The pro leagues in Europe are: France: Top 14 (top division, 14 teams) and Pro D2 (second division, 16 teams). The Top 14 is the stongest and most commercially successful league in Europe, and the Pro D2 is also commercially very healthy. France has a very effective pyramid system with the Championnat Nationale below the Pro D2, and promotion and relegation. Unfortunately, it's hard to follow outside of France. England: Premiership (top division, 10 teams) and Championship (2nd division, 12 teams). The Premiership has had a couple of difficult seasons financially, with three teams going out of business. The Championship is semi-professional. There used to be promotion and relegation between them, but this has not happened for some years because the Premiership has standards for things like stadium capacity which recent Championship winners have not met. United Rugby Championship (formerly Pro14, formerly Pro12, formerly Celtic League) - 16 teams, 4 from Ireland, 4 from Wales, 4 from South Africa, 2 from Scotland, 2 from Italy. Closed league, no promotion or relegation. The top teams from the Top14, the URC and the Premiership play in the Champions Cup, the rest play in the Challenge Cup. Teams that have won the Champions Cup most often are Toulouse (France, 6 wins), Leinster (Ireland, 4 wins), Saracens (England, 3 wins) and Toulon (France, 3 wins), which should give you a rough idea of the relative strength of the leagues.

Most of the kicks are from tournaments that changed their names due to more teams or other countries joining that tournament. For example the Pro 14 is now the URC because South Africa joined. South African teams used to be in Super Rugby. The D2 is the second league in France after the Top 14. Japan used to have a super rugby team but they only had a couple of seasons contract. Argentina also had a team in Super Rugby but had the same outcome. The Champions Cup is like the Superbowl it's the Cup al the best teams play against eachother from all different tournaments except Super Rugby and Japan League. But that's all about to change because the Rugby Club World Cup is in the making then all clubs from around the world will compete every 4 years for a World Title.

Hehe I was at that game between South Africa and Wales here at Loftus in SA. Elton Jantjies had a torrid day and the crowd booed him off the field. We were lucky to win that game.
