneuvers but fat tires laugh at curbs;)

Hmmm, as far as range, between this bike and the Himiway, what would be your opinion? Also, which one do you like better in general?

They are almost identical. I might give the slight edge to the hjm due to it have a little more adjustability via the display and a lower price 👍

The problem with bicycle turn signals is that they are not legal. To be legal they have to be brighter than our systems can generate without direct power from the battery. Even if they were, they would still have to be approved by the Federal gov.'t. The first time someone has a crash using these and not hand signals, the motorist will get off. This, in theory, could get the builder sued, so I bet there is advice on there somewhere saying they are to be used in addition to hand signals.

The bike that you have has a taller seat post tube and the top tube tube joins the seat tube at a lower position than the bikes shown on their website. Looks to be about a 4 inch difference! No mention on website of different sizes. Could be a deal breaker!
